Bad New House, Leaky Roof.

2012-05-07 09:49:38

We have bought a new shop-house but the seller is not taking any responsibility for repairing bad workmanship/faults. We told her that the roof leaked and gave her a list of faults. She sent in a worker who made some attempt to fit a few things, but not done properly. The roof has leaks and she wont repair it. What is the law if any? Can we take her to law? Is she legally responsible?
We bought the place five months ago and have only been living here for about three months.Attached File  slide.001.jpg   882.84K   80 downloads

Can My 4Yo Thai/English Child Own Land House

2011-11-27 21:32:06

Would it be possible for me to buy my 4 year old Thai /English child a house and land? If it is possible, would I be able to manage the child's estate until they reach the age of consent?
Would I also be able to lease the house back from the child?

The Greek Debt!

2011-11-04 16:18:38

There’s a great deal of speculating as to what will happen if the Greeks default on there debt.

But surly if the Greeks don’t want to accept the 50% right down deal put forward by Europe and decide to leave the Euro and who knows even the European Union.

That won’t make any difference, the fact remains they owe a great deal of money.  It’s then the problem for the banks to enforce repayment, or recover the debt in the best way they can. Is this not the normal way banks do business?

Surly the banks didn’t lend them money that they can't recover. If they have, then I would call it reckless and the banks (not the people) should get them selves out of trouble.

Many people think that when they put money into their bank account it’s safe. That some how the bank will give you your money back, should you ask for it. But in fact this is far from the truth. When you place your money in the bank, it’s a loan to the bank, should they lose it they have no real obligation to give it back to you, maybe they lent to much to someone ( like the Greek Government). You must then seek to recover your loan to the bank in the best way you can. But remember, if they lose it all you may not be able to recover it. Yes I know you are going to say that the banks must hold in deposit xyz, and that the governments insist you should be able to withdraw what you deposit, or most of it. But the fact is you could lose everything.

So what to do, its a bit of a conundrum. I only keep a very small amount of money in the bank for day to day running, eg paying a couple of standing orders for power and water.

I own every thing I have and owe no one. The banks hate people like me, as they make nothing out of me, no debt = no interest = no profit for the bank.

Ie'd place Bank Managers, Lawyers, and Second Hand Car Dealers in the same boat, then sink it.

Bad Choice.

Money to burn, easy when it's not yours.

A school I work at here in Thailand, has recently installed 42inch flat screen TVs and computers into the classrooms. The idea being that lessons could be placed on to the TV instead of having to be written on to the white board, saving the teacher time.

However the screens are so small that the amount of readable material  that can be shown at any one time, makes this almost useless and nothing more that a toy. It looks good but if you are unlucky and end up at the back of the class, you will need a pair of binoculars to see anything.

What makes this doubly frustrating is the fact that the lazy teachers now spend the whole lesson sat on there ass behind the computer pushing buttons and talking to them selves. There is no interaction and no teacher support. And the older teachers don't know how to use it, a blessing in disguise.

Now it could be said that buying a TV and a computer was a bad choice,  bourn out of ignorance.

But the fact is a year before, I had brought with me to the school a portable projector and sound system connected to a lap top,  that allowed me to present my lessons within two or three minutes of entering the classroom ( I now have my own room so require no time for setting up)

The cost for projector, lap-top and amp with two mikes, twenty seven thousand Baht.

Cost for the schools TV and computer with no sound, thirty nine thousand Baht + .

The screen size I use is over two and a half meters, and I use a remote so that I can be any where in the class, encouraging and supporting students.

What can you say, "Amazing Thailand."

End of rant.
