In Topic: Finding A Decent House To Rent

You have to drive around the area you like the look of, on a m/c, looking for hand painted sign boards on driveway gates.
It's how the Thais advertise places for rent. You can usualy find a place in a couple of days. Don't forget to ask for a rental price on houses offered for sale if you see one you like.
You also need a Thai speaker with you so that they can phone up and ask the price before the landlord sees you are a foreigner.

Most Thais won't rent at over 10k, as at that price they prefer to buy with a mortgage.
Thats the way to go, Had been searching websites and looking at rental properties for weeks here in bkk, In the end i gave up on them and went out on the MC with a split arse on the back looking for signs and calling the numbers  (must have done 200km)
In the first day i found around 15 houses and viewed them ...then it was just a matter of choice,

Its also a good idea to ask at noodle stalls in the area you would like to stay as most seem to be in the know about whats available even if there is,nt a sign with a number.

can we have an equivalent critique of Brits or Ossies please?

Why would you discuss the Brits or the Ozzies on the Thaivisa?
By the way, the title of the thread is Thai-ness, this is why we talk about Thailand Posted Image

...because the thread seems to have its roots in racial prejudice in general as far as I can see. And also, as I have to keep explaining to certain people, it was a JOKE. see?
Not sure about it being rooted in prejudice, But it makes me realise i stopped trying apply logic to the thais around me and thier thai-ness long ago.

We have been over this topic a hundred times. Get over it. The Thais have no clue what this symbol really means.
They still haven't learned about the meaning of the swastika symbol over all this time?

To them it just means power.
This is a more appropriate symbol for "power":

I,m on a non im B and always write the visa number in and put the arrival card in the page where the visa is,  It happened not one time but now three times that they stamped 30 days and not 3 months...they seem to get pissed off when you point thier mistake out and they have to correct it.

I believe that placing the arrival card in your passport where the visa is does not help. It is difficult to see across the high top of the immigration counter but I did notice that the first thing the officer does is remove the card from the passport.

I would have thought the officer would be grateful that a mistake is pointed out right there and then, as a later correction at the immigration office in town may get recorded in a database and give the officer a black mark on his record if he makes this mistake too often.
All they seem to do is scribble thier initials over the wrongly dated stamp then change the date with the same pen along with an unfriendly glare,

Each time they stamped the wrong date i did notice they were,nt actualy looking at the passport but elsewhere along the immigration lines or having small talk with another officer.
