About Me

Former Marine, former grad school professor, now a businessman living, working, and enjoying Thailand. A former accomplished jock (rugby, pentathalon, wrestling, golf, marathons, equestrian events), I still hit the gym three times a week for weights and hit the tennis court at least once a week.

I read, write (just published my first novel), cook, watch movies, travel (over 100 countries and counting), take photographs, and enjoy the company of my friends.

I first came to Thailand in 1982 with the Marines, then came back in 2000 to start a business. I bought a condo and came to live here full-time in 2007. I am an American, and I love the US, but I love Thailand, too, and I fit in well here. I will probably live here for the rest of my life.

My nik actually says a lot about me. Despite my years as a Marine and service in war, and despite my fierce competitive drive in sports, I am actually quite peaceful and don't want to cause anyone pain or problems. �The bonobo, human's closest relative, lives a very peaceful, non-aggressive life (unlike their close cousins, the chimp) where copulation is perhaps the most important thing to be pursuing. To quote the Scientific American, "The species is best characterized as female-centered and egalitarian and as one that substitutes sex for aggression." So they really the champions of "Make love, not war!"

Whilst I don't entirely disagree with the 2nd comment, it is abundantly clear to me that 'stupidity' lies on both sides of the coin. That is, a foreigner falling in love with the 1st or 2nd (or whatever) bargirl that he meets & then giving everything to this person.

Who is to be treated like a child? The idiot foreigner or the smart bargirl?

The bargirl wins a few thousand bath a month from a lowlife, gets to bang an ugly fat guy every night, washes his toilet, cooks for him.

the lowlife loses his virginity, his very small bank account and has dignity for a few months of his life.

The farang clearly wins in this. Back home he'd have saved a little money(lets face it anyone with a good salary in the west can find someone interested in money there that is a 6 or 7/10) but he'd die a virgin and alone.

Now after losing his money he can start over with more confidence and hopefully he'll grow out of his lowlife to a wonderfull life. She,ll still be a whore paying for her khao pat by opening her legs to oldmen

You go into a bar geared towards the farang and the first thing that happens is an unattractive woman attempts to converse with you in order to size you up as a potential mark asking you a series of questions in order to gauge your naivety and desperation. And you are supposed to be paying for this experience? You would have to pay me to sit in one of these bars, yet somehow it is the thriving lifeblood of Thailand's tourist industry?

Very true - many an older guy with Isarn tourist industry worker can't even communicate with their wives.

Another thing - whe I am 75, I'd hope that I would stop thinking of myself and got rid of selfishness, self-centrednes,self....
I feel like asking the dottery old fool in Big C with his somtam seller and her two kids, who he's buying all the toys in the shop for, what exactly does his REAL grandkids think of Granda's selfishness and desertion.

When I'm 75 I can assure you that ME is ALL I'll be thinking about.  I'm sure at that age I would have earned the right to do so.

What you think when you are 75 is completely a matter for you and I wouldn't dare tell you what you should be doing with yourself at that age.

What makes you holier than thou to think his grandkids have been deserted?  He may have been deserted by his self centred wife who took off with a man half her age.  He may not have grandkids, he may never have been married.  Is your life so dull and boring that you have to pass judgment on others?

I'm 47, never married, no children.  I intend to keep it that way and I'm sure as hel_l going to enjoy myself with any woman I dam_n well please regardless of what YOU think.
