Candyman, while I don't like pedos too - I think that your idea of taking the law into your own hands is very dangerous.  What if the person that you pick-up actually was innocent - there is no way for you to know.

While it must be sickening for these guys to beat charges on some technicality - I think you are just as bad as them if not worse for believing that you have the right to inflict your own punishment on others.

Get a life, leave justice to the experts - nobody appointed you to do this - you make me sick.

The OP seems a bit fishy to me   - but stranger things have happened in LOS.  I used to catch the train to Penang every 90 days to avoid the immigration police because back in the late 80's and early 90's schools in BKK were being raided on occasions (or so the illegal teachers were told).  I worked in several school and also freelance in Pakkret and Nonthaburi - because at some schools - the owner or manager would sometimes withhold wages with the excuse that he had to pay off the police.  I'm glad things changed and many people are now working legit.  Also in those days we didn't have services such as ThaiVisa.com to get advice about immigration.

It would be very useful to provide some more details on the court, judge, legal reps, and jail - maybe this is a wake up call or simply some overstayer mouthing off at the Thai authorities and paying the price!

Most holiday destinations have rip-offs and scams that are targeted at tourists.  In Australia I heard that there were bus tours full of Japanese tourists that would result in prices being inflated.  Most people don't care, only if it affects them will they do something.

I know that in some parts of Thailand these scams appear to be out of hand - but the Thais know that the cheap family holidays are on everyone's mind - and even after being ripped off, Phuket is still cheap for many people compared to a quality holiday in Europe.

For the single male traveler, especially those with fetishes for young Asian boys or girls - they will continue to come to Phuket and Thailand for their 'special adventures' - not many places in the world are cheaper and easier for these people, with no questions asked.

I'd probably tell him to stick it too!  But I also agree with the post that questions why pay sin sod for a divorcee anyway.  From my limited understanding sin sod was to compensate the family for raising the daughter and any loss of income that the family will suffer from her leaving them - similar to a bar fine in a way!!  The divorcee and sin sod is just double dipping - they have already been paid - and in reality you are probably saving them money.

I married a middle class educated thai woman - I paid for the wedding party and some small gifts - a new kitchen - but that was also to make my life easier when I stayed there - never any asking for regular payments or cash advances.  If you marry into a family that is money hungry - you will be bled dry - if you marry into a genuine caring family that values their relationships more than the baht then you may feel inclined to help if needed - but not every month to support an old piss head without the baht for the booze.

Very weird case.  The immigration department of a country is tasked to ensure that only legitimate visas are granted, and that all illegitimate visas are denied.  While she may have some human rights claims they do not force an embassy to issue a visa to enter the UK.
