This prompted Prathin to scold him for causing a disturbance.

Likely there's more to this story than reported. Posted Image

or it could be as reported, an off duty police man scolds some retard for wheel spinning round a car park at 3am and the retard pulls out a gun and shoots him. Why do so many people on this forum always think there is more to the story.

Why don't you give us your version of what you think happened?

Both Korea and Taiwan have these bullet trains that are relatively new and Japan has had theirs for a long time.  Why not consult with them on how to do it right.

because the Thai (government, industry, trade) have their blood, heart, and money lines intermingled with the Chinese, not with Korea or Japan

And Japanese building railways in Thailand has never been popular.

#5301517 Police Arrest Three Foreigners For Bt30mn Jewelry Heist In Phuket

When this story first broke I read a great number posters jumping to conclusions based on nothing that this was an insurance scam. Where are all those posters now. It is a sad statement how ridiculous and embarrassing the farangs on this forum really are.

#5252966 Why Is It So Difficult To Find A Good Friend In Thailand

As for speaking Thai, that really does not improve your situation IMHO. You simply have zero in common and trying to have a discussion proves to be challenging and actually adds frustration.

Tish and piffle.

Talk about football, family, food and women and you're talking all night with your average Thai bloke.

The geezer has said he's not short of a few bob so why not spring for a few ales for the lads? A few hundred baht isn't going to cripple him and most Thais, even lowly paid ones, have enough pride to at least buy a few back your way.

Almost all of the above posts are somewhat cynical ...........but unfortunately real.

As for finding 20,000 workers , yeah right good luck thats really funny.

Just let me know when the tenders come up for safety boots.........sum num nah

"She'll be right mate "  the Thais will pick up pretty quickly , thats for certain .

Anyway when they are informed that you cant smoke weed and drink Lao Kow on the job , that Hammocks are not supplied , no one does sticky rice , and 8 hours a day straight , sorry not in my lifetime.

And you base this on your vast experience in the Industrial Construction business in Thailand?   In fact most of the post here, as said by others, are racist stereotypes that shows more about the members and who they associate with than their actual knowledge of Thai construction.

A few facts, There are currently 100,000’s of skilled Thai tradesmen and Engineers working on major refineries, petro-chemical, offshore fabrication, and industrial building construction on the Eastern Seaboard. These workers over the past 30 years have built literally hundreds of world class plants, facilities, and buildings.

The reason that today, there are far more Pilipino workers overseas than Thai is not about their ability, but the fact that there has been so much work in Thailand there is little reason for skilled Thai person to work overseas.  In 1990’s you were more likely to have Thai workers on an overseas project than Pilipino, but as Thailand went through a long construction boom, their numbers dwindled considerably.

I should also note that the state of the overseas labor recruiting business in Thailand is, in the most part, disgraceful (but then it is in the Philippines as well). In the Philippines, we have setup our own recruiting business and refuse to deal with the myriad of unethical agents that flourish there. I believe that is one reason many Thais construction workers do not try to work overseas, they can work here and do not have to deal with these low life scum that are only intent on stealing from the workers they recruit.

Australia, and particularly Queensland, has huge labor shortage right now, and it is going to get worse over the next 2 years.  The Australians and even the unions (reluctantly) realize this and they continue to make it easier to import labor, both tradesmen and professionals.

I do agree that it will be difficult to recruit 20,000 Thai workers to go Australia, but that has nothing to do with their ability or skills, it is because for a skilled Thai worker, they do not have to work overseas to make very good money.

Our company is already setting up programs to try and recruit Thai tradesmen already working for us here in Thailand to work on our projects in Queensland.  As the craft manpower estimates for just our 8 or so Queensland and Western Australia projects is close to 100,000 and Australians cannot fill even 50% of that, we will need to import some serious numbers and Philippines cannot supply them all.  We do not deal with Bangladeshi or Pakistani labor brokers at all as it is impossible to find an ethical recruiter and they do not allow foreign companies to recruit on their own.

This thread is again, nothing more than an opportunity for the usual suspects to bash Thailand based on their experience of having a house built in Nakorn Nowhere or remodeling the bar next door to their usual hangout in lower Sukhumivt or Pattaya.

They are completely ignorant of the fact there is a hierarchy in the construction business everywhere in the world, and the workers they see are at the bottom of it. Any worker with any intelligence, initiative, and skill does not do small residential or commercial work. They move on to the big time, where a certified welder or electrician can make 30-40k THB a month and foremen and supervisors even more.

So, go ahead, have your fun, but what is said here does not in any way resemble reality.

TH

On a serioous note, the Aussies must be desperate, there are NO standards in this country. Thousands will die in Australia from collapsing buildings, bad electrical installation etc.

The amount of racism and hatred on this forum is staggering. You would think think a forum about Thailand, based IN Thailand, would bring together people who either live here or appreciate what Thailand has to offer.
Instead it's a forum full of haters.
Mostly bitter, old men, I presume.

#5288161 German Stabs Udon Thani Girlfriend 17 Times To Death

Posted sobriquet on 2012-05-10 13:09:23

Wintermute, you don't give your gender much credit. I know plenty of great, funny, sensitive and strong men who aren't weak of character, stupid, nor easily manipulated by sex, and they've never had to raise a hand to a woman to be that way. All the best guys I know - whether 'bad boys' or sensitive nerdy types - don't feel the need to assert themselves, nor try to prove 'dominance' through physical force. I think it's more the other way around - only the jerks ever resort to violence or emotional abuse (this goes for all genders).

But then, you are just trolling, so +1 for that.

#5088214 Thai Funerals And Noise

A bit akin to moving to America and complaining about the noisy fireworks on the 4th of July.

Not really, 4th July happens just once a year. This is constant excessive noise that has lasted for 2 weeks because of 2 funerals back to back.

Are you for real?

People have died and the respects paid and types of funerals are all part of Thai culture. It`s a fitting end and the final conclusion to someone`s life. So at least give them that with honor and respect. To be honest that;s the way I have chosen to go after I kick the bucket.

Perhaps when it`s your turn you will go quietly at a time and place where the activities do not disturb anyone else and then burned or buried discretely and forgotten with the minimum of inconvenience to the locals of the area. And make sure you die at a time that does not clash with another funeral.

To conclude, I am ever so glad that I do not have near farang neighbors, especially if they all have the same attitudes and share the same cold-hearted views as you. It makes me wonder why you are in Thailand? Because it appears you are unable to adapt to the ways here.

So in other words, like it or lump it.

I expected at least one reply like this. I think it strange that some people believe that any Farang who lives in Thailand should embrace and love everything Thai.
Many years ago , when living in Phrae province, I had the honour to be invited to the funeral of a relatively well off person. We were given food and the entertainment consisted of a small group with traditional Thai instruments singing traditional Northern Thai songs. I admit that the music sounded a little strange to me, but it wasn't offensively loud, there was no microphone or amplifier. The monks also managed their chants without the aid of a microphone.
I didn't really understand the conversation, but people were able to talk to each other without shouting. From what I was told, this was not a sad occasion, but a celebration of the life of the deceased.
That, as far as I am concerned is an example of a traditional funeral party and part of true Thai culture. A pleasant occasion that did not annoy or inconvenience the neighbours.
A appreciate that culture is an ever evolving thing, but it doesn't mean that I have to like it.
If it is now part of Thai culture to be inconsiderate of neighbours, then I don't see that as a good thing. An earlier poster stated that the police will shut down noisy parties after 11PM in Bangkok, so it is obviously not a nationwide cultural thing.

It is also part of Thai culture...
To be an habitual drunk
drive a motorbike without a helmet
drive like a maniac without any consideration of other road users

mixture of any of the above.

I don't drive when drunk, I wear a helmet/seat belt and I drive carefully. Am I wrong about this too? I don't think so.

I don't believe that I am being cold hearted because I am annoyed at being sleep deprived because of other people's lack of consideration.
And yes, I have made it clear that when it comes to my time to die, I want my body to be disposed of with as little fuss as possible. I don't subscribe to any religious theory/fiction, so I believe that once you die, the body is an empty vessel and should be disposed of the same as any used container.

To bad that same law does not apply to cop killers. Must be nice to take the high moral ground while being balls deep in s**t.
