Petanque/Boules

2011-07-27 15:44:46

At the River Kok Leisure Park, Koh Loy is an area set aside for Petangue, alternative name Boules (cannot understand why  2 French derived names). The leisure Park is where we've had Pot Luck gatherings.
Each evening there is quite a crowd of Thai characters on the piste (that's what they call the area of gravel that the metal balls are aimed about on).

How about some of us getting together for some hard practice, early morning is good as no others there to view our initial embarrasing efforts and it's cooler. The Thais are good! so we need a lot of practice, which will be good fun.
I have a set of 6 balls, I think they have them for sale at the new Sports Store at Central, but for now happy to share mine.

So let's get some founder members of the Thaivisa Petanque Club.  Contact me by PM or post comments and suggestions, maybe alterative venue for practicing.
I'll email some other Crai contacts too.

Songkran Festival

2011-04-12 12:46:05

I heard this morning that there was a Songkran happening at Suan Tong, so I went to have a look.
As I approached the area along Thanalai Road on my motorcycle I saw a few kids with small buckets and a mysterious fine water mist in the air, so I went on through, as I did this many water sprinklers came on. Luckily I had my phone and camera in a poly bag, so here are a couple of shots of some more victims. WARNING: it's to be a watery mayhem there later in the day.
Maybe other members can post their Songkran antics over the next few days..

Baking Flour

2011-02-23 20:58:24

I have just got into doing my own baking and I'm a bit mistified by what flour to buy.
In BigC in Chiang Rai they have Cake Flour and All Purpose Flour, are either of these self raising???  If not then I should add Baking Powder 1 tbsp to I cup. I don't want to do this if the flour contains a raising agent already. I haven't seen the self raising label on any packets. Maybe problem as all the writing is in Thai.
Please advise me somebody.

To Mrs Lman - "Where'S Me Trewsers?"

2011-01-09 11:56:30

Over Christmas I received two very comfortable pairs of trews from the mrs, you know the sort that you tie from a couple of cords around the back . Well last week I gave her 500 bt to buy two more. Yesterday she came back with a heavy poly bag and said,
"That 500 bt you gave me, I got a pig's head with it."

It's all about receiving blessings for the New Year, TIT he thinks extracting another 500 from the wallet .
With great trepidation I await what might be served up for lunch. Well, there is some fruit too.
                 Happy New Year everyone.
