#5302378 Turkish Baths Or Similar In Bangkok

When tramping around Syria I went to a Hammam and had the full on treatment where I was scrubbed to within an inch of my life by a retired wrestler, and thought it was quite a good experience.

You won't get that in BKK unless a Soi 4 entrapeneur has started that business up already.

Having said that, you might want to try the Grand Tower Inn on Sukhumvit 55 (Thonglor), it is just near the BTS, on the north west corner of the Thonglor Sukhumvit intersection.

It isn't exactly what you want, but they have steam baths, hot pools and a plunge pool from memory, and (about 8 years ago) the entrance price was very cheap.

As intimated, I haven't been there is an while but let me know how it goes.

Funny you say that Samran.

I was in Istanbul a few years ago and thought I'd try a Turkish steam bath and massage.

Its fair to say I had certain expectations in mind.

However, when a huge hairy Turkish man walked in and started massaging me in a rather aggressive manner, needless to say, my expectations were far from met. It was not a pleasant experience.

Never again.

I have no respect for rich Thai people. Their money stinks of corruption , exploitation , and all sorts of illegal activities .

A classic example of pure, unadulterated, in-your-face jealousy of the most retarded kind.  Pretty pathetic, really.

So how much and what do you have to do for your child to dodge the draft if you do not want him to enter the elite thai military programs once he hits the age of conscription....

Lor Dor if you plan ahead, full-time university student when the time comes, leave Thailand and come back after they're 30 when all else fails, etc.

If you really plan ahead, only have girls. Posted Image

Foreigner concerns about discrimination here are often trivial compared to what Thai nationals have to deal with in form of skin shade requirements, unreasonably restrictive age range requirements etc. for employment.

A couple of my Thai friends have asked me why Oxford (and other UK universities) charges 3x - 5x as much for non-EU (including Thai) students... the answer of course is that they need an extra income to survive given the strict limits that are set on their prices for EU students

I wonder if all the British citizens (I'm sure there is a parallel for other expat nationalities) who complain on TV about being charged a few extra baht to visit tourist attractions once per year would feel about a massive hike in UK tax (or maybe a reduction in their pensions) to subsidise a non-discriminatory pricing structure at UK universities (regardless of nationality)...

Price discrimination is often essential to profit maximisation (and in the case of UK universities their survival depends on it)... it is simply a matter of (high-school) economics and anyone who is against it is (probably unwittingly) against the concept of profit (and hence the system of capitalism that has transported us from the dark ages)...

Sorry for the rant but people are totally misunderstanding this if they think prices are set based on the racial / nationality preferences of a business (or its management)

This is (very mild and harmless) racism against Thais (not against non-Thais); this business is simply trying to implement price discrimination (a perfectly reasonable policy).

However, they are making a strange and (very slightly racist) assumption that Thai people will only pay a lower price, due (solely) to their nationality.

If anyone thinks a (profit maximising) business offers discounts to a certain group because they prefer that group they need to read some high-school economics textbooks.

If I was Thai I would (very slightly) offended to receive such an SMS; as a non-Thai I cannot see any issue

I am not upset with the sms per say... I am upset that i should pay more than the next Guy.....................  because I am not Thai.. bottom line!

But you don't have to pay anything... you are talking about a business... if you don't feel their pricing structure represents good value for money for you then do not purchase goods or services from them... are you also offended by student discounts?

On a serioous note, the Aussies must be desperate, there are NO standards in this country. Thousands will die in Australia from collapsing buildings, bad electrical installation etc.

The amount of racism and hatred on this forum is staggering. You would think think a forum about Thailand, based IN Thailand, would bring together people who either live here or appreciate what Thailand has to offer.
Instead it's a forum full of haters.
Mostly bitter, old men, I presume.

It's a shame Samran and Berkshire couldn't find the arguments to really come back on this topic.

Their sole reasoning was that people who think Thai Comedy to be unoriginal and quite unfunny was solely due to the fact that they "couldn't understand it" has indeed fallen rather flat.

I know Samran is a Look Kreung but I'll wager Berkshire has to ask his wife to buy his bog roll....

I'm debating with a guy who reckons a person is 'hi-so' if they earn more than 300 baht a day and don't work in a field.

That says more about you than it does about him...

You'd be right there. Am I supposed to be offended?

But then again, I don't go around misquoting and misrepresenting peoples arguments.

#5240713 Purchasing Laws In Thailand

Posted GentlemanJim on 2012-04-22 15:53:18

There is a Thai credit and consumer act and there is a full translation of it in English somewhere, when I have more time I will search it out again. Most shop owners or retailers are completely unaware of what is stated in the act, and when I have quoted the act and my knowledge of it to difficult retailers they submit without any further hassle.

It is a nause, but you need to politely but VERY firmly let the retailer understand his customer service responsibility should persuade him to assist you   otherwise neither you, nor your family or friends will purchase anything from them again or recommend others to do the same. Best of luck.

For my 10p worth.

My advice to any Falang is to rent rather than buy in Thailand. Some kind posters told me it was not a good idea to buy until you realise how and why things work the way they do in Thailand. It has proved excellent advice so far. Although I am still in England at the moment finalising my business.

I try not to involve myself in the Politics of the UK, let alone Thailand, I swear allegance to the Queen Elizabeth II, but also the the King of Thailand, by virtue of my Wife and Son, but I have no wish to involve myself in political affairs.

Buy property and car ownership forces you to become involved in political affairs because like it or not, things will not be straight forward and before long, you will be seeking a change to a law that works against you and that is when you start to resent the new country you have just moved to.

Simply rent a house and hire a car or moped. If you dont like it you can leave at the drop of a hat and thank them for their hospitality.

I would like to add a big thank you to those enlightened posters and moderators who have certainly helped me and opened my eyes. Thank you.

What an utterly absurd post.   Could you please explain how buying a car gets you involved in the political affairs of Thailand?
