#5217821 Songkran In Cm Why Are Farangs So Stupid?

Beetlejuice..... Why are you misquoting me?? Also, why do you make a blanket statement about how I handle people that have a dislike? You don't know me. I wouldn't ever tell anyone to bugger off... Can't you make your point without lies?..., I didn't tell anyone to bugger off. I have no problem with peoples dislikes etc etc. I merely stated that I didn't understand his problem. Until a few posts ago, the OP had claimed he had a specially made cover. So if that was true, then I don't see what the problem is with people firing water at it. He has since clarified it is not quite waterproof, which changes things somewhat. Waterproof camera housing is easy to spot, and can often be used underwater too, so I can see why the farang assumed he had taken the necessary precautions when bringing it out into the worlds largest water fight...

I have experienced songkran in the city many times, and frankly 90% of all races are as bad as one another. So, again, I don't agree with the post slamming just the farang....

As for me being the one shooting, I had a quieter day in San sai, with my extended Thai family, and the locals... I got a lot of water in the face, and not by any farang..... And even at about 7 last night, I got a shot from a water fun by an adult Thai guy that runs a local shop.

I have a lot more respect than to tell people to bugger off, and each to their own.... But do I not get my own opinion?? For example, I don't like it when people put words in my mouth and misquote me.... shame, shame on you sir....

It doesn`t matter, this is only a forum discussion and mean nothing personal.

I never take these threads too seriously and i am certain that if most of us were to meet up in a bar or somewhere and have a few beers together, that we would never bother to vomit up most of the crap that is said on here.

There is a lot more important issues to discuss in life, such as, girls, money and who`s buying the next round of drinks?

Sorry, old sport.

#5207581 Loy Kroh

I'm wondering if people who write on here have actually travelled anywhere else in the world. Loi Kroh is just a street and a pretty ordinary one at that. For some it seems to be the centre of the universe and for others merely a street for slagging off. In both cases it is getting some claim to fame, which it certainly doesn't deserve. You want to see streets? (of all kind)....I mean real streets, then go spend some time in Europe and when you come back Loi Kroh will just be an alley.

#5199301 Pre-Songkran Water War Activity

Posted mcgriffith on 2012-04-07 20:56:04

I'm an old fart of 60. I've lived here full time 6 years, but first visited CM in 1975, coincidentally during Songkran week.
There was lots of water action even back then, but the young crazies (all local) used to fill balloons with water and launch them with inner tube rubber slingshot contraptions. It was a 3 man deal to launch one little water balloon. No mega squirt gun action, as they didn't exist.
No pickup trucks with barrels loaded with ice water- bicycles were pretty much the main transport back then.
Oh, and if you walked down a street of shophouses, maybe someone would playfully dump a small dipper of water on your head from the second floor.
All good fun.

Now Songkran has been adopted by farang soccer hooligans who fly in for short Easter break visits, and for whom violence and shock action is standard (wherever these creatures infest the planet).
And as is usual, the Thai go along with the trend, sanook sanook, one more fun event. Forget the gentle pouring of water over Grandma's wrist in a symbol of respect and cleansing. Hey, the crazy-ass farang like to use water as violent acting out...let's do what they do!

I almost had my neck snapped by one of these farang yobos while riding at slow speed near my apt. passing a line of stopped traffic a few years go.
He had one of the small buckets, that when snapped in just the right way aimed at your head at close range, can eff you up seriously.

I had somewhere to get to, and I didn't want to park, get off the bike, confront him, and then punch his stupid dumb ass clueless lights out.

The whole thing is not sanook family fun anymore, IMO.
It has become water war bullshit, masquerading as some "cultural festival".
Many if not most of my friends, all long timers with 10-20 yrs here, vacate CM during this BS period.
Of course, if you are a 20/30/40 something (maybe with a few small children), it is all nice infantile/juvenile fun.

Grumpy old man rant over. Posted Image

Not that i need explain myself, but there was a very good reason why i could not mail it in. That isnt the point. Those making digs in that direction or digs regarding complaining, if you re-read the opening post, it was in fact a heads up, not a complaint. The only thing that could be deemed as a complaint, if one was forced to analyse, is the officer pocking 2000 baht..which i believe was worth mentioning.

I think there is no thread on thaivisa, helpful or otherwise, that nit-pickers cannot nit-pick about!
