It is a customs fee for small packages arriving by postal mail.  I often get those on large envelopes or small packages, but not every time.  Don't know why the inconsistency.

Thanks. That is what I thought. The strange thing is that I get a lot of packages from overseas and this is the first time I have been charged the fee. I guess I have been lucky. My brother got hit with his first one last week and mine was today.

She needs to get a BlackBerry data plan. You cannot use hour based packages. The time will be gone in less than a day as the BlackBerry is connected to the data servers 24/7. Also without a BlackBerry plan she cannot use any RIM services (i.e., the BlackBerry is not being used as a BlackBerry). They have low cost plans for people that just want email and chat, or email and facebook. If he wants to surf the internet also she needs to get a regular BB plan. Then her service books will automatically download to her phone opening up the wonderful world of the BlackBerry experience. Without a BB plan a BB is a waste of money. There are ways around the email issue but it is not easy to do and not for the novice user, and she would still need a volume based data plan not an hourly plan. If she wants email DTAC is correct for the most part, she must get a BlackBerry data plan. RIM is paid a monthly fee for each BB on a BB data plan.

What carrier are the phones locked to? I might be able to help you out as I run an IMEI unlocking service. I can get unlock codes for almost any phone, but unlock codes for Nokia and Motos (when new) are not cheap. Once I know the carriers I can quote you prices to get the unlock codes, which are then simply entered into the phone to permanently unlock them.

In Topic: Thailand Mobile Expo Question On Promotions

In my experience the promos sell out exceptionally fast. Go early the first day. Some vendors, such as Wellcom, have a daily quota and stop selling the promo until the next day (they allocate some to each day but usually none for the last day in case other days not sell out). Some are just a few that sell out quickly and that's it. They are discounts usually, not add-ons. The expos are an exception to the discounting rule in Thailand. For example, last time I was looking for a regular cheap phone that also had 3G frequencies. I-Mobile had some they were blowing out super cheap. I went early on the first day. A Thai was there at the same time I was there and they started taking them all away. He committed to buying the entire lot. The lady that was helping me asked me if I just wanted one and I said yes. She took one out of the box before they totaled him up and gave it to me. I was lucky I got one at all. Good luck.

It means it will work on the 900 and 2100 Mhz bands (maybe others check the specs). 900 is AIS only. 2100 is TOT3G in Thailand and almost every carrier in Europe, Australia, etc.. None in the U.S. as they use non-standard bands.
