Ah the Debit card Posted Image
Just returned from 3 weeks holiday in Belgium where you can use your ATM card to pay for everything including petrol stations, also has cash functionality called "Proton" where you can charge up to 125 euro to the chip and pay for your bread at the bakery.

Not going to have that functionality any time soon in Thailand  Posted Image

I live 40 clicks East of Udon.
The area is infested with farangs, every village has its lot, I mean they are everywhere, at least 10 in my village (not a small village, but not an amphur neither) a few in EACH nearby village, easily 100 in a 10km radius from my place.

This thread is headed "The rural poor of Thailand"

I live amongst the Rural poor and so I do not agree with much of this article.

+1

Yep, I see families eating khao niauw with leaves from the trees, no money for meat, catch a fish or kill a chicken sometimes
They did have a few baht lately because they (bought?) chicken carcasses, crashed them with a bat and grilled the bones.
Aroy maak maak!

When I first travelled across Thailand by bus I was convinced by experiment that all Thais were well fed: indeed at main bus stops people would enter the bus and sell food, all passengers did buy food, thus all Thais can afford food all day long;
Living in a village I discovered that not all Thais have money (and desire/need) to take a bus somewhere  Posted Image

In Topic: What Language Do You Use With Your Thai Partner?

We adopted a one year young girl in Januari.
I try to speak English most of the time now, dropping Thai.
She will begin to speak any time soon, thus I am curious listening to her.
Once she understands what I am saying and speak English well enough I will start learning her French (at age 4 or 5?)
I hope she will be multilingual by the age of 15: Thai, English, French, German, Dutch.
