what is the policy on minors on overstay ?
in the past (and present maybee)  there was no fine or punishment for a minor on overstay ..
i know quite a few farangs over here who have farnang children here .. and while the parents have to jump thre all the visa loops to make sure they themsleves are legal with there visas it has been possible to cut costs by not doing the same for minors . i.e. many farang children could be on huge overstays alrady
Yes, it is true minors overstay is not enforced. I believe to the age of 12, i might be wrong on the age, but i'm positive on the overstay. My friend lived here for 5 years with his children he obeyed the laws and did not worry about his children visa's i guess he could have actually gotten them an Ed visa as they were going to private school. When he left his children were 5 years over no issues whatsoever.

In Topic: Crackdown On Land Owned By Foreign Residents

As a rule, I try to keep out of politics in my host country of 20 years, but here is an issue that requires action.

I believe it is time for us Thaivisa readers/contributors to lobby political representatives in our various homelands for a cause about which many of us feel passionate.

The cause is reciprocal rights for property ownership. If a Thai may own property, to a reasonable extent, in our homeland, then we expect the same right in Thailand.

Write to your political representatives in your various homelands to address this huge injustice. Ambassadors, Bundestag delegates, MP's, etc, but really.... this is quite unacceptable.

I am not talking about the right  to buy 1000 rai of prime farmland, but at least the right to own a personal residential property in one's own name, especially if a Thai family is involved

I am quite certain that this cause will gain traction if enough TV readers spend 20 minutes doing what NEEDS to be done.
So you think the Thai's are going to bow down if a foreign govt ask them to rework the rules. Don't think so. Don't you know by now that Thai's don't like foreigners telling them what to do? After 20 years you should know better. I have been here a little more than 1/2 that time and know Thai's wont listen to foreigners. Don't worry about this, it's comes up every few years or so, they might act on one or two properties and then all will go quite again. As long as you don't own i would say 50 or 100+ rai i wouldn't worry, if you did everything the correct and legal way then you have nothing to worry about.

In Topic: Applying For A Work Permit

2012-03-12 12:33:19

Dont know who told you this, it is true you can work on a non-O, but you must also have a work permit to do any type of work, does not matter if you are getting paid or not. Also, wanting to work in construction is prohibited work.
it does not matter what your wife can or cant not do in the UK, this is Thailand with different rules. Ex-pats are prohibited from doing many types of jobs. Farming, construction work are on the list. For teaching you can do this, but there must be a company that can hire you and to provide the work permit. As stated the company need to have registered capital of minimum 2 million baht and have 4 Thai employees. I don't know where mjnaus got the info on only needing 2 never heard of this. i have owned and operated two companies here in Thailand and have always had to have minimum 4 employees. Yes, they will let you slide for a little while on the employees when first starting, but not to the extent of 2 years, 6 months but don't expect that to be any longer.
Please do your home work on this and check with ministry of labor about the rules for work permit, don't take what I'm telling you and what anyone else tells you to be the 100% truth. The consequences for working without a work permit is fines and jail time and possible deportation. your wife and other Thai's may tell you this is their country they know what is needed, again don't listen and find out for yourself, many Thais believe they know when they don't. Just trying to give you helpful advise.

I do like the idea of the computer shop they always look busy, but there are regulations on this to as for the hours being open and students etc. So again please make sure you know everything yourself and don't rely on others to provide the information. The Thai saying " mai pen rai" does not work when the govt is looking to crack down on things. Be careful with the farming, you get someone upset with you and they report you are doing farming work does not matter if it's in your wife's name or not, you will have problems.

Good Luck to you!!!

And here we have a man, being fed wisdom by the spoon!

"A man with so many questions and so few answers.
Why do they not consider themselves prostitutes? Because they have the right of refusal, and to take those and how many they are willing to accept.
why keep it from their families? Because they want to move home sometime, and in Thailand (as elsewhere) a man who has many partners is a butterfly or a stud, whereas a woman is a slut or whore. Do you know what a rethoric question is?
Why don't you know one bar-girl not drunk or stoned nightly? The class of bar you frequent. Some in Patpong! In EVERY bar I frequent drugs are banned. And prostitution is illegal in Thailand! Young people with money in a bar, being offered free drinks - you expect abstinence? Does it happen in the village?
Some girls wear swimsuits, but they are expensive. None fancy sunburn or a tan.THAT is your explanation? Really?
Are you that old that you dislike shagging 4 times a night, or are you suggesting 4 customers @ B500 up? The decision is HERS.Is it? With an abusive bf/pimp at home, you gives you a nice round of slaps, if you don't come home with enough?!
Premature aging from burning the candle at both ends. My mum warned me about that. "

I see: the decission is hers, it is easy money, they are just greedy and lazy!
Stereotypes are a great thing, aren't they!?

Actually i find your stereotypes rather jaded. Nearly all the bar-girls I know live in bar-supplied accommodation, nobody slaps them or forces them to take customers. I don't consider them to be greedy or lazy, most exercise daily to remain trim, none drink to excess regularly, and they would be told to move on quite rapidly if they started using drugs.
They also work hard at improving their English, have hopes and aspirations just like everybody else.

Ok,ok...are you talking about GoGo's or ESCORTS?
"My places" are usually on Patpong, since I live here!
There is a place on Patpong 2, rather famous and (literally) on higher ground.
I know most of the girls there by name and can tell you for sure, that almost all of them are smoking yaa baa regularly.
Another place, not far from there, with rather young girls (majorly officially around 22): none of them sober at the start of their shift.
How do I know? I TALK TO THEM!
I am not saying that every hooker in Thailand is like that.
But I think, one can safely assume, they are not in it for "the fun" of it, but because there is not much choice!
I believe you are wrong on not much choice. Did you hear there is a labor shortage as Burmese workers are not coming back to Thailand. There are many jobs available for these girls to work, however not making the same money and it's their choice to work in the bar as they want or need the kind of income that is provides.  I wouldn't say all the girls are on drugs and drunk. I too have been to patpong and soi cowboy etc and dont see where all the girls are drunk and taking drugs. With your rational you could say all ex-pats are drunks as all the ones I meet in bars are drinking and getting drunk, so this must be the only way they are able to live in Thailand being drunk every night. I have been to many of the "thai" style places and very seldom do i see any of these girls drinking or taking drugs. So it all depends on the girl.   Get out of patpong and explore things more before you start saying a majority as you are only seeing a minor part of Thailand.
