As an update for anyone else interested in this subject I arrived at the Immigration building at 13:10 and walked out with my visa extension 40 minutes later at 13:50.

I spent more time in the taxis going there and back than I did in the immigration building. I had all the correct documentation and copies required before I went which probably helped me save a few minutes.

All lights were flashing normally on my router during this outage which suggests to me the problem was upstream.

Traceroutes showed a complete stoppage within the TOT network. The trace got about 5 hops in - then it just stopped responding to anything.

In case anyone's interested it's just started working again.

I'd like to know what the multiple hour outage was all about though if anyone has any information on it.

I'm not sure how many days they counted the deaths over but I'd like to know how this compares to other periods of the year with the same number of days.

For example if it covered a period of 4 days - I wonder what the average death toll is over 4 day periods throughout the year compared to the Songkran fatalities.

I suspect a lot of people die on the roads every week regardless of whether it's Songkran or not.

This many people is the equivalent of a major air disaster.
