Looking for some advice on finding a decent hotel on Thailand which is actually on a high hill/mountain. Nearly everyone which advertises itself as being 'in the mountains' actually turns out to be on or near the valley bottom looking up at the mountains. I want somewhere where I am looking down on the valleys and with excellent far reaching views.

The only place I have found so far is the hotel at the Princess Mother's old Summer Palace in the Doi Tung area near Chiang Rai. However, while the views from the restaurant are good, those from the rest of the hotel are poor, and the general standards of the rooms etc are definitely not good. What I am looking for is a minimum 3 star type hotel where I can curl up with a good book in a squashy armchair in front of a roaring log fire while the wife goes for long walks through the woods. Well, OK, the log fire might be asking too much, but you get the picture.

The nearest equivalent for what I am looking for would be something like one of the better hotels in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia.
