Sukumvit In Bangkok To Kanchanaburi

2012-05-07 14:57:21

Hi All,

I'm currently staying on Sukhumvit Soi 29 in Bangkok and i'd like to drive over to Kanchanburi tomorrow afternoon for a few days by the river.

I've been staring at Google Maps for the last 30 mins trying to work out what would be the fastest rourte but there's quite a few unknowns in there for me.

Can someone recommend the quickest route from their experience of the journey?

Many thanks,

Tom.

Fly Fishing Locations And Species In Thailand

2012-04-22 13:48:50

It would be good to have a thread running that listed some of the better places to fly fish in Thailand - maybe also getting some info on what patterns work for what fish there.

I currently live in Jomtien and i'm sick to death of the shitty fishing parks here - I really want to get out into the countryside and fish some more natural rivers.

I'm off to Kanchanaburi next week to get started, hoping to find some find some decent fly fishing somewhere in the province (which I believe is very possible)

Can anybody help out with some locations? Anything would be a start as there is almost no info available on this at all on the internet...

Cheers,

Tom.

Pattaya R/C Fishing Park

2012-04-18 11:27:18

Yesterday I took a trip up to the Pattaya R/C Fishing Park to have a look and see if it was any good.

It turned out that the lake that calls itself a fishing park is not much more than a large puddle, and not very friendly staff as well.

Anyway, on the way out we started to nose around a bit.... The big lake that the boats race on is a fine bit of water. There were quite a few big fish topping in there and overall it would make a cracking fishing lake but nody was fishing it.

But when we started to look a bit closer there was a couple of fishing breeding tanks in there. One had a massive Arapaima in it along with some Asian Redtail catfish and other fish that I didn't recongise, the other one had allot of water flowing around and you couldn't see what was in it. A further small tank on the floor had a small massive prawn things in there. There were a few small fishing rods setup that looked like were used on the big lake but nobody was fishing.

Then we found the Thailand Softip Darts Association headquarters - it was staffed by a woman lying on the floor playing with her phone. Near there there was a room with a pool table. Across from that there were a few expensive cars with covers on - looked like they were in storage.

Up the hill a bit was a basic fishing tackle shop that also seemed to sell mountain bikes. Beyond that were some basic cabins that looked like they could be rented. There appeared to be a restaurant of sorts in there as well.

Later in the day yesterday I caught it's name being mentioned in an advert being played on a Thai language radio station in 7/11. My Thai wasn't good enough to make out the whole add but they were actively promoting the place.

I'm really curious to know more about the place. Obviously it's the home of the Pattaya Radio Controlled Boat Club but it appears to be quite a bit more than that, maybe a rich Thai guys playground, so to speak? Does anybody know what the deal is there?

I'd love to fish the big lake - does anybody know if it's possible? The fishing parks in Pattaya are terrible on the whole, the big lake would make a very welcome addition!

Cheers,

Tom.

3G Coverage Maps

2012-04-18 09:40:05

Hi,

Does anybody have up to date links for 3G coverage around Thailand?

I'm off to Kanchanaburi province for a weeks fishing - I'd like to know if there was any 3G coverage up there. I have DTAC at the moment - i'm wondering if it might be worth getting AIS or True as well.

I'm probably dreaming but it can't hurt to ask...

Many thanks,

Tom.
