Can anybody in or around Pai confirm the Rocket Festival on the 4th.June please.
Would also be interested in this.

Cheers
Hi I ran into a guy building some rockets and he confirmed that the Boonbangfai will be Monday June 4 at Wat Prabat. To get there proceed north out of Vieng Neua village for about 1 km then just before reaching Pura Vida guest house take a right up the hill on a small concrete road for about another km and someone will usually be directing traffic up to the wat. Usually gets under way by noon but it's very late this year so rain could be an issue. This is a small village-level festival but could be of interest to those looking for a novel way to die in Pai.

A 10,000 baht fine should deter anyone else who is tempted by corruption.

Langkawi is a miniature version of Phuket, not much to do or see
Taxis are cheap, scooter hire expensive
No bars or bar ladies that should put a few people off
We will not return far more interesting places in Thailand to visit

Langkawi is a miniture verson of what Phuket used to be.

Taxis and drivers are cheap, so most people do not require to hire a bike.

I don't know where you stayed, but there were plenty of beach bars (bars on the sand) where I stayed.

Yes, there are no prostitutes in the bars hounding you to buy a drink for them and BS'ing to you while a DJ is playing music so loud you can not have a coversation with anyone.  Langkawi is not a brothel like most tourist islands in Thailand.  You do not get sex tourist going there.

Langkawi is small.  It has some places of interest.  Eg. the cable car.  It is a place to retire to with a partner.  Malaysia has some of the best foreign ownership of land laws for foreigners.  Has very easy visa laws for foreigners.Eg. 90 day visa exemption stamp on arrival.  Langkawi has been made a tax free island to promote tourism, so things are cheap.  It has not been turned into a concrete jungle and exploited like Phuket.

"Far more interesting places in Thailand to visit."  Can you define what you mean by "interesting."  Can you also name some places in Thailand and why they are interesting.

Langkawi is only one part of Malaysia, like Phuket is only one part of Thailand.

It's a very relaxing place.

i could tell u 50 islands in thailand that are better than langkawi. langkawi is a commercial resort island with way over the top prices for food and hotels ,
and the beaches are below average by thai standards.
i cant believe namkanman is saying that most islands have prostitutes, loud music etc ..what a load of rubbish.

u can find many islands in thailand where there is no bars/barladys or loudMusic.in fact most of them are like this.

btw  how would u describe a sex tourist ? let me guess, a white middle aged man with an asian women?
Yes there are still islands like that in LOFS although sadly Lipe is no longer in that group.

The Langkawi beaches at Tanjung Rhu and Datai Bay are excellent, and the natural beauty of its forested geoparks like Hole in the Wall along with diverse wildlife are far superior to anything in Phuket IMO. Great local food and outrageously cheap booze, an absence of touts and scammers (not to mention a starkly contrasting rate of violent crime and corruption) make it worth an extended visit for me. Penang and Pankor too if you're headed South.

In Topic: Do Not Die In Pai........

Wow thanks I've lived in the Pai valley nearly 10 years now and had no idea it was so dangerous here.

It is a beautiful place to die though since we all have to.
