In Topic: Best Area To Stay In Penang For A Week

There's lots of pubs and nightclubs open till the wee hours.  I went to this one once Soho Pub Georgetown - looks like it stays open till midnight.  I'm sure there's many more.  We live out towards the north of the island so don't venture into Georgetown in the evenings much.  There's certainly tons of places to eat and drink along Gurney Drive... and Straits Quay in Tg Pinang.... and in Tg Bungah village (Ingolf's Kneipe pub is always packed).... and in Batu Ferringhi.  Lots of choice depending on where you are staying.

Obviously depends what you want to spend, but friends say that the G Hotel in Gurney Drive (next to Gurney Plaza) is very nice.  You can just walk from there to loads of eateries, foodcourts etc.  It's also just a nice walk along Gurney Drive.  I am also told that the buses (Rapid Penang) are very good and frequent if you don't wish to use taxis.  We're living here now and it's a great place.  Enjoy!

Thanks for that .... that's excellent.  We're actually going to be staying overnight at Rua Rasada so may take a look in Tops as we'll be there anyhow.  Noted re Krabi.  Good advice.  Cheers.

Thanks Peter, Pete.

So, Peterocket, where do we find locally sourced beer and wine then?

Can anyone advise what the situation is like in the south of island eg the essentials.... beer, wine  water.  How is Villa Market at Chalong stocked?  I note some of the posts on here are a week or so old.  An update would be appreciated.

We're driving up from Malaysia shortly.  Just wondering whether to stock up on few things just over the border... or even bring in from Malaysia - bizarre idea I know, but no-one ever looks in car at border anyway.  Any thoughts guys?
