The darkside is the place where happy and content people live....... you don't see us on ThaiVisa complaining about the Traffic, Russians, Dodgy Condo developments, Bar closures, Traffic lights, ++ Pricing, etc, etc, etc,.......:)

Not really.  The main attraction to living there is that it's not so noisy or filled with tourists.  I prefer to live around normal Thai people.

Those houses out there were always for suckers...I've driven around the area for years and never understood all the McMansions being build around the Maprachan mud-hole. Nobody with any smarts about Pattaya would ever have built/bought that far out.

So you have driven round the area for years and never understood why anyone would want to live there? Maybe to get away from people like you who are rude(calling people you've never met suckers), pretty dumb (you can't understand etc.) and very opinionated. I think ypu and downtown Pattaya deserve each other

Sorry Prefab and your prefabricated opinions, as anyone who has seen many of my thousands of posts over the years will know, I live on the Farside [just not as far out as the mudhole] and like to promote it as an alternative to the Brightside for those looking for a more 'normal" way of life.

As for those commenting on the dying bars, I'm all for it! The fewer girlie bars in the area the better as far as I'm concerned,
There have always been many nice bars/restos tucked away here and there on the Farside for those needing a little libation and company and they are fine. The crop of "in you face" places I hope all fail! For those wanting more action so to speak, there is the entire Brightside for you to explore.

And yes, I rent on NPW and love it...no McMansion to sell at a 50% loss for me...and flying back to SFO next week for a holiday/visa-run business class...so your point is?

Is that what you are so upset about Lt?  You bought gold back in the 70's and feel burned when it urged and then fell?  I have talked with many older folks that have bad memories of gold that I was too young to remember.  They all seem to have a similar opinion that gold is not a good store of wealth.

I'm still very confused with why anyone that bought gold lower than today's prices would be upset to still own it.  I guess I don't understand how your paper money is multiplying on it's own to keep up with the increase in gold prices throughout history.  No one here has yet to explain that.  They keep quoting inflation relative stats that afaik don't make your $100 bill turn into a $200 does it?

Maybe all the old-timers have it right.  Maybe I am the blind sheep walking around living with a false sense of security in that I own gold.  I can tell you that personally I feel very relieved that I own some physical gold/silver and that is much more so than holding paper money.

keep buying I remember 07'2 and bought a bit of gold then not much 4 years ago + i also said forget gold it had gone down around 80% in 20 years in real terms but now im 35% of our assets invested in gold and while not as rich as her nam assure you its enough to live on well for 10 years or so The world was bad in 70's 3 day week inflation 25% etc but IMO no where as bad as its going to be this time round im buying as much  as I can ever time we have any money and add around 2,000 gbp each month. Its different this time there will be a time when you should sell your gold/silver and then it will be a rerun falling in real terms by 80% IMO. Im 84 and dont listen to anyone but yourself

For me Darkside has been home for 10 yrs. It has changed immensely since then but I still enjoy what it has to offer. Frankly, I have no interest in the hole in the wall bars and all the useless banter that comes with it. However, I do enjoy the more natural surroundings of the area ( not busy soi nerm plub waan/kao noi or kao thalo), bike rides, cross country running, motorcross, fast access to motorway, lakes, golf courses, more and more varied restaurants, wider plots of land, lack of 2 week idiots who feel they know all and are rude. If you live here, you have access to everything Pattaya has to offer, when and if you want it, without having to face the ugliness of it 24 hrs a day. Sadly, as it happens everywhere, this will change with time....then it will be time to move somewhere else!

no matter how painful or truthful, one has think AND ask "have you seen those guys who flock out such amount"

in most cases, they are not the most gifted in terms of looks, personality and social skills.

having a nice, sweet "pussy cat" purring on their lap worth more than money for them, because back home they do not have and possibly never had it.

Are the stupid?! IMO yes, but it gives them the fake warm feeling they need.

I find it useless trying to explain things for them and point things out for them, because they ONLY want to believe what makes them warm and fuzzy inside.

So to summarize WHY in 1 word-------------------LONELINESS.

I wouldnt have it any other way.
