#5253587 Why Is It So Difficult To Find A Good Friend In Thailand

Posted trainman34014 on 2012-04-27 10:27:46

My Father died many years ago but in his last year he told me that when we are approaching our later years we realise that we can count our 'real' friends on the fingers of one hand.  I've always remembered that and it is so true.

As for friends in Thailand; I think it is a matter of what you have in common with others because we are all different when it comes to the things we like/dislike.  Trying to purposely seek out friends doesn't work in my opinion; better to wait and see who comes along the winding road of life as it leads to some nice encounters.

Unfortunately, that grammar school education appears to have been - at least partly  - wasted.

My grammar school education taught me about fairness. Whilst I agree with your sentiments (regarding the benefits that we enjoyed) the application of pension increases is patently unfair. If no one outside the UK received the increase that, at least, would be 'fair'.

This is not about having the choice to move somewhere that does qualify for the increase - that should not even be a consideration.

Your grammar school education may have been about fairness.  The key thing I learnt from mine was about self-reliance, independence and the desire to get through life on your own resources, not relying on random government largesse.

She's obviously a working girl.
Why don't you pay her ?
Do you think she enjoys spending the evening with you and did held the conversation just because you are soo interesting?
Get a grip.
Bar girls are working girls, so they should be paid.

#5099219 English As Your Mother Tongue?

As an Englishman, I don't see why I need to learn a second language. The language I was taught from birth seems so widely spoken that it seems illogical for me to learn a less popular language. I have therefore decided not to try and to limit any possible language requirements to numbers, so I may ensure I am not taken for a fool (too late_ in lands I wish to visit. Such as Thailand.

There are of course my good neirbours the French, whom have their own honorable language and are as disengaged into speaking English as I am disengaged into speak French. The Entente Cordial has been so successful in the past 100+ years because they cannot understand the insults we throw at them and visa versa. Peace has reached an equilibrium. An understanding of not bothering to understand. Has it not worked ?

I do not take offence to the American Peoples Bastardising my Mother Tongue, because my own Countrymen in Liverpool, Newcastle, London and yes those North of the Border (You know who you are) do far more damage to the Queens' English than those on the over side of the pond. I do however take offence to installing software, where my only option is to install  either French, German or American English. Well if I must but of course, I suppose I speak English American too.

Languages are wonderful and expressive and can delight the arts of many peoples. however wars have been fought under mispronunciation of words and so it is best for us simple people who delight in pains and pleasures of the East to simply to speak English. The language of those who have the wallets full of cash. When cash speaks even English is a foreign language.

</TONGUE IN CHEEK>

I'm glad you said it was tongue in cheek, Autan;  there are six mistakes in your second paragraph alone!  But I wouldn't comment on your grammar and spelling if you hadn't shown yourself such a chauvinistic Brit!  Tongue in cheek or wherever.

#5072267 British Ex-Pat Pensioners

Given the huge cuts in public spending and the fact that people in the UK are having to accept cuts to services, welfare and the whole NHS funding debate I'd put the chances of a petition fir fair expat pensions somewhere around zero.

The time to press for this was before the last election when votes are needed.

But I ask, how many expats bother voting in the election back home. My guess is almost none - untill the expat vote is seen as a significant factor in elections expats will be ignored.

Don't petition VOTE!

#4964864 To Songkran Or Not To Songkran 2012

Posted ludditeman on 2012-01-08 21:40:16

SongKran is a pain in the butt, tourists chucking water at everyone, avoid.
Loy Gratong is much better, Thais throwing fireworks at you, much more exciting.

If only they could combine both festivals, tourists throwing water over Thais trying to light fireworks, that would be fun!

If they want to clear out the rubbish, introduce a 1 month amnesty after that anyone who overstays should be fair game.

Oh finally a good news! i was so concerned about going out at night time (but even during the day for that matter), knowing that i might eventually came across one of the very feared "overstayers" , i can cope with almost any sort of issues or dangers, but having to deal with a man/woman which is not a "quality tourist" is already bad enough, leave alone someone which break this vital law! is just too much, nevermind the killers, scammers, abusers, cheaters, thiefs around us, the constant chronic break of safety standards and human rights, etc.., go and get the overstayers that's the real crime in this country, the main priority for the resolution of all major problems affecting the country for sure,  thank you amazing Thailand! :D

#3883413 Why Thailand Fought On The Japanese Side During Ww Ii

Posted sillyman99 on 2010-09-14 23:02:19

Jesus H Christ.................. Why don't we all do a google search and pat each other on the back !!!!!!!!!!

The fact is that NOW Thailand is kicking UK's ass in economic terms, and they never sent one freekin' soldier overseas !!!!!!!

You know that the Asian countries are actually laughing at the amount of money we Western Superpowers spend ( Waste ), it's something of a joke. I mean really, what is the point ?

The Chinese will only ever allow the west to take what they want them to take, no more.

In a conventional war, the Chinese can lose 100,000 men per week and not bat an eyelid, the American public would demand the end of a war if the US lost 100 men per week.
