#5289486 Naming And Shaming

What did your wife actually say, did she say it was a bad thing or a good thing?

I would imagine your wife would have a fine balancing act to play as you are a farang, there may be a lot of expectation on her via you.

There may also be people in the village that look forward to the event. Interesting topic.

She has told me she doesn't agree with it either.

On another occasion they were collecting for something else for the wat ( i think they all needed top ups for their mobiles or something). The wife gave as normal but when she put 100 baht in the dish, the guy actually started hassling her, asking why because she has a farang, didn't she put more money in. this was in front of the neighbours. she just walked away but he kept on talking. she turned around and walked back over, put her hand in her purse again, opened it and then put her hand in the dish and took the 100 baht back. the guy couldnt believe it and neither could the neighbours.  Posted Image

I look forward to trying Sausage King products the next time I'm in Chiang Mai.

Raindancer, enough of the hostility. Sausage King answered your question, and as a paid sponsor of this forum he has earned the right to self-promote.

#5219749 Does The Songkran Water Madness Finish On Sunday 15Th?

Posted ralphlsasser on 2012-04-15 11:18:43

It wouldn't be bad for the ones that wants to participate, but when the idiots get stupid and throw ice or rocks in their water, that's going too far. Motorcycles are dangerious enough, but when some drunk, idiot 14 year old hits you in your face with water while driving, that's going too far. When the drunks get in the middle of the road stopping all traffic, wheather you want to or not and dances to music that is loud enough to cause hearing damage, that's going too far. When one of the drunk kids makes a girl stop on a motorcycle and feels her breasts, that's going too far. If that is fun to you, there is something seriously wrong with your head. So, go have your idiotic, stupid, dangerious fun.

#5216392 Songkran In Cm Why Are Farangs So Stupid?

why have an expensive camera when you are in Thailand walking around in Songkran , maybe its you who did not think.
Hmm sorry Thongkorn, i disagree. Surely people can have a bit of consideration. I actually dont understand the need for inconsiderate behaviour such as trying to wreck someones equipment, trying to squirt water in someones ear or eyes, or back streets where people are wearing regular clothes, obviously not participating in songkran (or in the evening when ppl are dressed for dinner). (The ice water does my head in as well to be honest, but thats just a personal grouch). Just dont get why people can enjoy an event, as crazy as it may be, without the need for pretty extreme behaviour. Like rabid dogs let of a leash or something...just dont get it.

#4995745 90-Day Reporting For Multiple-Entry Non-Immigrant B Visa?

Posted lopburi3 on 2012-01-21 21:42:39

The multi entry allows 90 day stays of unlimited number for a one year period.  This is the type of visa the OP said he had and was asking how to use it which was as he stated in his number one entry - leave and return every 90 days.  Many people who do not qualify for extensions of stay must use this type of entry for long term stay if working for a new company or at salary below that required for extension.

And the retirement has option to use 65k income letter or a combination.  And the money does not have to be in account more than 3 months each year.  And it can be a higher interest fixed deposit account.

#3921305 Treat Poor Thais Like Children

Posted Chunky1 on 2010-10-01 16:16:08

This has been my experience but you are welcome to state and argue a differentiating opinion. Essentially in Thai society rich Thais treat poor Thais in a very non-personal manner, therefore, if you treat a poor Thai person (your maid/driver/the noodle lady/employee) nicely they will take your kindness as weakness. In the West, we treat everyone as though they are deserving of respect regardless of social standing. In Thailand, note that everyone is not equal. You have social classes to heed. You can smile at them but do it vaguely while avoiding eye contact. If you have some extra fruit that you are eating, throw it in the garbage as opposed to spoiling them with it (unless it is close to a holiday in which case you can call it a bonus). Do not engage them on any personal level. Poorer Thais are easily confused and you should keep their tasks and the social order as simple as possible.

#3905207 Turning Reputation Featue Off At The User Level

Posted Jingthing on 2010-09-24 18:35:04

Is it possible for users to request to be EXCLUDED from the reputation feature functionality?

If so, I would like my powers to both GIVE and GET both GREENS and YELLOWS disabled, paired with resetting my reputation counter to NIL, as a PERMANENT action.

By permanent, I mean I would be forfeiting the option of ever turning ON the feature again.

Can support do that for me?

This is not a flippant request. I seriously want this to be done if it is technically possible. Perhaps there are technical issues/time issues with doing this now. If so, please leave this request open in case it becomes possible later.

#3894966 Beaten Up By Restaurant Owner Because I'M A Vegetarian

You certainly can get tom yum style soups with pork, usually served with noodles. VERY common street food.

Nam Prik Pow is NOT veggie. It has shrimp paste in it, sometimes dried shrimp.
I discovered early on that a lot of advertised veggie food isnt veggie. Ive been vegetarian for 21 years, but I also have a couple of allergies, one being shellfish. I soon found out that shrimp paste was being used in some dishes when my lips started getting itchy and then *bam* DUCKLIPS! Sounds comical, but actually takes a couple of days for the swelling to go down, is often painful, and the allergy unfortunately gets worse with every reaction..so im very cautious about what and where i eat. Last reaction i had trouble breathing and took a long time for the swelling to subside even though i carry medication on me and take it as soon as i feel any reaction. I dont want to have to carry around a Epipen, but might need to just in case. So.. i never trust "vegetarian" food here unless im absolutely sure of how the food is cooked. Although i agree about taking responsibility for our own food choices and needs, at the same time i feel that restaurants that advertise that dishes are vegetarian should take responsibility in really understanding what they are offering..and be true to it. If you buy a toy that says "safe for small children", "non toxic" etc, you generally put faith in the manufacturer. There are many things we put faith in, and anyone/any place with some sense of responsibility will not fob their customers off, try to trick them, or have no consideration for them. But...as i said..i just dont trust places here, so i am careful, and if im in company that mainly eats meat, i will go wherever they go and eat something like fruit. The problem however in that case is that people start fussing about what i should be eating and that does my head in. Just wish people would leave my food choices alone. I dont tell them what they should and shouldnt eat!

Side note: and those who clicked minus on my rep just because i was doing my job as mod..well, thanks for shooting the messenger. Rather petty however, but fine.

#3873353 Brave Behind Your Anonymity

Posted rachele703 on 2010-09-10 01:31:23

This is a quick note for all you posters who seem to get some kind of kick out of purposely trying to harm the sale of Tuskers and for trying to run down a number of local businesses whenever the chance arises.

Well done for being so brave - you really are big men, sitting behind your computer, using an anonymous name and making snide comments just out of spite. While everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, some people have clearly used the opportunity to get ‘one up on us’.  If we have been so awful to you that you can’t think of anything else to do other than trying to jeopardize the sale of our business then please let me know who you are and what we’ve done. If you’re simply doing it because you just don’t like us, is that a really fair fight?

You know us, you know what we do and you know why we’re doing it.  I have no idea who you are, what you do or why.  Tell me your names, what you all do and then let me have a vicious conversation about you on an open internet forum – then we might be playing on an even keel. Does running a business (whether you like it or not) give someone else the right to get personal and nasty about them on a public forum?  Personally, I don’t think so but then I respect other people, their privacy and their right to make their own decisions.

The details of the sale of Tuskers are no one’s business but our own and those of a potential buyer. The vicious comments by anonymous posters this week has caused unnecessary stress to me and my baby. You have no right to do this.

#3867023 What Would You Do To Improve Your Reputation?

Posted zaza on 2010-09-07 11:20:15

Hi forum mates,:jap:

I am currently shocked, dismayed, and horrified . I just found out I have a very bad reputation, in the forum, in fact ; I am running on a "Red =-1= minus 1= negative= under zero" reputation.
How could it be?
What Have I done?
Is there under Zero reputation?
What is the measurement that is used as a criteria in this process?
How would it be to have a "under zero" =minus reputation in a forum in Thailand?

To all the ill reputed members here on board; what (did you do) are you doing to regain your lost "reputation" in this forum? or did you always refrain yourself from stepping on some sensitive-souls' toes, out here to avoid losing your reputation?

Lastly; If I don't get my reputation green colored , positive, and over zero reputation  , by tonight, then I would level  others' reputation down with mine!
Cheers!

#3866019 What'S Your Opinion On The Reputation Feature?

I am completely obsessed by this new feature and check my points constantly. I once pathetically begged for a greenie, but now that I'm in the 'excellent' category, am too proud to stoop to begging.

From the outset I've mostly been respectful of other posters, sparing, allusive and fair in my criticisms, thoughtful in what I post, minded my spelling, punctuation and formating and gone to great pains to avoid using those awful emoticons.  As such, point system or not, how do I improve on posting perfection? It's not fair!

Also, I've noticed that certain emotional topics, like the perennial red/yellow slugfests can be gold mines of greenies, once you've sussed out the audience and post appropriately. I've been tempted to go digging there, but decided it would be just too easy. Where's the sport in shooting fish in a barrel (or roping a 'girlfriend' at a go-go bar)?

Then there are those that get points just for showing up. While mothers are a legitimate voting bloc, here on TV, as a practical matter, they are a bloc of one for one. Whatever happened to 'tough love'? As my mom is not computer savvy, it's not fair!

Honest greenie whores with no helpful mothers or friends are left with little option but to spend hours honing their submissions, gauging member sentiment, and studying up on the most opportune times to post. It's exhausting and it's not fair!

What I'd like to see is a hair-pullingly complicated system where there are check boxes of (-)5 to (+)5 points on a whole host of subjective and objective criteria like spelling, punctuation, wit, grammar, relevancy, pathos, helpfulness, etc and where the weight given to each mark depends on the reputation level of the giver, which in turn varies from category to category. For example, those with high marks for wit should be given greater weight when judging the wit of others. If it makes everyone as nuts as I already am, well, then that would be fair.

And there’s me thinking you were joking! Hahaha You sadoo! I’m going to give out my first and only greenie. I would hate for you not to get you “numbers” up. What happens when you reach…..The enlightened level?

I don't know what a 'sadoo' is, but I think it's something good. I find that accentuating the positive helps with the greenies.

As for 'enlightened level' —I am both dismayed and elated. dismayed because I thought I had reached the apex with my 'excellent' badge only to now be told there are higher levels. Elated because I have a new reason to get up in the morning. After spending years chasing after money, I find I miss the thrill of the chase. Thanks to TV and the greenies, my life has meaning again.

#3824683 Reputation Feature

Posted dantilley on 2010-08-19 13:12:07

I see we now have the ability to give negative as well as positive reputation marks to posts, which is a good addition to the site I think.  One thing, can we also have the ability to list all members by reputation in descending / ascending order?

And also, seeing as the vast majority of the site's memebrs are inactive and therefore will likely remain on zero reputation for ever, can we also filter this list to exclude all members above or below a certain reputation score?  Would be interesting to see who's top of the list! Although I think Webfact will be leading the pack by a considerable distance...
