Blockades of major intersections in shopping areas should be OK, shouldn't they?

Only if the promise to burn down the areas when they leave... we don't want any double standards here, do we?

#5341065 'Time To Scrap Party-Dissolution Rule': Interview

Why bother twisting others' words for a childish attempt to score points? I said 'you can't blame someone for playing by the rules', which for the intellectually challenged who can't interpret it doesn't mean that I support corruption but simply acknowledge its presence.

Try to understand that the rules forbid corruption, but most players attempt to ignore/subvert those rules. Your logically flawed argument is that one person shouldn't be challenged for breaking those rules, but to stop corruption you have to start with one person. Therefore, by opposing a start to ending it, you are supporting corruption.

Democratically elected government intends to have cases heard by an independent court: NOT ACCEPTABLE
Decision taken by a court, set up by an illegal coup: ACCEPTABLE
Anybody with a brain larger than a sparrow would understand that this government has NO intention of letting any cases involving the Shinawatra family or the red leaders get anywhere near a court, if they can help it. As a PTP MP said the other day "we can't control the courts." And they have rejected Thaksin's bribes, which makes the results very unpredictable.

The one on the left was was sentenced to two years in prison after a Junta appointed Assets Examination Committee was set up especially to find something to charge him with.
He was also sentenced to two years in prison after his own party took power, after he declared he trusted in the justice system and would respect whatever verdict they arrived at, and after he, via his lawyers, attempted to bribe the judges and failed.

Be fair. Once his attempt to bribe the judges failed no doubt his statement about his faith in the justice system would have become 'inoperative'

Well, from the answers so far I decided that it was probably the internal fan which was causing the problem, so this afternoon I went into Tukcom Pattaya. I explained the situation to several of the repair shops on the third floor asking how much, how long etc. to clean and replace/repair a faulty fan. Most of the shops wanted 500 to 800 baht for cleaning and 1000 to 1800 to replace the fan. One shop said he wouldn't be able to replace the fan because it's an old model, and he would clean the computer and repair the fan for 800 baht all in. All the other shops said they had a replacement fan in stock (or could get one) if needed. I'm thinking that the shop who quoted 800 all in is my favourite at the moment. Any opinions?

My 5 year old Lenovo exhibited fan noise earlier this year. I procrastinated a little bit and finally ordered a new fan after a couple of weeks. Before it arrived the CPU blew up and my hard disc became irretrievable. My C Drive was backed up to the prior week luckily, but its still a couple days solid to get a new machine back with all your spec, favourites and settings (unless you are of a technical bent and can restore intact from one machine to another). Do whichever is quickest (but then maybe get a new one, unless you are disciplined enough to back up regularly.

Yes it was great to see that lap from Schumacher, a real trip down memory lane,   but did you have to spoil your post reminding me of that stalling "incident."    He deserved to be lumped for that one!

I wonder if and when he reviews what has been a glittering career he would wish he could scrub out certain actions that have left indelible black marks against his otherwise phenominal driving?

Anyway it seems like the Mercedes is quick and he still has it in him so for me atleast this generates a lot more interest.   Like him or not,  its amazing that he still has the abilities to go toe to toe in this sport with guys half his age.

Yes RIP. Your theory is as valid as the asthma one. I find it offensive that the press here always lists dead people's medications as if that really means anything.

Would you prefer for you Jing they comment on your last meal?.....and before he slipped on the wet tiles he had consumed.....at a very reasonable price, in an air conditioned, but not too crowded restaurant, where the service was efficient, delivered with a smile, if a little on the slow side

Let's not blame the Thai people for the sins of Hitler who "borrowed" an ancient symbol for his own use.
I blame people for ignorance, be they Thai or otherwise.

Reminds me of the craze a short while after the World Trade Centre attack of people wearing t-shirts with Osama Bin Laden's face. Perhaps that was more to do with insensitivity and stupidity though.

I recall being absolutely gobsmacked after 9-11 to see a family walking down the street in KK and both the kids ( boys aged about 11 and 8 ) had matching t-shirts with a print of the twin towers on fire and the words "Bye Bye" printed across the bottom.
Beggar's belief , it really does. Can't think how they could possibly have trivialised the tragedy any more. What is going through their minds?!

That's what confused me. That there wasn't the slightest 1% inkling in the parent's mind, not even a glimmer, that "Hang on minute. Is this really a good idea?"

Are you actually saying you support corruption?

Can't blame someone for playing the game by the rules

Yes you can.  Just because it's "by the rules" doesn't mean it's by the law.

Given that you actually support corruption, it doesn't surprise me with all the other crap and lies that you spout.

You should look at the Nissan Almeira..........or is it too big for your needs
I'd second that. Some of the cars on the OP's list are frighteningly small - no offense to any Brio owners on the forum but seriously! The Almera is the same size as my Honda City and after taking one for a test drive, it's a testament to what can be accomplished with good design and modern engineering.
I agree with the OP regarding outrageous second-hand car prices - I looked at the Toyota Sure website and there is a 2006 Toyota Vios with over 140,000km for 418k - you couldn't make it up. Anyone even considering that over an Almera needs to take a good, long look at themselves in the mirror.

#5330919 Red Leader Takes Dig At 'Egotistic' Thaksin

After a lot of reading, I don't see much to change my opinion.

I feel the same way after reading your post.  A lot of words saying little and a lot of lame excuses trying to prop up Thaksin's fable that he is not part of the elite and is a self made man.  It is a fact that he is a man born in to immense wealth and social power, descended from the hereditary rulers of the Kingdom of Chiangmai and part of an extremely influential and powerful family.  His father was a member of parliament, a position he secured because he was a wealthy member of the elite.  Thaksin raised his clan from millionaire to billionaire precisely because of his connections within the elite, connections he had access to because of who he was.  All of these doors would have been closed to him if he had been a normal person.  He has both supporters and opponents among the elite and opposition to him isn't based on who he is, he is undoubtedly part of the elite, but what he is and what he has done.  He hasn't changed anything, rather he is strengthening the rule of the elites and bending the other elites to his own will.  Which is precisely why I refer to all these naive red shirts like the guy in the OP as useful idiots, because that is all that they are to Thaksin.  They are useful tools that he uses to cement his own political position.  Now that they are no longer useful they will be discarded.  They may moan and whine a bit but without access to Thaksin's checkbook they have no power and will be ignored by almost everyone.

Can Yingluk survive or does she become excess baggage to the power mungers and certain deputies
The reds seem divided and in a confused state, they voted and nothing changed
This is a power struggle the poor vers the rich elite and it seems the latter are still running things

I can't help but feel something is about to burst and it won't be pretty
I went to a PTP local meeting 2 days ago in Surin, and the local faction are well aware of Thaksin.I was pleasantly surprised at at their understanding of everything going on.
We're all "well aware" of Thaksin. If you're saying that they are well aware that he is meglomaniacal thief, then why are they members of PTP?

Right on.  He and his family are only the 19th richest in Thailand.  Not many above them!

I think you don't understand how a "class" system works.  One of the very reasons  that Thaksin got himself into this position is that he wasn't an accepted part of the existing upper class elite in this country.  You have to be granted entry, play by the rules, become part of the woodwork, appear to serve the country and work in the interests of the elite to be part of the upper class elite.  It is a very cosy club, and money is not the only arbiter of entry.

If you don't, you find yourself, very quickly find yourself in Dubai.  No amount of cash can buy instant acceptance at the top, not in Thailand, nor other parts of the world with similar systems.  He is at best "Hi-so", not upper class.

Maybe you're unfamiliar with Thaksin's family background.  He doesn't play it up because he likes to pretend to be some kind of self made man.  He was born in to wealth and power, both socially and financially.  Thaksin is descended from the Na Chiang Mai family on his mother's side, the former rulers of the Kingdom of Chiangmai.  Thaksin is part of the elite upper class, you can not get much more elite than him.  That is why Thaksin's father was able to secure a seat in parliament in Chiang Mai, and why Thaksin was so easily able to enter politics later on.

I feel so sorry for this woman. There is true pain in her and then the PTP assemble a compensation ceremony that resembles a lotto or charity event. Absolute shame on them. If they have been paid 7.5 Million why is the cheque for 3.25 Million? The sad fact of the matter is that just as this woman's poor daughter died because of the selfish ego of a megalomaniac, she herself now suffers at the hands of the megalomaniac's sister who sticks the final knife in with another display of absolute selfishness and to top it all a party that tries to score political advantage with a photo shoot. I am unsure how much lower Thai politics can sink. Disgusting!

Perhaps she could apologise for a few other absences while she's at it.
Absence from parliament would be a good start.
Even better, absence of honesty and credibility for the transparent "I had a prior arrangement" BS
