The most professional camera shop in Bangkok is AV Camera, http://www.avcamera.com/
The best of the cheap ones is Capa at Fortune Tower (grey imports), http://www.capa.co.th
Fotofile at MBK, first floor is also very good, http://www.fotofile.net/ , but crowded and more expensive as well. Great for second hand gear though.
Hong Kong is often cheaper, but it's a hassle compared to Bangkok, and not all the shops there are cheap.

On a more serious note, the attitude towards alcohol is shocking in great parts of this country. I know people in rural areas who get drunk every single day of the week, and even more shockingly: They seem to think that it somehow enhances their position in society. They keep saying "I am drinking alcohol" (the only English words they know) with a passion as if they had found pure gold in their backyards

This country is getting weirder every week. What if they used some of the energy spent on populist poster policies, useless flower pots etc. to solve the real problems. This can't go on forever, and I think some will get a nasty surprise or two when ordinary Thai citizens have had enough.
