I don't know if that statement is even true but even if it was at least the ones that do get in still need to study and pass the exams. If your children bought doctors certificates without having the requisite education and understanding of the profession they were going into I would do everything that was in my power to send them back to your farm to pick corn with dad.

My kids in the UK all passed their 'medical' exams fair and square, it was only their University places that were fixed.
Just because you didn't understand the UK system and fail to 'work it' to the advantage of your children, don't blame me.

In Thailand everyone passes university courses, if they have the cash, why pick on me or my kids?

Thought your kids were picking CORN. Posted Image

I often hear of the many places around the globe that people refer to as "paradise". Interestingly enough every one that I have had the pleasure (?) of visiting ... had (at the very least) mosquitoes. Ain't no place perfect and complaining is a human trait. As long as it doesn't affect my personal life let the complainers have at it.

I lived in Thailand for 8 years and left last year. I loved it there, had a great job and enjoyed my lifestyle very much but in the end decided that my sons education was more important than me having fun. I do have very big plans on returning in a few years time. by then I hope Thailand will be more stable all around. I was working in Silom when it kicked off with the red shirts and it was then that I started thinking of returning home.

since being back in the UK things have been good, it was very hard work at first, finding a good job, home and in a good area for schools and everything else that comes with it. My wife has settled in very well, she is enjoying our way of life but she does miss her job very much, it would be great to get her a job over here that is in line with what she was doing in Thailand. Sales for food and beverage companies, she traveled a lot with that job and I think she would like to do that here. but unfortunatly she has only found part time waitress possition at Thai restaurants.

My son is now 4 and his English is great, he is doing well in Nursery and looking forward to starting school in September. he also loves life over here, more freedom in many ways for him, nice playing fields and interesting places to walk to or around. bike riding and such.

My job is is good, I am looking forward to moving on and eventually running my own pub, so yeah, its not been bad over here.

I do miss my social life and miss my mates very much but the benefits of moving home have out-weighed all of that and we now look forward to holiday there.

I left for a reason, and if I were not married and had no children I would of happly stayed in Bangkok. so if you are going to leave make sure you have a good reason to as that will make it easier when you look back wondering why you did it.
Very good post. Good to hear you were able to get back into the swing of things once you returned home.

I fail to see how this is a problem.

Many bars do not let them in either, because we don't want to drink with them.

I said to a bargirl once, 'Why do you keep the blacks out?' and she said 'Because if Farang see African man, he not come in'.
I said 'Yep, you're right'.

All they do is try and sell me cocaine, and try to 'look after me' on Sukhumvit. It gets quite tiring.

Thailand IS a racist country.  I have experienced being refused entry into bars and also been denied being able to rent an apartment because I'm Black.  I've found that showing my US passport usually helps me get into bars as it seems most bars "will" let me in "if" I show them that I'm from America.  None of that really bothers me much as I feel comfortable knowing that these businesses aren't getting my hard-earned money.  What bothers me more are the racist Farang here.  The Farang are far more racist than any Thai could be.   I use to find that very surprising that White folks would travel to a country where the natives aren't White and be racist.

It's so bad that I can actually guarantee you that I'll have a serious problem with some idiot racist Farang any night I choose to go out.  If I don't immediately have a problem all I have to do is try another establishment or bar.  If I mingle with enough Farang and it's guaranteed.  It's nothing to do with my behavior as I'm one of the most reserved acting and self-controlled individuals you'll meet.  I recently went on holiday to Nong Khai and met several interesting Farang who wanted me to hang out and hit the bars with them.  I explained my reservation as I have so many problems with Farang in this country.  They told me not to worry as I'd be with them, but they also added that they thought I was just being paranoid as it couldn't be that bad.  I explained that they'd soon see as a problem was guaranteed to happen if we went to enough places.  Sure enough, a few hours later we are in a bar with a guy across the room yelling at me that "Niggers should die!" etc, etc, etc.  He went on for awhile.  Wasn't anything I had done and it never is as I know how to act appropriately and in this case I hadn't even spoken to this guy as he was on the other side of the room.  My new friends all apologized to me and had to admit that they just didn't know it was that bad here.  Good morning, it is!

I'm sure there are worse countries than Thailand, and there are a handful of countries I'd never want to visit, but Thai's are racist.  Thais are probably more racist amongst themselves though as many of you certainly understand what I'm talking about, and I won't go into explaining that as I have less issues with the Thais and more with the Farang here as their racism is much more blatant and hateful.  With Thais its usually just a case of them cowardly saying something rude in Thai or "not" getting my hard earned money which just leaves me with more money at the end of the day, but with the Farang it's usually aggressively confrontational. It'd be nice to be able to go out and relax or have fun without fear of getting into a fight.

#3928579 Are You Scared Of Thais ?

Actually I think the odds are probably (broad sweeping generalization alert) only a little worse than most 'bad' neighborhoods in your own country.   It's certainly not a guarantee that any action you make here will result in a vendetta (whether immediate or drawn out) type situation that will involve stabbing weapons or firearms or large groups of people injuring you/ending your life in a burning tire type deal.

Most of the murders are Thai on Thai crime so you probably don't have much to worry about if you mostly mind your own business and limit your outbursts to the 'gang' working at Au Bon Pain and not the one driving around the local 'ob bor tor' governor.  Some may argue that the murder rate of foreigners is going up, but so is the foreign population.   Some may feel that locals have a better read on 'place in hierarchy' for foreigners than they used to, and if you're in the same "class" as the local lowlifes, then you're probably not going to be given a pass.    Same goes for any situation where you rub someone who is higher than you the wrong way, they know that there's a 94% chance that your most powerful connection is knowing some of the local internet forum moderators.

I think much of the disinformation, or rather dated information comes from the older generation of expats who were here when Thailand was around #3 or #4 in the world for a few years running for firearms (or was it murder in general) murder rate.   Now we're much much lower.   Top 20 at best.  :)

Hope you're right Heng.

I would never, ever dream of seriously annoying a Thai because the possible consequencies aren't worth it.

Mind you, if I ever saw ANYONE seriously attacking one of my dogs, I'd be out there (weaponless) going for their throat!

Anyway, as I was approaching them of the Africans called me a Nazi.

But it was quite tense.

Then he said that I was not allowed on this street as it belonged to them.
All kinds of expletives were aimed in my direction as I walked off fearing a racist beating.
Luckily for me a Taxi driver appeared in his cab and had some sort of altercation with them which resulted in him getting out and shouting at them, and they were shouting at him.

The taxi driver was on his phone calling for reinforcements no doubt as I exited with no more attention directed at me.

I'm sure you were seriously scared --- I would have been too. But it's not smart to let these roaches run you off --- that increases the threat to their next victims.

I'm a old white fart --- but I spent years in Bimini, Jamaica, and Haiti and have jammed with hundreds of black and latino guys,  some of them good friends.  Friends or not, generally they all agreed that the asswipes who pull this crap are bullies plain and simple. Like all bullies, they're motivated by inferiority and/or insecurity.   Like all bullies, they must not be appeased.

I am definitely not suggesting you duke it out. Don't escalate the threats. But do keep your fear hidden and try to remember these are retarded racists exactly like the subhumans in Deliverance. Be careful, but do not succumb to cowardice.  Courage is being the only person who knows you're afraid.

#3922863 Is There An Exodus Of People More Than Businesses?

Posted FarangBuddha on 2010-10-02 10:38:44

Leaving aside the whole issue of what's a person with a million baht in net-worth doing living in Thailand (or any foreign country) to begin with, I'm sure there are many in similar situations. We see it in Pattaya as well. However, they are certainly not going to have much of a warm welcome back in Blighty if they plan to return there. The economy pretty much sucks in most of Europe (ex-Germany and the Scandinavian countries), with 25-40 percent cuts in public sector employment rolls and reductions in "benefits" to boot.

Sounds like to me that many folks didn't do their planning too well or partied too hardy during their abbreviated stays in the LOS. Maybe best to head on over to Rooland as I read that blokes fresh out of high-school can make AU$ 100k per year working in the mining industry. [Tip to get there: Go to Philippines for 6 mos. and find a Filipina nursing graduate to marry and then apply for skilled migration visa to Aus. and piggy-back in as her husband.]

#3927473 Brit Poses As A Millionaire To Steal Back His Son From The Thai Lady He Once...

A vile sickening feeling in the pit of your stomach, tears, anger and helplessness; these are just some of the emotions that consumes a parent whose child(ren) have been taken by an ex.  Even with all the court orders and the law on your side it seems that the police are unable to help because they are too busy trying to interpret it the order than enforce it.  Then you find out that the laws willingness to act (or not act) is often based upon your gender and appearance; especially if your ex looks like "Jabba the Hut/Slut" and you are perceived as someone who has had life handed to them on a silver platter.

If you're lucky, the police will finally get around to doing their job and find your child(ren); but you will not be allowed to pick them up from where your ex has been hiding them; nor will the police give you the address (which is required by law). You will be made to sit in a police station and watch your child(ren) being marched in like they are criminals.

Falling to your knees you grab your child(ren) and hug them as they are crying and asking you "Why didn't you come get us?" Between the hugs and kisses a murderous fury starts to build toward your ex who had put the children through hel_l just to hurt you.  Out of the corner of your eye you notice your ex standing there with a smirk on their face and gloating because the police tells you that they will not arrest them for kidnapping.   What your ex doesn't know that had they not been in a police station you would have wiped that obnoxious smirk off their face.....permanently.

For those people who question Sean Felton's dedication and love, it is obvious you have never known the pain of  having a child  or children hidden from you by an ex and you have not experienced what it is like to have no one help you; and I hope that you never do.

Sean Felton never gave up and he is the perfect example of the quote "Desperation can Lead to Inspiration" and Jobe is a very lucky boy to be loved so much.

Those of you that have never witnessed any of us decent white folk dealing drugs, I suggest a few nights stay in Pattaya.

A couple of questions for you racists::if for example you had never visited Thailand or not ever associated with Thai people, would you still have the same attitudes towards the Thais living or working in farangland as you share regarding the blacks and Indians over here? Or are Thais exempt from your list of inferior races because it suits you in able to live and do your deeds in Thailand?

If you were denied access to a bar or hotel purely because you are a farang, taking into consideration that you are a resident or visiting, would you still believe that it is the owners right to treat you in an inferior way from the Thai people,  using the excuse that they find your presents undesirable?

Baht 500 sounds reasonable enough to me, considering loss of business until the gal can get a new power strip, and that a half decent one costs baht 250 or more anyway.

  Half decent one, the one he ran over was a 69 baht tesco job, what makes you think that they will replace it with a half decent one  .

I'm wondering where the power plug was before all this started, perhaps laying on the driveway, waiting to be run over?

#3926236 Who Has The Most Reds And The Lowest Rep Count?

Posted Jingthing on 2010-10-04 00:28:34

Sadly, I am not YET the red love mark champion. However, I am well on my way, headed like a balloon of bliss from 70ish green to 30ish green in one week! OK, so it may take a year to reach the prized holy grail of 1000 red love marks.  Green is the color of evil envy. Who would want cheap, easy green marks when they are so plentiful and common? Red signifies the color of the sun, a symbol of energy, radiating its vitalizing life-force into human beings, the RARE color, the valuable and prized only TWO a day color. I do realize some of you misguided, misinformed souls have been manipulated by the false myth that red is a bad thing. You think it is negative. If so, I can help you too. It is very unhealthy to carry around negativity with you. It is also very nasty and mean hearted to throw around reds as an insult to other worthy human beings. Let me be the willing, enthusiastic RECEPTACLE of all your toxic  negativity. You have two a day. Don't waste them by holding on to them (that's a sin against all that is good), don't be a nasty rude bugger and "punish" others (in the long run, you are only punishing yourself).

cherry_bomb_pepper.jpg

Do the loving thing, do the healthy thing, gift your love reds to the one who is happy to receive them in the spirit of pure gratitude and graciousness.  Thanks again to all my red gifting friends, both real and ironic. 1000 red marks, here we come.
