Manufactured outrage to create stories and hype and website traffic. A handful of people made comments on twitter, oh noes!  99% of Thais don't give a $%#@ what she said.  No one is boycotting.  No one is protesting her like they did in other countries.  No one cares.  The only thing most Thais would think is that it is very strange for a rich celebrity to want to buy a fake watch, as that is something for poor people.  Most Thais wouldn't understand how it could be a novelty item for a rich foreigner.

Here come the Irish, again.

http://www.telegraph...nd-bailout.html

Quote

As households struggle to pay their mortgages, the country’s rescued banks may need €4bn (£3.2bn) more to cover losses on loans than was assumed in stress tests last year, said analysts at Deutsche Bank.

That would hit the finances of the Irish government, which has already pumped about €63bn into its banking sector in the last three years.

“A new, even modest, increase in [banks’] capital requirements could deter sovereign investor participation and tip the balance in favour of the sovereign requiring a second loan program,” said the Deutsche team.

I am fed up with this shit.
The Irish have paid the dam  banks enough, the whole friggin WORLD has paid the dam_n banks enough.

Quote

“A new, even modest, increase in [banks’] capital requirements could deter sovereign investor participation and tip the balance in favour of the sovereign requiring a second loan program,”

What a sentence.

How nice, "even modest", "could deter", "investor participation", "tip the balance".

Note this is coming from the bankers. The "Deutsche team".

Well, fuc_k 'em.

The fate of the world's population should not be decided by the bankers collecting on their greed.

Unfortunately today words have lost their meaning.

I'll take this one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greed

"Greed is the inordinate desire to possess wealth, goods, or objects of abstract value with the intention to keep it for one's self, far beyond the dictates of basic survival and comfort. It is applied to a markedly high desire for and pursuit of wealth, status, and power."

These bastards are wholly uninterested in the life of Joe Worker, they are only interested in how far they can put him into debt and penury. And it doesn't even matter if the debt can't be paid on the personal level, oh no, they will kill off the sovereign state that Joe lives in and then go higher, and kill off the next level.

We simply can't have the bankers suffering a loss, now, can we?

Just line them up against the wall. I'll deal with the issue.

It's a god-send for educators.

Does anybody remember those halcyon days when people didn't know what you were doing 24 hours a day and couldn't get hold of you at a press of a button?

I'm not a luddite but do not expect me to tell you what I am doing every hour of the day, I'm not that important and your life will continue unaffected (I'll save it for an email or a phone call), especially in the morning before my first cup of coffee.

What comes over these people that suggests what they are doing or their music tastes or their popularity is important enough to inform other people continually.

OK I am just jealous that I didn't think of it and that twa* is selling the idea for millions today but really, people, get over it.

When your next boss asks you why you thought posting videos of your adventures in Pattaya would help your prospects of a position in their company the chickens will have come home to roost.

Which leads me on to my next anti FB rant - Why DO bosses think they have the right to peruse your "private life" even if you have been a dic*head to put it on FB in the first place.

And don't get me started on what any government would like to do with that info.........

Rant Over, I'm here all week.

A few here need to get over it, there are nofreeholies you pay one way are the other. Good on the girls who have the intelligents, charm, and originality to bring in a few pounds to support the family less for me to kick in.

Not smart.

And such a sorry state of affairs when what should be loving relationships transpires into purely an act of make believe for financial gain.

The same applies to the guys who sole ambitions become to bed the girl, again giving the semblance that they are genuinely interested in the relationship but in actuality is looking for some freebies with no strings attached and couldn’t give a rat’s behind regarding the feelings of the girl and the emotional traumas this may cause to them. They could be described as emotional rapists, exploiting a girl’s feelings and affections for a guy.

The problem is that many are just seeking something for nothing, cheapskates that have no decency or respect for anyone, who use bluff and deception without any regard that within these relationships someone is going to get hurt, quite often with dire consequences. This pertains to both the guys and the gals. No wonder there is so much crap going on between people with these sorts of attitudes.

The problems are that the selfish and in some cases criminal actions of the Jack the Lads, fly by night boys and the femme fatale among us makes it extremely difficult to put trust into any relationships and really does spoil things for those seeking genuine partners and a soul mate. Plus that’s called; using people. Those who have mastered the art of bluff, lying and deception so flawlessly, without a bat of an eyelid or any feelings of remorse are of dubious character and should never be trusted, whether is business, as friends or even as an addition to a social circle and should be well avoided for obvious reasons.

There can't be many men that have not given money to or been scammed by a woman or women in their own country.  Who ever heard of having a woman who didn't want your money, if you allowed them to get their hands on it?

When I first started surfing the 'dating' sites some years ago (I was 50's) I had women from all over Asia who wanted to be my 'friend' very quickly.  I started playing the field with Filipino, Thai, Chinese etc etc and within a fairly short time the majority of Thai girls were asking for money. I say the majority because there were a few that didn't but they were not from Issan or related to poor families anywhere in the country. They were the ones that were a bit older (30's up)  and had decent jobs, and their priorities were not particularly geared to fast bucks. They already had their own computers and had taught themselves some English. The poor ones were using Internet Cafe's.  The range of money the girls asked for was between a few hundred Baht and 500,000 Baht to buy a new car.  I can say that none of the Chinese girls I had relationships with, and there were a good few trips to China, never once asked me for money. They always said they would like a responsible man that would love them and have a long term stable relationship. I would point out that none of these girls were from poor families either and I think this is the key with the large numbers of Thai girls who are on the make. It's to do with the amount of poor families that exist in Thailand where all the pressure is put on the young girls to provide for the family.  It may be true that they think we Farang are all stupid, and indeed some really are, but the main driving force is family pressure and they will do anything to relieve that constant burden.
I agree with most of you wrote, but I would add that not only the poverty that puts the pressure on these ladies but their family and there is a large proportion whom see the easy money and than form a lifestyle around these activities. Until they don`t find the real big fish they never stop doing it even if their finances seem to be all right.

#5312467 Deceived Thai Women Jailed In Hong Kong As Nigerian Drug Cartel Couriers

Don't call  the girls stupid.  They are not stupid, they just are not educated which is typical for a vast majority of the Thai population.  The Thai education system is lacking. They are also very naive because they lack the eduction required to make the right choice.  People who call them stupid instead of recognizing it's an education problem are the ones that are stupid.

Lack of an education is a direct cause of stupidity. How you choose to form your own separate definition of stupidity is up to you, but it's incorrect.

Irrespective, the last time I checked, Thailand doesn't have "How to Spot a Nigerian Confidence Trickster and Not Be Duped Into Working As a International Drugs Mule" as part of its national syllabus in schools. I do not understand what the archaic teaching methods, massive class sizes and endless repetition of "Gor Gai, Kor Kai, Khor Khuat" will do exactly to reduce the number of Thai people arriving in Hong Kong fully-laden with drugs, but I'm sure you're going to enlighten me.

I would say that there's very little excuses to be heard in the modern age of Thai TV, where 3,5,7,11 reveal these scams and make all of Thai society across all understanding demographics aware of the harsh sentences, nefarious characters, ingenious traps and massive life pitfalls that are to be had with getting involved with drugs at home and abroad. Thailand also now has a real love affair with TV shows like "Jing Pan Jor" which go onto the streets and show all manner of illegal activities being undertaken by all nationalities.

Then there's their peers and friends. So no Thai kids talk about criminal activity and more specifically drugs and how they're delivered to countries worldwide? I'm sorry but you'd have to be extremely naive and have lived a ridiculously sheltered life to not be aware that turning up in China, with a suitcase you haven't packed, that you allegedly haven't even checked and alone, might be a wrong thing to be doing.

One or two of those 50+ women currently incarcerated in HK, I can believe were totally unaware, but I'd have to say the majority very much have themselves to blame, fully knew what the deal was and were doing it for financial gain. For those of you that have touted the promise of marriage to a West African man for a Thai woman as a big enough incentive to disregard all the warning signs of something very bad going down are living in cloud cuckoo land. Thai women (extreme desperation notwithstanding) simply do not view West Africans as healthy marriage prospects and definitely not for anyone under the age of 20. I know, I've asked. The reaction I got was laughter. I am not trying to disparage any race or nationality here, I am making a point.

A Thai government school education is not going to help you with any of this.

If you are Thai woman, stupid, have lived a massively sheltered life away from any media outlet and friends, believe anything that is said to you by anyone from anywhere, then it's very sad and a sorry state of affairs, but you're going to have to be the statistic. A very tiny statistic, I might hasten to add.

If you're a Thai woman who should know better, is blinded by greed, has "selective" common sense and hearing and are willing to get involved with importing narcotics into Asian countries - Darwin has a plan for you.

Lastly, I find it incredulous that the Thai Government is asking for clemency/leniency in the cases where death sentences have been or could be handed down, given that if the same Thai individual was caught doing the same thing on Thai soil at one of its entry points, the likelihood of death or a 50+ year sentence would be very high. I also find it very interesting that there is never any talk of prisoner exchange programs between Thailand and its Asian neighours. Is that perhaps because China and other Asian powerhouses know that after being repatriated, it's extremely likely the Thai national will just be set free upon arrival? I've heard some hypocritical things in my week, but this is probably the most impressive so far. I have no doubt it will be bettered by week's end.

The lunatics really are running the asylum.

Scenario...Government Minister goes to a supermarket or fresh market complete with entourage of security, personal assistants, sycophants and 20 journalists and a TV crew. Minister says to rather overwhelmed old lady at the market stall "I want a bag of apples and some cabbage and some rice please", "How much will that be", "Oh no problem says the old lady, it's free to you, no charge" Ministers all go back to Yingluck and say 'the people have never had it so good, why are they complaining, the market traders are giving the food away for free'. Result,,,she tells us all again that we are imagining the rising costs.

#5263335 Are The Russians Getting A Free Ride.....

Posted theblether on 2012-04-30 20:14:24

I remember KerryK saying on a topic a few months ago that if a Thai policeman would have stopped him in the street and asked him for his ID when he was here 40 years ago he would have laughed in his face. Simply put at that time Thais deferred to foreigners.

Over the years they have grown in confidence and maybe realized that they could ripp the p*ss out of the farangs a bit.

I reckon the Russians are currently living in a bubble because the Thais and Thai police can't get their heads round who they are dealing with. It won't take them long to suss them out then you will find the Russians being subjected to the same level of scrutiny as the rest.

With one proviso........there is a level of organized crime above and beyond the norm with the Russian community. It is one community that would have no compunction in taking on the Thais head to head in the assassination and violence stakes.

There have been some horrific stories coming out of Pattaya of Russian girls being found dead on the beach, I have some friends just returned from Moscow and they were disturbed at the level of intimidation and gangsterism in the country.  These friends of mine, one in particular, are no slouches. This particular friend was over in Moscow to provide protection to a legitimate businessman. he came back and said that there was no half way ground with the Russians, if it's on, it's all in.

For all the pretendy gangsters that we meet in the bars of Thailand, these guys are the real deal. Apparently there are even Russians getting involved in the jet ski scams. You can kind of guess that if they can wedge themselves into that most criminal of enterprises it's either because the Thais fear them, or they are buying their way in. I think it's a bit of both.

Now the pity is that we end up thinking that every Russian is a gangster. Not so, many are highly defensive because they are used to being treated with suspicion by we Westerners. They expect us to be abusive and unfriendly towards them. Their first reaction when you talk to them is to go defensive, and claim they don't talk English in many cases. Try a different tack with them, the next time your at a pool or a bar with Russians around, open a bottle of vodka and whisky and invite them to drink it with you. Show them a spoonful of sugar and you will get sack loads in return.

Don't fear Russians, most of them are just regular people on the holiday of a lifetime, show them a bit of kindness and consideration and you will be amazed at how hospitable they are. Remember, they "fear" us as much as we "fear" them. I would rather befiriend them than fear them. We're going to need them to repel the Chinese when they attack us Posted Image

ps. Old soldier story coming up, I was on Operation Lionheart in 1984, known as a REFORGER exercise to the US forces. It was the biggest mass movement of NATO troops into Germany since WW2. I think 160,000 troops flew in in 5 days.

Anyway, theblether was on guard duty at a River near Hannover, I was in the Royal Engineers, and we had just built a Bailey Bridge. We were told to expect an inspection visit from the Russian forces, ( they were allowed to inspect to prevent scheduled war games from becoming full scale attacks ) and at that point a helicopter showed up and off stepped about a dozen Red Army generals. They looked like the "evil men" from central casting.

My troop was understrength and I was in charge of the Carl Gustav anti tank weapon and the large bore machine gun ( can't remember the name ) as well as my personal SLR.  At that time I stood 6 foot 2 tall and I was built like a tank, hence why I had the heavy machinery. Laughter ensued from the Russian Generals and the British Brigadier came over to see me, which was a pain in the ass as my hands were full and I didn't know whether to stand to, stay where I was, whatever ( ex-soldiers know you don't salute officers when you are on exercise in case you identify them to the enemy ), anyway the Brigadier told me to stand easy and explained the laughter from the Russians was them looking at me and one of them said " Eff me, I'm not fighting this mob, look at the size of that guy ".

Claim to fame, Yorkshire Television filmed the whole encounter and had a final scene with the camera sweeping round me and the commentator saying " I think we're safe with soldiers like this to protect us ".

theblether was proud of himself.

Just sayin'. Posted Image

Everyone can discuss at leisure the means of getting out of a marriage fast solely on the only grounds that the husband has a need to get back "to the bar scene".

Marriage values are down to one single thing : sex, which women are the providers and nothing else if you read Chops.

Everyone is very comfortable with this, as if it was a given fact:  Chops is encouraged to trample wedding vows and gets help on how to escape his responsibilities.

I read this as him needing to get out from an unhappy marriage regardless of where he escaped to - the desire to get back to the p2p scene is just the motivational gold at the end of the rainbow, not the motivation for ending the relationship.

If the woman is treating her husband so badly it's very likely she's trying to get him to leave so she can play the victim, not have to lose face with neighbors and family who will condemn her for letting her big fish get away. She most likely has her next sponsor all lined up, or figures she's milked him for as much as it's worth sticking around for and possibly wants to get back to her real (Thai) husband who she's been supporting all along anyway.

"Trample wedding vows" wtf? I don't know anyone even back home other than fundamentalist religious types that take that "romantic love" monogamy til-death-do-us-part BS seriously, and it certainly doesn't play out that way in reality, IMO just a heinous myth perpetuated by the media.

Most relationships here are explicitly transactional, specified services rendered in exchange for money. And yes of course there's nothing wrong with this "morally", adults deciding with open eyes how to live their lives as they see fit, who are you to condemn?

Some relationships starting out that way end up becoming genuine love relationships that last a long time, but the vast majority don't.

And of course some start out on the western traditional model of romantic love, and even promise monogamy and til-death-do-us-part. That's fine too and maybe you'd be more right to condemn them if it ends badly, but it's always unfortunate when a relationship goes wrong but IMO our role here should be to help give practical advice, not impose our personal morality judgements on others.
