Korat Zoo & The Eastern Sarus Crane
2012-04-29 10:55:54
Another reintroduction program gained more ground this past week (courtesy of Korat Zoo) with 8 Eastern Sarus Cranes (worlds tallest flying bird) coming a step closer to being released back into the wild in Buriram Province.

This beautifully elegant bird (Nok Karien) has been absent from Thailand as a breeding species for many years now and while Cambodia holds the nearest small sustaining population, in zoo's or as a very rare wild visitor/vagrant are the only 2 ways it can be seen here today.
I sincerely wish the team at Korat Zoo all the very best of luck with this project.

Super Rare Thai Visitor Being Rescued From The Brink
2011-12-22 05:29:47
Great news..! i can't think of any other group globally doing anything like this to help one of the rarest birds in the World.
Most naturalists here will already be aware of this 'Thai Gem' as Thailand is one of the only places on Earth where the bird can be easily be seen, albeit in very small numbers, when they leave their breeding grounds in the Russian tundra to winter at just a couple of sites around the Bay of Bangkok.
For anyone interested in seeing this species, there are birds present right now at Khok Kham & Pak Thale... Links -

I wonder what Canon will be unveiling in their "historic global announcement"

a mirrorless (hope so) APS-C size or full frame system..? or a new EOS DSLR..?
..also, a new high end compact was announced yesterday.. The Canon Powershot S100 (replacing the S95) - video is .here.
interesting times ahead...
