#5229772 Having A Beer With Someone Then They Ask For Your Number

Posted BigJohnnyBKK on 2012-04-18 17:19:17

I don't think there's anything odd about it, and in fact think those who think it's odd are very odd, maybe it's a cultural or generational thing.

The day I stop being open to making new friends, checking out new places and experiences and learning new things, please, put a bullet right up the back of my head.

And even if I've had my fill of what life has to offer and feel like crawling into my cave and rolling the boulder in front, I hope I have the decency to be civil and offer a hand to someone who's brave enough to reach out and ask for it, even if he's just trying to make simple human contact.

For shame. . .

And yes, I am being judgemental, deal with it.

#5219452 What'S Your Biggest Achievement Here In Thailand

Posted Berkshire on 2012-04-15 09:26:12

Hmmmm.  It would seem to me that fathering a child is not much of an achievement.  Any idiot with some idle sperm can do it.  Now "raising" that child good and proper...that's something one can be proud of.  But the OP is not exactly doing that, is he?  My apologies if I misunderstood.

#5214122 Restaurants In Chiang Mai

As I have said many times in the past, Chiang Mai is in desperate need of an injection of vibrant new life.

I see Chiang Mai as only being but a shadow of it`s former self and what remains has been left to stagnant and to fall into decline.

I speak from experience as one of the longer-term ex-pats. I am sure that the dwindling tourists figures will back up my statement.

Many Thai people have told me that they believe this state of affairs is political and the downgrading of Chiang Mai as a tourist destination has been deliberate. My policeman son has told me that the granting of business licenses for new entertainment venues, such as bars, discos and restaurants have been highly restricted; so don’t expect to see any major new entertainment developments within the town soon.

For those that prefer the town and what’s already there just the way it is, that’s good because it`s either like it or lump it, as there is no other choices in Chiang Mai.

Over the years many of my family and friends from abroad that used visit Thailand each year are now giving Chiang Mai a miss when they come over and prefer to visit places like Phuket and more Southwards because they believe there is more to do and is better value. I have to agree with them.
You are always negative and don't have your facts straight. C.M. is vibrant and is growing like crazy. Ever taken a drive around to see all the new shopping centers, condominiums, krongan baans, restaurants, night clubs, etc. under major construction? Dwindling tourist numbers? Quite the opposite. Wealthy Korean, Japanese, and Chinese tourists are arriving by the many, many busloads and spending a lot of money here. Wealthy Thais from Bangkok have bought homes here and are spending quite a bit of time and money here. Thais from all over Thailand are coming on holiday. I can't even imagine how much money was made here during what - 3 months? of Royal Flora.

#5214710 Few Red-Shirts Cross Over For Thaksin

Posted Ricardo on 2012-04-13 09:46:44

Quote

"I want to return home, but have to wait for politics to return to normal and for the country to get a bit better," Thaksin said.

There have been two elections, and this is the fourth elected-government, since the end of the military- appointed government of PM-Sorayud. Indeed things were plainly good enough for him to return back in the summer of 2008.

But now he can't return, until the country is better, and politics are normal ?

I feel this is a little-harsh, on his clone-sister PM-Yingluck, and his loyal PTP/Red-Shirts in-power, that nine months on from the election, they still haven't succeeded in making the country a little bit better ?

Perhaps his standards or expectations are too high !

Or possibly there is another unspoken requirement, for him to end his self-exile, as many might suspect ? Posted Image

#5212702 Verdict On Jatuporn's Qualifications Due May 18

Posted Buchholz on 2012-04-12 15:16:58

Jatuporn loses his MP status on either of two counts.

He didn't vote by virtue of being under detention. By not voting, he was ineligible to run for office.

He also lost his party membership, making him ineligible to become an MP.

---------------------------------------------------
Count 1

Section 106(4) of the Constitution states:
Membership of the House of Representatives terminates upon being disqualified under Section 101 of the Constitution

Section 101 of the Constitution lists various qualifications to be an MP. The applicable paragraph is Section 101(3) which requires an MP be a member of a political Party.

We then go to the Organic Act on Political Parties of 1998.
Section 22 of the Organic Act lists conditions in which membership in a political party terminates. The applicable paragraph is Section 22(3) which lists anyone being disqualified by Section 21.

Section 21 of the Organic Act states:
A person who will be a member must be of Thai nationality by birth, not less than eighteen years of age and not under any of the prohibitions to disfranchisement under the Constitution.

Which leads back to the Constitution.

Section 100 of the Constitution lists prohibitions to disfranchisement (meaning someone who is not allowed to vote).

The applicable paragraph is Section 100(3) states that anyone under detention by court order. This is the situation that Jatuporn was in.

He was jailed in pre-trial confinement after his bail was revoked for violating the bail conditions.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Count 2

He didn't vote... He lost his right to be a candidate as per # 2 below:

The Constitution stipulates the following:

"Every person shall have a duty to exercise his or her right to vote in an election. The person who fails to vote on an election day without notifying the reasonable cause for such failure shall lose his or her right to vote as prescribed by the law.

The notification of the cause for failure to vote on an election day and the provision of facilities for attendance thereat shall be in accordance with the provision of the law".

The person who fails to vote without notifying the reasonable cause for such failure will have his or her political rights curtailed until his or her next vote casting in an election as follows:

The National Elections
1. The right to object the results of both the national and local elections
2. The right to be a candidate for any election
3. The right to initiate a bill for the National Assembly's consideration
4. The right to initiate an ordinance for the local assembly's consideration
5. The right to petition to the Senate for the resolution of removal of a high ranking person
6. The right to recall a member of the local assembly or a local administrator

Only if we can in turn sue you for the psychological damage caused by reading this  post.

>>the Americans use this tactic to torture people in Guantanamo Bay

There is no torture occurring at Guantanamo Bay.  There have been allegations of torture, but nothing has been substantiated.

Having to wade thru the drival spewed forth on Thaivisa is more tantamount to torture than loud music could ever be.

There are a lot of dreamers posting here who won't face up to the fact that Thaksin is running the country in a far more effective manner than the Democrats did. The concrete results that his party are able to deliver make the Democrats look sick in comparison. We have already seen implementation of many of PTPs election promises, and at the same time drastic measures introduced to deal with the flooding problem, which the Democrats did absolutely nothing about. In the near future we will see the start of the tablet program and high speed rail along with many other policies to improve the lives of the Thai people. The sooner he returns to lead the country the better off the country will be. There will be the inevitable bleating and protests from the yellows, but now that the reds are well organised and highly mobile they will marginalize any attempt to create unrest. Once Thaksin has again proven himself to be by far the best leader available his misguided detractors will quickly diminish.

Quote    ...We have already seen implementation of many of PTPs election promises, .......

- 300Baht minimum wage for all, surely bought  a lot of votes, not yet implemented, confusion still abounds and the pm has openly said that it could be 3 years before some people see it, in other words doing more damage than good in terms of income gap

- 15,000Baht minimum start salary, surely bought  a lot of votes, not yet implemented, total confusion still abounds. Lots of unprofessional attempts by raising allowances etc to some salaries just made it all worse

- Tablets for school kids, surely bought  a lot of votes, not yet implemented, total confusion still abounds and it's possible the early issues will have operating software which hasn't been properly designed etc. Still confusion about internet services etc., and even worse, many teachers have very little It or software knowledge and don't know how to integrate the tablets into learning and no .sign of any training for the teachers.

- Food prices, pork, eggs guaranteed to be controlled and kept low, surely bought a lot of votes, prices now out of control and quite high

- Lots of knee jerk reaction to the floods, fast announcements of flood walls etc, but no research or national planning , but real big budgets for the sticky fingers.

- No announcements whatever about education reform

- No announcements whatever about policy to really make serious inroads into reducing the income gap and get a large % of Thais way above the survival line

- Cancellation of the free medical scheme..................... with the poor now having to pay

Yep, real progress

As you are a realist who recognises that Thaksin is running the country while banned from political activity (not to mention a fugitive criminal with a possible death sentence still pending), you will certainly NOT whine when the Electoral Court disbands PTP and slaps another 5 year ban on Thaksin. You wouldn't want to be accused of double standards would you?

#5091364 Chalerm Files Defamation Suit Against Four Newspapers On Drunk Allegation

Of course it is bullying, but how on earth can anyone claim that there is a right to sue the newspapers for defamation??????????

These types of laws that exist here annoy the hell out of me, because they actively serve to keep the status quo to the detriment of society at large, but NO political party of any political persuasion will EVER change them.  Why I can guess, but is there NO ONE who cares about making the system better in this country?
one  can sue when a story is intentionally misleading. Read the original stories. The newspapers have a duty to check their facts. Are you even aware of what the  accusation is based upon?   One Democrat MP shouted out an allegation.
The Democrats then went looking through the trash(a possibly illegal act if done on the House property  without a search warrant as it was the "property" of the house).
The Democrats made the assumption it belonged to Chalerm. What exactly did they find?
Democrat list MP Boonyod Sukthinthai showed photos of 20 bottles of soda water, two small bottles of spirits and five bottles of wine cooler drinks.
That's an awful lot of soda water. How many people were at this alleged meeting? 5 people? 10 people? 20 people? That is an important part of the story.
What we have is an unsubstantiated allegation and the manner that it was reported was intended to embarass and to defame the Deputy PM.
Whistling past the graveyard again I see.
