Book Swap

2012-02-18 16:20:04

When I lived in Bangkok, I used to be a member of Neilson-Hays Library. After I moved to Chonburi, I used to go back to Bangkok and visit the library to get some books. After a while, it became a chore and I did not renew my membership (2,500 Baht per year).

I've got some old books, my own, not Neilson-Hays! If anyone in the Pattaya or Chonburi area wants to swap some novels or knows any bars or guesthouses that do something like this, could you let me know.

On a related note, should I buy a Kindle or something like it. I don't really know what they entail and how to load books on them and how much it costs.

Aranyaprathet - Poipet

2012-02-05 09:54:41

1. Has anyone recently used a Cambodian e-visa at Poipet? It should be ok but I would like to hear any recent experiences.

2. What are the border opening times on a Sunday?

3. How much are the tuk-tuks charging from Aran bus station now?

4. Are there any decent duty free shops on the Cambo side selling wine now?

It's been a while since I was last there.

Thanks in advance.

How Would You Say "Length"?

New Traffic Campaign

2011-12-27 16:11:11

I had to laugh today.

Assumption Intersection on Sukhumvit Road in the centre of Sri Racha had cops everywhere. Then I spotted these crappy almost homemade signs with a traffic light picture and written in Thai on them, "Stop behind the line." A quick scan of the intersection showed the message was out and everyone was indeed behind the line. However a couple of girls on a Mio had no problems riding past the cops helmetless. Obviously that was not the 'soup of the day'.

So be warned and stop behind the line.

Basic Advice Required

2011-12-23 13:18:25

I would like some basic advice about the range of GPS devices. I have never owned a GPS device and know nothing about the products available.

I don't have a car.
I don't have an internet mobile phone link.
I don't have an iPod or Android or any other type of smartphone.

I do have a motorbike.
I enjoy driving around Thailand.
I like trekking in National Parks.
I like maps.
I can read Thai.

I would like something cheap and basic.
A hand-held device is required.
The device should show roads and landmarks.
The device should update automatically or be able to be updated automatically.
I would be happy to buy a no-name brand.
I would like to know distances, both by road and as the crow flies.
I would like to know where I am.
I would like to know how to get to places.

Brand, model, price and any other advice would be very welcome.

Thanks.
