I asked around in Pantip Plaza/BKK about a certain camera model I intend to buy.
The price quoted at "AV Center" was about 4000 Baht cheaper than the official fixed "mall price" (approx 16000 B ).
But the Pantip camera has "in house" guarantee only.
So here comes my question: is it worth to pay 4000 Baht more and better buy at some of the more fancy shops? Would I get international guarantee then?
Or shall I just go for the cheapest?
"AV Center" seems to have some positive comments in the net. But will I get a new camera, not a refurbished one or something?
What do you think? Too risky?

How Full Is Hua Hin/Cha Am?
2011-10-19 17:31:31
I live in Bangkok, but I'm thinking to move to Hua Hin for a 1-2 weeks due to the flooding here.
Not sure if this is a good idea, are hotels easily available or do they make use of the situation and demand ridiculous prices?
What do you think? Better hold on in BKK or move now as long it is still possible?

Thyroid Hormones Blood Test

I need to have a routine blood test for thyroid hormones in Bangkok, just T3, T4 and TSH.
Any idea where I can have this cheaply (how much about?) and without much hassles? Don't need a consultation, as I know what to look for.
Recommendations appreciated!

Bring My Hi-End Loudspeakers From Home
2011-07-03 11:42:59
At my home country, I have some nice Italian made hi-end speakers. Originally I paid around 3000€ for a pair. They are about 10 years old and have a few scratches.
They are not so big and fit into a single box of approx. 20 kg.
So I thought I might just bring them with me when I travel home next time. Would fit into my accompanied luggage, travelling business class.
But I worry about customs rip-off at Suvannaphum. Yes, I may be lucky and they would not care. But if they look up the (new) value, they might charge customs/VAT on it?
What do you guys think? Better leave them at home and buy some stuff here locally?

Apple Id / Itunes Store Thailand
2011-06-25 23:16:39
I never bought any SW or other media at the App store. What I ever downloaded was free.
I have an Apple-ID with a fake name and fake address in USA. Not for any scam, but just to protect my privacy. The ID is not connected to any credit card.
Now it is time I want to buy something and I have to enter credit card information. This is probably not possible with my old ID, even if I change my name to the correct one. I cannot change the country - so I must stay with an US address, I believe?
My idea is to get a new Apple ID with correct name/address and link it to my European credit card.
But as I live in Thailand, and the billing address of the credit card is Bangkok, I worry if I will be restricted to some Thai-only limited Apple store.
So what to do? How do you expats manage this problem?
