Ditto the need to supply a copy of your lease or to otherwise prove your place of residence, that requirement is not in "the rules" yet two posters in this thread have been asked for such.

Actually, it is in the rules (indirectly). The rules says you can only get the extension at the immigration office servicing the area where you live. So it's doesn't seem unreasonable to me if the immigration officer ask for proof that you live in his "district".

This seems like a reasonable probability to me.  I have never been asked for a copy of my lease (since 2002), but they have asked questions which allowed them to see if I could recite my address and such.  I guess there way of checking.

In the past when financial requirements have been  raised for retirement extensions, people already in the system on the old levels have been grandfathered in on the old levels for as long as they stay here continuously. In other words, if they mess up and need a new visa, they need to start at the new levels but if they keep getting extensions, old levels. A very humane policy. Hopefully, this will continue for any future changes, but never any guarantees.

Are you sure about this?  I assume you are speaking from experience, so I won't say you are incorrect, but I have been here since 2002 on a continuous Retirement Visa/Extensions and when the requirements increased, they increased for me also.  At least no one ever told me otherwise.  Posted Image

Shocking news. My fondest memory of Ian was a few years back at the Chiang Mai speedway go kart track where several of us spent a pleasant afternoon getting mildly toasted whilst karting. Ian, somewhat under the influence,  decided to get his ZZR1100 onto the track and went from 0 - 60 on the start/finish straight and off the end into a load of tyres - priceless and we all had a good laugh about that.

R.I.P mate.

Cheers,

Pikey.

I was sitting in my car, waiting to pick someone up from one of the downtown Chiang Mai hospitals when I couldn't help but think what would really occur if there was a major earthquake or other disaster in the city.  It took me a very long time, picking my way through morning traffic, to get to the hospital.  The emergency entrances had cars lined up waiting to drop or pick up patients.  The miniscule number of emergency vehicles, coupled with the fact that many of the hospitals have only one way in or out (and that is generally congested) means........  If there is a major occurrence, let's just say it will be total mayhem, and don't expect much help for some time. Just sit and REALLY envision it in your mind once. It is a truly scary scenario.

You get a queue number for each requirement. Best of luck.

//edit. Thinking about this some more then if you have an efficient officer then he may process all these requirements at the same time. Maybe .... ?

The last time I renewed my Retirement Extension using the queue system, I also had my completed 90 day form with me and I showed it to the Immigration Officer as she processed my extension.  She smiled and said she would take care of it and gave it to the guys at the 90 day counter, no problem.  When my extension was completely finished, there was no longer a queue for reentry permits.  I just took my paperwork and copies to the counter and they did that also.  Just make sure you have all your copies and completed forms, and with a little luck, it is possible.
