Hi,
Anyone recommend a good online retailer in Thailand that can deliver a laptop in Bangkok same day/next day? Also must accept credit card payments from overseas.
(Missus had her laptop knocked today, so i need a quick replacement).
Not looking for anything flash, but also don't trust her to make the right choices when it comes to technical stuff.
Cheers
./P

Just Been Burgled
2011-07-16 14:05:16
Just got word the family home has been turned over. Twunts
A fair amount got taken. Looks like the scumbags knew where to look. I'll keep the speculation to myself.
For now, if anyone spots the following on their travels, appreciate a heads up.
Black ASUS Netbook A1000H - has a white apple sticker on the lid.
Iphone (1st Generation) - has a line of grey dead pixels across the screen (this was my sons)
Christian Dior Gold watch - http://www.paragonwa...D70-150MCHs.jpg - This has huge sentimental value attached.
Jewelry - diamond rings, necklaces. Dont have an accurate description.
This was from the Nawamin Road area, so i expect these to turn up in the flee markets, possibly Bangkapi
Waiting for them to turn the laptop on as i have a remote login + skype to take discreet screenshots.
The thing that irks me is that the house is out in the open on a semi busy road (with the usual stalls etc selling their food). I'm sure there is a witness somewhere.
Ah what a mess!

Did I Buy The Right Ipad
2010-10-16 15:06:13
After walking up and down Fashion Islands mobile phone stores some weeks ago, i finally decided to buy an iPad. I was torn between the wifi and the 3G version. After a few hours trying to decide, i chose the 32G wifi over the 16GB 3G model, with the fact in my mind i could tether from my android device.
One thing recently that I've been kicking myself about it the lack of GPS. The 3G Model has a dedicated GPS chip, the Wifi does not. I decided there must be some solution - perhaps an external GPS module. As it turns out, I had everything i needed right with me.
How to get true GPS on a wifi iPad ? Well there are two things you need to purchase, maybe 3 if you don't have an android phone. FOr the phone, you need to buy "Bluetooth GPS". This will use the phones GPS, and then export the readings over Bluetooth to a compatible device. To make the iPad compatible (jailbroke) you need to install "BTStack GPS"from Cydia - a $5 app that will allow GPS to be sent to application via an external source.
Thats pretty much it. It was trivial to get the Ipad to start importing the co-ordinates sent from the Android device (G1), and silently emulates a regular GPS chip well enough to run TomTom or Sygic satnav apps in full 10" glory. Motion GPS is now a native app and works real well.
Of course, this will also allow dedicated bluetooth GPS sources to work and not just android phones, but that's all i had at the time.
6000 baht saved, same capabilities.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

Downgrade True Service To Recieve An Upgrade.
2010-09-14 17:51:00
I've been deciding the past few weeks the 1 up/5 down service from True i've been getting for 999 baht is a little overkill, so finally I was in a position to get a lower service.
They have the 6mb promotion on right now for 599 baht, so i decided to go for that. It's only 512kbps upload, but to be honest, when i went for the 1/5 service, i never really saw any service degradation.
Anyways, the point of my post:
Upstream Speed 610 kbps (Interleave)
Downstream Speed 7071 kbps (Interleave)
Paying half the price for a 2mbit upgrade in dl speeds....You gotta love Thailand.

Another Snake Thread

Saw this guy in a tree outside my house. I'm surprised such a large snake can still be found in central(ish) Bangkok. He's about 30 feet up.
