Below is the penalty, which apparently is the harshest it gets for a first time DUI:
- THB 20'000 bail to get out of jail and come back to court on Monday (was fully refunded)
- THB 8'000 fine (THB 6'000 if caught on a motobike, irrespective of how much you are above the limit)
- 6 months licence suspension (irrespective of how much you are above the limit)
- 3 months of jail on probation for 2 years (irrespective of how much you are above the limit)
- 4 yearly visits to a probation officer (irrespective of how much you are above the limit)
- 12 hours of community service (only for a certain amount of alcohol in the blood, but not sure how much)
I legally work here and there never was any mention of deportation. I have since then renewed my WP and visa with no problem. They give you a fair warning on your first DUI and as long as you don't repeat the same mistake, you will be fine...

If some people are getting offended by this then they really need to learn to accept criticism and the realities of Thailand's tolerance of illegal activity.

How brave and loyal some of these nationalists are when it comes to sticking up for their country and people. Just say good things all the time, and never address the real issues which would actually help this country and these people you love so much. Hypocrisy and ignorance and its very best.

Yes drugs can be harmful,.. but so can cigarettes, alcohol and prescription drugs that the governements of the world push en-mass and with zero conscience or consequence!
As long as "illicit" drugs remain illegal it translates into the fuelling of a multi billion (trillion?) dollar industry for everyone from the cops, lawyers, judges, prison systems, pharmecutical companies,...and the list rolls on.
Enough of this insane lie-ridden BS and the condoning of judicial murder of scapegoats for an insipid hierachy of capitalist and power hungry supremacists that do zero for the genuine advancement of the human population of the world!
Tell the truth,... and the truth is that something stinks in Demark and it ain't just the cheese!

#5320061 Is Thailand Really Cheaper For You ?

When I lived in Casper, Wyoming, snow skiing was cheap and saltwater fishing was expensive so I skied a lot and fished the lakes and streams
When I lived in China, taxis and mass transit were cheap and owning a car was expensive, so I took taxis. In Bangkok, I don't need a car because I can find everything I need fairly close to home. That's not the case in suburbia in Casper or Corpus.
I find some things in Bangkok to be very cheap and others to be very expensive and that figures into what I do and how I live here. Overall, it is possible to live on much less money in Bangkok than in the USA.
But if I choose to live the same lifestyle as "back home", it will cost a lot more because of the high cost of goods that aren't indigenous and are taxed and marked up as luxury goods- though they would certainly not be considered luxury goods in most western countries.
Overall, I spend about as much to live in Thailand as I would in the USA or China, but live a very different lifestyle. Not better, not worse, just different. (And every once in awhile I suck it up and spend a big wad on something I miss from "back home")

Would be better if some politician houses were flooded not the ordinary people who have no power to change it.
Yes, it would be good if the only people who get flooded are people who are allowed to vote here. That is one way to look at it.
EDIT
I am not one to blame the politicians for everything as I think they are a mirror reflection of Thais and their society. So, I blame all of them. They are a (pseud.) Democracy after all.
Politicians and the wealthy seemed to have their properties well protected. We got about 25 cm in our house and caused quite a bit of damage. Luckily most was covered by insurance and the fact I did a lot of repairs myself.
The 25-120M baht vilalge up the road had massive pumps working full steam everyday to keep their houses dry.
I'm not surprised the PT party lost the by-election in Patum Thani (?) I imagine there were a lot of disgruntled voters nauseated by Yingluck's keep BKK (meaning central BKK) at all costs. Another major flood will be bad news politically for them.
Actually, i think you'll find it was the BKK Governor not the PM, but never mind.
Actually, I think you'll find neither one of them were very interested in getting the big bag barrier torn down. That illegal and unconscionable dam turned my village into a lake for 2 months under 2+ meters of water so that those in inner Bangkok could stay dry. On the other side of that structure, waters were only about 50 cm. Doesn't matter which one of them paid for the construction vs. the other one allowing the construction to happen. They are both guilty and are both scum. Both the BMA and the central government need to pay compensation to those of us who were forced to suffer for the "greater good."
We were promised a minuscule 20,000 baht, and to date not a single baht of even that piddling amount has been paid.
But never mind...

Some of us can have sex in thailand without paying for it
Forgot to check if she was hi-so chinese though .that would really make it a good story .......
Ahhhh, so like Radiola, you get free ones ..... but that doesn't change what they are, or their appearance.
(can't imagine any other sort of Thai lady, that sleeps over the first night you meet her)
it shows how little you actually know about thai women to make a statement like that
thai women (esp in bangkok ) are as sexually liberated as their equivalents in nearly any other country
its just in their culture to be discrete and not broadcast about it
dont blame me because you need to visit the atm every time you feel horny
its not like that for many guys in thailand .....

"Easy solution"? Not if you're living on the bright side. I couldn't think of anything worse than sitting in traffic jams all day long and stressing out trying to find places to park. A car can turn a 10 minute ride into a 30 or 40 minute nightmare on Beach Road, 2nd Road, 3r Road, Klang, Nua and Tai.... no thank you.
BTW, I seldom get pulled over and it's only very occasionally when they're doing rego/insurance checks. Maybe once or twice a year at the very most and I'm putting in about 6000km a year primarily in the tourist zone. I think I've now gone way over a year since I was last pulled over. It's not a problem in need of a solution. If you've got your licence, rego and insurance handy you're off in a couple of minutes.
