#5336975 Which Place In Thailand Holds The Best Memories For You?

Posted smokie36 on 2012-05-27 21:12:02

I was talking to an old friend from my backpacking days in India and Thailand this morning and the conversation turned to the many visits we made to Thong Nai Pan Noi.

Lazy days spent swimming and sunbathing, chatting up the girls, and almost every evening off to a party at one bar or another.

Dancing under the stars there on the sand epitomised for me what the full moon party experience should really be. Those really were great times on that beach.

The place has changed much in the last few years with the building of new 5 star hotels yet I still wander over there from time to time.

It has not lost all of its magic and neighbouring beaches carry on the tradition.

So there is probably my favourite place in Thailand....I am sure you have yours.

I would love to hear your stories...be it a spot where you met your partner....or had a life changing event....what ever the reason please post it so we can enjoy!!

Thanks. Posted Image

Filled in 'off course', if the woof-woofs let me.

Always enjoyed meeting some familiar and new faces of Thaivisa. Posted Image

I would appreciate it if some remembrance time can be given to some great people who passed away in the last few years. Thinking of people like Buckwheat, p1p, Blinky Bill, Dustoff ...

I couldn't see this link anywhere else ...
I thought the comment by the Thai minister about it being the local governors responsibility to control  / stop the burning and that they did
not know it was their job shows the staggering level of incompetence by all concerned.

This is old news and first reported in 2010 by the Bangkok Post. The high rate of problems associated with the fluke has been known since 1953. Unfortunately you can't educate those that don't wish to be educated. I've even seen a doctor from my local hospital buy the plaa raa.

Lots and lots of second hand 150s about as the owners want the 250 instead. Should be no problem finding a nearly new FI 150 for a good price.

So, a woman, who was a terrible punster, and couldn't make her husband laugh at any of her puns, decided to collect 10 of the funniest puns she could find. She read them off to him and was sure at least one would make him laugh.
Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.

I feel so sorry for that boy who was just doing his job. Even after being repeatedly humiliated, he's still bowing and bowing away to that a@@hole. After that, he went straight to do the scan on another passenger as if nothing had happened. Very professional. He should be promoted!

The usual answer, with which I agree whole-heartedly, is Vision Center in Rajvitthi Rd. It's near to the UN Irish Pub, same side but a little closer to Moon Muang.

#3921305 Treat Poor Thais Like Children

Posted Chunky1 on 2010-10-01 16:16:08

This has been my experience but you are welcome to state and argue a differentiating opinion. Essentially in Thai society rich Thais treat poor Thais in a very non-personal manner, therefore, if you treat a poor Thai person (your maid/driver/the noodle lady/employee) nicely they will take your kindness as weakness. In the West, we treat everyone as though they are deserving of respect regardless of social standing. In Thailand, note that everyone is not equal. You have social classes to heed. You can smile at them but do it vaguely while avoiding eye contact. If you have some extra fruit that you are eating, throw it in the garbage as opposed to spoiling them with it (unless it is close to a holiday in which case you can call it a bonus). Do not engage them on any personal level. Poorer Thais are easily confused and you should keep their tasks and the social order as simple as possible.

the truth is still out there.

Dr Kay is doing his best to try and fix the problem. He is not trying to hide anything. Threats from Rien of, how did he put it, "unguesting" him from Thailand when he has a Wife and kids really doesn't leave a foreigner here with much recourse. And Walen, using this thread to promote your own language school is disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Before 'Dr' Matt came to the LOS he was a bit-part actor in Australian soap operas. Google as the truth is out there.

Coming to Thailand 'Matt' became 'Dr Matt'. However:

***Here’s an earlier version of what you posted that was reported to the public for years. Due to heavy advertising, including on Ajarn, this is more than common knowledge:

Who are the CMU team? /
TEFL Certificate Course Chiang Mai University – About Us

Dr. Matthew John Kay (Matt)
International Programs Director

Nationality: Australian

Education: BA (Hons) Philosophy, Ph.D, University of Queensland, Australia.

Brief Bio:

***Below is the response I received from a reference librarian at the University of Queensland:

Hello T

Thank you for contacting Ask a Librarian.

I could not find a dissertation for Matthew John Kay but there is one for a Matthew Howell Kay in 2001.

Author Kay, Matthew Howell.
Title Geostatistical integration of conventional and downhole geophysical data in the metalliferous mine environment / by Matthew Howell Kay.

Google as the truth is out there.

CMU LI has claimed in their public notice that there is a police investigation into "a number of business practice activities which have occurred with International University Services...". CMU LI also advises people affected by this to contact their embassy or consulate.

From post 150 posted yesterday on this thread:

***Unfortunately, it looks like at least a few people were caught in the most recent shuffles and paid for classes within the past two weeks. They have not even been given 1 class! The Phuping Police station, just outside the main entrance of the University on Huay Kaew Rd., is taking reports. Please take the time to bring any paperwork that you have and make a report against whoever you paid, or think you paid. The officer in charge of this case is: Chalearmwut Sangriruang. If at all possible, please also bring a translator, or call the tourist police to send one for you.***

No opinions from me just the results of some Googling to give a little perspective.

My God, Loaded - you are bringing up some rumours that were started by years ago by another TEFL provided - yes, I know that Matt graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney in the early 80s and worked mainly as a theatre actor for about 10 years after that - he then started his undergrad at Southern Cross University at 33 - transferred to the University of Queesnsland to do his honor's year and his Ph.D which he finished in 2003 - how do I know all this - I have a good friend who knew him very well at SCU AND I actually sat in on one of his philosophy lectures at CMU (he seems to know a hel_l-of-a-lot about philosophy for a bit-part TV actor!!) and the Thai professor who was there mentioned a number of times that he and Matt had read papers at a university conference in Australia AND that one of this Thai prof's friends - an Aussie - was on Matt's disertation committee!!!!!!!! You really don't like Matt do you? In the interests of transparency would you like to let this forum know exactly what your beef with him is?!!! And, anyway WTF has it got to do with this topic - you muppet!

HONEST CABBIE
Honest cabbie rewarded

A kind-hearted amputee taxi driver has returned a purse left in his car with US$6,500 and Bt26,000 in it to a Burmese passenger, Police Radio FM 91 station executive Jaiton Sriwangpol said yesterday.

After giving a lift to customers in the Sukhumvit area and finding the purse in his taxi, Duan Sosarn, 34, whose right hand was amputated, gave the purse and cash to the radio station on Sunday evening to try to find the passenger, who the station then located as Myo Htut, from Burma.

Duan said although he had to work hard to pay school fees for his nine-year-old son, he would not have felt right if he had kept the cash forgotten by the customer. He wanted to use the money he earned and be a good example to his son.

National Police Chief Pol Gen Wichean Potephosree praised the cabbie for his action and said the police would present him with a shield of honour on October 13, National Police Day.
