I have to get some documents signed to confirm my identity for something in Singapore. Does anyone know what Notary Public or Commissioner for Oaths is, and where in Bangkok is a person like that? Is this done at the Singapore embassy?
Previously a law office wanted 3000 Baht for just a signature on a copy of my ID, which I decided I'd ask somewhere else. At that cost I think I would just fly down to Singapore and present my ID in person!

Us Citizen Abroad

I would like to ask any American citizens who live permanently outside of the US but file annual tax returns to the IRS. My question is if you have capital gains - for example through investment in the Stock Exchange of Thailand - which are tax exempt in the country of your residence, do you still have to pay tax on these to the IRS?
Please also specify, if the gain is less than the 91,000 foreign income exclusion and income from all sources (incl CG) is less than this. Would you still have to pay any tax?
BTW, I'm not an American and have never filed US federal taxes either.

To Translate Documents Or Not?

A Question regarding documents for the US embassy in BKK. I’m applying for an IMMIGRANT visa for myself and family, and would like to know if documents in Thai need to be translated for the interview?
I have an explanation from the state dept saying “…documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations….”
So, apparently this means that Thai language documents are ok without a translation. Can anyone confirm this please? (As I have heard from other people that they had to translate these documents into English.)
Or is this a recent change that they can now accept Thai language documents without the translation?

Usa Tourist Visa Waiting Times
2011-05-13 00:55:37
I'm hoping to travel to USA in late September for tourism, however I'm not part of the visa waiver program and need to apply for tourist visa at the embassy here in bangkok. Does anyone with recent experience or knowledge know :
1. How long is the current approximate waiting time to schedule an interview for tourist visa ie. how far in advance you need to book? (I mean the soonest I could get an interview if I booked now)
2. How long after the interview until you get the visa (assuming it's successful)?
3. Also I'm a non-thai applicant but work in Bangkok, do I need any special documents eg. my work permit, bank statements, letter from company for interview?
Many thanks for any answers!

Statutory Declaration Witness For Australian Partner Visa
2010-09-26 01:48:32
Please help. My friend - an Australian - is applying for his wife to immigrate to Australia. Since he doesn't know any Aussies in Thailand he asked me to complete a statutory declaration (I only just found out what this is !) since the Aussie immigration need statement from a person that has known both of the applicant and sponsor for a while. This is fine except they also require someone to witness me sign the declaration who has a special type of job e.g. dentist, doctor, nurse, bank officer, public servant, justice of the peace (what is that??)
The problem is I've tried everyone I know and even people I don't know and no-one wants to sign as a witness !!!!
I explained to them that they are just witness for my signature on the statement, but no-one believes this and are worried about signing something in English with their address and contact details on it.
(Also why would the Australian visa officer want to contact them anyway, since a witness won't speak English?) I asked my friend perhaps I can sign on the day of interview with visa officer at the embassy, but he insists it needs to be done before. I don't understand why Australian immigration expect another country to be the same as their own laws. What can I do? And where can I go to get witness????
