We were over on Jan. 26th and they wanted 500 baht and were having nothing to do with
$10 USD. I had a wad of Burmese money with me and thought about trying to use that but
decided that would probably be asking for trouble. However was able to freely use it in
the market and got a good rate on it.

If I had a real interest in which team wins the game I would go to one of the pubs
showing the game, though not the UN Irish to watch the game twelve hours after it is
over. However without a rooting interest I would prefer to watch it over the internet
as there you get all the commercials (not shown on ASN or True Vision) and as
most Super Bowl watchers will attest this is generally the most entertaining part of
the broadcast.

Just returned from up north- Found Coke Zero in 1.25L bottles, smaller bottles and cans at the
Tesco/Lotus in Mae Sai. Somehow the supplies get all the way to the far north and bypass Chiang Mai
OR are they bringing it in from Burma?

I kept a copy of one of the tourist magazines from when we first visited Chiang Mai. In it there are real estate advertisements
and the cost of rental properities is almost exactly what they are today. Know the baht has fluctuated in value over the years
but the prices in baht seem almost the same as they were in 1989.

What you most likely saw were paragliders as seen in the photos from the Balloon Festival yesterday (below).
They have a parachute like rig that is manuvered by a engine driven fan attached behind them. Not sure the
balloon pilots appreciate them being around though sure no one can do anything about it.
