An earth quake 30 times weaker than the last one had from the outset little potential to create a bigger wave. So panic, already after having this information that the quake was less than 6, would be completely wrong.

The main risk to anybody being in Patong on April 11 was actually not the tsunami, but getting maimed in traffic (a risk in general) by some fleeing idiot and then emergency services being so bogged down by even more idiots, that you would be long bled out on the street before you can ever reach hospital.

I arrived in Phuket yesterday afternoon, took the meter taxi from Airport to Phuket and the driver who didn't know where the hotel was anyway, drove like a stunt extra out of one of the Death Race films -(  not a great start to a relaxing break ....

How far away does one have to get to truly get away from the American non-sense that constantly flows out of the government? Sorry, but meaningless scare tactics don't impress me. Furthermore, if two people can stimulate a panic without even doing anything, then the so-called bad guys win, period.

In addition, this 'cry wolf' crap is really getting old.  Here's an idea America: try minding your own business and stop pissing on the rest of the world. See how that works instead of the normal gospel-spreading course, please.

The US Embassy should concentrate more on warning tourists about tuk-tuks, taxis, travel agency scams etc.
