#4961540 Visit To Myanmar At New Year

Posted dutchguest on 2012-01-07 12:51:48

I just saw this video

about Burma made by the CIA in the time of the cold war against communism. It gives a nice impression of Burma in the past.

At the moment it seems like Burma is opening up a little more. Although I doubt the motives of the military government -may be they have become a bit afraid because of what they see happening in the middle east- it might be a step in the direction of more freedom and democracy.

#5275251 I Still Haven’T Found - Can You Help Me With What I Am Looking For?

Posted David48 on 2012-05-05 12:36:55

I really want to post here ... I really do.

Previously I have looked at the many (technically brilliant) photos posted here and have been entranced by their beauty, the technical MasterPiece that is being presented.

Sometimes however, I feel that it becomes more like 'MasterChief' ... creating recipes that are far removed from the hustle and bustle of normal life.

I still haven't found a section here that screams David ... here is where you and your happy snaps belong.  You will find comfort in posting without the imposing critical analysis of 'Evaluate my photos'

Maybe this space doesn't (yet) exist.

Previously I used to be a 'technical' photographer with my OM-2 then later and OM-10 ... but now my world is filled, not with beautiful photos ... but beautiful feelings.

If this Forum remains in the classical ballet mindset, I may never be given an entry ticket ... but maybe, if those who want to expand the joy and love of photography further in the masses, might see fit to loosen that constriction ...

Remember ... that photo captures a moment in time that is personal to you and ... with the right empathy becomes personal to others who share your joy.

Is this a technically masterful photo ... NO ... does it display warmth and a touch of intimacy ... I hope so.

#5182805 Day Rides, Chiang Rai Bikers

Posted skybluestu on 2012-04-01 15:32:22

Despite the smoke and rain forecast there was quite a good turnout with over 20 bikes today. Everyone decided to take the same route to Phayao via Pa Daet then meet up for lunch by the lake. The Chiang Mai boys then made their way back on the lovely 120 while most others took the quick way home on the 1. I'm sure they'll be some more pics later but here are a few I took. Very pleasant ride with pleasant people, thanks all!

#5162553 Family Of Man In Skytrain Scuffle Threatened

Posted theblether on 2012-03-25 08:10:13

This guy has offered up a half hearted apology. He caused the problem, end of story.
If he has a further complaint about being attacked and beaten twice, fair comment, except....

He caused the problem in the first place. No excuses, it's down to him for non-compliance.

When i read about this I think of what would have happened in Canada, if he didnot comply with a quards request. Here is what I think would have happened especially if he tried to force his way through with the balloons. He would have probably been tasered. Then balloons and him taken to local police station and his wife and child would have had to arrange bail. He would have had to go to court and probably have a criminal record at the end of it all. He and his family should apologize to the quard, the BTS and pay the quard for lost wages , pain and suffering.
A public apology would help alot.

New York and he probably would have been shot...

Once again,

Here is the danger of losing your temper in Thailand.

Now this family is being intimidated. All because this man created a confrontation. It's stupidity on his part. Who, with any knowledge of Thailand, would seriously consider causing a confrontation over a bunch of balloons?

Yes the assault was over the top, but let it be a lesson to everybody.

Don't fight in Thailand, don't be aggressive in Thailand, don't look for confrontation.

You will pay a price like you cannot believe, just as this guy has done.

#5109305 Photo Of Military Grave...Blurred...How To Fix?

Posted BangkokImages on 2012-03-05 11:17:08

1.  You already can read the inscriptions.  It's not easy to read or a nice picture, but you can make out the information.

2.  There are software utilities out there such as Focus Magic which can, to a certain extent, correct for motion blur, and to a much more limited degree correct for out of focus, but I think you're asking a lot for them to be free and someone to do your testing for you..Posted Image    Maybe you could try some of these utilties under their 30 day free trials. #5073499 Chiang Rai Airport Has The Capacity To Cope With Rush: Asean Economic Community

Posted JAG on 2012-02-21 04:33:14

I've seen a Monarch Airlines (UK) Jet there a couple of years ago, apparently on some sort of charter flight.

As for the largest aircraft it can take, i flew out in a Boeing 747 a few years ago. The One to  Go aircraft inbound from Bangkok was delayed by several hours. then, in pouring rain there was what can only be described as an amazing noise and an ancient Orient Thai B747 landed. It just managed to stop before the end of the runway! Loaded up and we were off to Bangkok. Only half the interior lights worked, very tatty interior, I dont think any of the Flight Attendants had been aboard a jumbo before, and it was freezing cold. When we parked up at Don Mueang we were next to one of their MD82s, it looked like they were busy lifting an engine into place, in the pouring rain, using a fork lift truck and a pallet! Sort of went off One to Go after that.

And it is also unbelievable that, in 2012, someones sexuality is compared with problems such as prostitution and child-trafficking! The below is taken from a blog by missionaries here in CR as to why they are needed here.

'Prostitution, child trafficking, and homosexuality also continue to affect this developing nation.'

#5033014 Wiang Inn Buffet Lunch

Posted pomchop on 2012-02-06 08:50:34

Went to the Wiang Inn for buffet lunch on sunday.  Nice spread with generally good quality food and service.
Not five star dining but for 150 baht it is a very good value.  Maybe not as many choices as rim kok but overall seemed to be signficantly better food taste/quality.

Several tour groups arrived around 12;30 so maybe better to get there a bit early.  As far as i know the buffet is same every day.

My two baht worth.
