'10. Silence...Silence is a criminal offense in Thailand'

oh yeah?...then those of us that have endured THE SILENT TREATMENT are entitled to prosecute at will...

'silent today are we?...you shall regret that me darling...' (a small, cringing brown woman with a Vincent Price figure towering menacingly...)

#5129324 Crackdown On Land Owned By Foreign Residents

Posted eddie61 on 2012-03-13 00:58:56

OMG

Time to move to Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, or Cambodia, who all encourage foreign devils to invest in land.

It reminds me of Switzerland in the 1960's when the German hordes were stealing our beautiful Alps.

Fortunately, that huge injection of capital made our poor little country, with fewer inhabitants than Bangkok, so rich that we can now buy it back at a discount.

That off course will never happen in Thailand, because the money from land sales will go straight to Switzerland.

The big difference is that we invested our windfall gains in a world class education system and lean, efficient bureaucracy, while Thailand invests it in Mercedes-Benz's, Swiss watches and smart London apartments.

Please keep up the good work..

#5111622 Thailand's Sex Workers Don't Want To Be 'Rescued'

Posted RaoulDuke on 2012-03-06 07:55:44

Its not like they really have any viable alternatives. As long as you have wealth inequality, you will have the sex trade, which is why it thrives in all corners of the world (just like wealth inequality).  As long as they can cut down on trafficking, slavery, and child prostitutes, then at least it is a step in the right direction.  No woman wants to work in the sex trade, but given the alternative, many do not have much of a choice. I just hope all of you who purchase their services remember this, and try and treat them like humans. They have had a very difficult life and if they do not harbor at least some sort of resentment for their clients, it means they are already truly dead inside.

Maybe the worst "advice" I've ever read on this forum.

#5100018 No Street Zip Codes Or Post Codes?

Posted PattayaParent on 2012-03-01 15:06:16

No need to ask around, I can read Thai.

The word for pig is different to the word for collection or cluster which was used to describe a 'village'. It's different in spelling AND pronunciation so cannot be confused.

What if there were no pig farms around but chicken farms, or rice farms or tobacco farms? How does that fit into your theory of 'pig houses' being the origin of the word 'village'

The OP is not shopping if he is getting paid for it, he is buying and selling goods, and exporting them. This is defined by the law as working, therefore his GF could shop him, however, it is mostly a ploy to get you to want her back and beg her to forgive you. Show her the door.

Hear hear.

Change your address and phone number.

Grow your hair and a beard; if you already have, shave them off. Wear glasses and walk with a limp, change you aftershave.......

Run buddy run

#5103241 Sick To Be Called "Farang"

I dont mind being called a farang since i am a white European. I mean, the average Thai who has probably never set foot outside of Thailand could'nt possibly tell the difference between a Swede and a Dane for instance. Much the same as people in Europe who has never left their countrys refer to all Asians as Chinese.

Heck I am from middle Europe and think there is no difference between a Swede and a Dane.....

Firstly, let me say that I am totally disillusioned with this country and have already booked my ticket to Cambodia where I hope to find a more 'stable' existence...

I have been living here (Koh Phangan) since 2004, happily married to a fine upstanding Thai woman for 5 years. My wife has never been involved with the sex industry and comes from a very decent family (there were 90 policemen at our wedding - but not KP police thank god). Living on KP one is constantly aware of the sex trade but dare I say it is nowhere near as depraved as the likes of Pattaya, BKK or even Phuket. I personally do not visit the bars (nor the party scene) but I meet many of the girls through my wife's (clothing) business. Not all of them have a sad story, though many do - mostly due to abusive, low-life Thai men who use them, abuse them and then move on to (younger) conquests often leaving them destitute man haters.

I am an ex South African, who left my country decades ago as I could not stand living in a racist culture (yes, I left because I hated the whites - not the black people.) but living here has turned me into a racist - I hate Asian men. I cannot describe the contempt I have for the males in this place without getting my post deleted. Corruption, ignorance, arrogance are the most common traits but each individual I meet just seems to have some other despicable quality - without exception. This is after 7 years - not a two week vacation.

I have a question: - Thai women are very strong and resilient creatures, why do they stand for this childish boorish behaviour from the men? I have deep admiration for them, including the bar girls who generally are good girls turned bad. If there was ever to be a revolution here (say a Night of the Long Knives, ala Kenya) then it should be that every woman stabs the pig of a man sleeping next to her. That is the only way things will improve.

Some may say that things are changing, after all the PM is a woman - well some of the women are just as despicable as the men (but very few) and you only have to look to the family of Ms Y to see there is definitely bad shit mixed in there.
I love this country and living on KP has been wonderful; the island has a bad rep but it is totally unfounded if you avoid Had Rin which maybe comes close to the aforementioned shiteholes - but only close. However, I can no longer endure the (openly) corrupt immigration, police and ignorant males here, or being treated like an intruder so I say farewell.

Another rant over.

News flash: Cambodia has Asian males as well.

Posted NastyNick on 2012-03-02 15:35:37

Whoever can't access it is not missing much. Thai reporter basically took 3 different articles about thai nuns, bar girls and pattaya and randomly pulled out paragraphs from each to create a hodgepodge piece that makes no sense, goes nowhere, with parts rephrased from Wikipedia entry on pattaya.

And the same can be said for the UK,the number of young single often teen mothers is baffling, but it's fine for them as they get a council flat and weekly cash handouts,it sadly gives many the attitude that they don't need to work,I wonder how things would be back home if the state never kept all these people.

Yeah, yeah, yeah - lets bring back the poorhouse and send the kids to work as chimney-sweeps - that do you ?

#5099526 Thai Tv Shows For Learning Thai

Posted klons on 2012-03-01 11:38:47

Just about all Thai TV shows are available online from sites such as:
http://www.doolakorntv.com/
but I don't know if they all stream outside of Thailand or not.
I am currently going through a soap drama called รักปาฏิหาริย์  which I like because they have
lots of characters and lots of dialogue.
