In Topic: External Fax Modem For Windows 7?

I bought a cheap (B350) USB fax-modem from a shop at Tukcom in Pattaya.  I'm sure you can find one in Pantip or Fortune Town in Bangkok, as well.  I don't use it often.  I only use it as a modem for my notebook computer when visiting my mother in the USA who only has 56k dial-up.  It works with Win7 Home & Pro.

I just googled the info on a sticker on the modem and found this link:  http://thesystem.co....e/print.php?gr=

Move down/search for "MODEM Internal / USB," there are two fax-modems listed.  The first is an internal (PCI) modem and the second one -- USB -- apparently is mine.

You can buy them online from the Bangkok Distributor 'Sanook Shoping' with your either you Thai credit card or Thai Bank internet funds transfer here at  http://shopping.sano...product/6793454 - Note that if you can't read Thai you'll need a Thai friend to help you create an account and search for the item as MODEM USB 56K Ext. FAX/MODEM USB560.

In Topic: Applications For Permanent Residency Open Until 30 Dec.

My inititial take on this had me rushing to check the calender to ensure it was not an April Fools day ruse - Then I settled on this being a cleverly planned exercise to mess up every long term Farangs christmas with false hopes. Whatever. I think this is one issue where beer definitely has the answer...
So, I have already sent the accountant down to Dor.Mor (The local Thai Immigration Office). to check this PR post out - and it is for realPosted Image

So, those of you interested in dusting off your PR applications, here is the latest 'Permament Residency application supporting paperwork requirements' form collected by my accountants own fair hands from Jomtien, Chonburi Immigration this afternoon.

This version in Thai.

Enjoy.

In Topic: Thai Immigration Crackdown On Ed Visas

So if the guy in Barry's story actually understood what the officer was saying in Thai about the big fish eating the little fish, would he have gotten another year's ED visa? I certainly hope so....

Probably not - it’s way too simple a phrase to understand for someone studying Thai, and misses the point of the immigration official checking if he really going to school or not.
Any child in Thai school would have retorted with the popular Thai tongue twister and similar sounding phrase...

ปลาใหญ่กินปลาเล็ก

ยักษ์ใหญ่ไล่ยักษ์เล็ก
So now you know.

Another airport arrest? What the hell is going on this week?

Yer right. Me thinks Bangkok airport has recently taken delivery of some new toys...
http://www.as-e.com/

These 'toys' are pretty revolutionary and can detect everything suspicious (drugs/explosives/etc) hidden in baggage and, er, even bodily orifices.

So it would now appear that the profession of international 'drugs mule' has just got very risky indeed.

Oh, and BTW, one should not confuse these new toys with the usual trashy 'film-eating' x-ray baggage scanners that have been around for donkeys years, or them impolite 'whole body scanners' that have got a lot of publicity in recent times...

A hint at the level of technology involved in this new gear, is that the inventor won a Nobel Prize;
http://www.as-e.com/     (Though don't click this link unless you have an I.Q. over 150 else your brain will explode trying to make sense of the techno-blurb)

So then... 'good old Professor Compton'!

They need to clean up their act.  This is a major world airport and should be kept open except for the most horrible and dangerous weather.

Precisely. It is the most horrible and dangerous weather. Checked on the status of Frankfurt by the way? Or other European airports?

Heathrow airport's level of preparedness for snow is a joke; they should take a lesson from Alaska's very busy Anchorage airport http://www.airport-t...ects/anchorage/  - The sixth busiest airport in the world (by traffic).

The snow clearing teams at Ted Stevens Anchorage international Airport must be laughing themselves silly over the fiasco at Heathrow.

Any day now I am certain the mandarins at Heathrow will inform us that... wait for it... "It was the wrong type of snow!" :cheesy:
