#5337220 Jomtien - Sukhumvit Bypass Photos.

I've been keeping an eye on this also.  Seems they are making progress!  I do HATE the junctions...kinda like playing chicken.  No fun.....they need lights or stop signs.  And of course police who care and would patrol them.

#5333996 British Teacher In A Coma After Brutal Assault In Pattaya

Very sad for this man.  Let's hope he recovers soon and the culprits are caught.

As for Pattaya, I'd walk around Beach Road at night any time when compared to parts of Rome, Los Angeles, London, Buenos Aires, Paris or any other major city in the world.  It ain't the best, but it's FAR from the worst.

#5333880 Beware Of Accidents With Motorbikes

Posted Daffy D on 2012-05-26 17:38:24

The rules here are the same as in the Middle East for expats : never stop at the scene of an accident & if you are involved Get Away !The thinking is that if you had not come to their country then the accident would not have happened & of course as a foreigner you are always in the wrong.

This always amuses me.

If we had not come to their country they would still be living in the desert and riding around on camels

most lawyers in pattaya will take any case just to get hold of your money

You could probably simplify that and say "most people in Pattaya will say or do anything to get hold of your money".

My internet was down for a few days and a mate (who was 3/4 to the wind) rang me from Aus on Friday, saying that Stoner was talking about pulling out because Honda would not give him a one year contract only a two year, something to do with Marquez and his elevation to the top class next year. Anyway apart from that seming to be upside down, how he could get it so wrong is beyond me, I'll be having a go at him. Anyway I think Stoner would not make a serious effort at V8 Supercars, they are a highly professional series now and he would have to prove himself more than the few laps he did at Norwell over Christmas in Whincup's car then Lowndes came out and smoked his time. He might get a co-driver seat in an endurance race to start with. There is precedent though with both Gregg Hansford and Wayne Gardener making reasonable efforts, though Gardener was not popular with other drivers who thought he was too aggro. Bayliss was talking about doing it and had a similar trial as Stoner but nothing came of it. By the way Norwell is a short circuit just outside of Brisbane I have been to many track days there, only humiliated myself once by missing the apex of the dogleg on the straight and ended up doing 140k in the ditch before I dropped it in the mud at about 40. It is a good learner track.

For me yesterday Lorenzo was supreme and Rossi a mystery why he cant ride like that in the dry. The only other thing to say is that Stoner gifted them psychologically by saying he's not enjoying it anymore, that is worth gold to blokes like Rossi and Lorenzo in particular. The timing of his statement was awful.

By the way Soihok that is Feem Willyrot, good luck to him. Australia is looking pretty thin on the ground in all world championships now, Arthur Sissis will want to change his name I think.

Compared to just 2 years ago, BS is rising from the ground in a big way. There's a new and beautiful village opp. the beach and lots more coming. There are a few foreign restaurants and pubs (Chez Jerome, Abbey Road, etc.). If I had a car, I would live there.

Two correct replies and both succint - Not a lot and you need a car.
If it had everything and you did not need a car it would be another Pattaya.
And there aint room for 2 of them on the same bit of coast with the current economic climate.

What I can gather about construction work on these masses of housing / condo developments are that they are purely speculative investments ???

I have a good Thai friend selling units at one particular one in BS ( new acrnonym on T.V.) and she told me that every month the price of the "tiny" 25 square metre apartments goes up 20,000 baht. Forever in the hope that more and more people will keep buying into cardboard models and pie in the sky computer generated cartoons.
People who feel they have missed the boat then get told that they can buy a unit that has already been "sold' previously .

SOOOO if you bought in at 750,000 baht per unit 6 months ago you can now sell it on at the new going rate of 870,000. This goes on and for years and slowly but surely the builders take for ever to actually build the place. Making profits on sales / re-sales and commission.....sometimes abandoning the project totally when interest dries up or actually make a half arsed finish to the building before moving onto their next project...........Now before you shoot me in flames...I am the ultimate cycnic. B)
And I give not a hoot if you have already bought into one of these schemes. I do not care what other people do with their money or how they invest it.

If any one has the time to go round all the Sois on Pratamnak Hill and have a real close look round the jungle clad lanes - You will see the many "incomplete" building foundations poking up from the ground.

Jomtien and Na Jomtien also have their share of these as well. I won't mention names it will only start a "Bun fight in a PARK".;)

BS already has its own concrete jungle clad abandonded project 100 yards back from the beach if you care to venture there.....:jap:

Last time I went to Donnington was to watch the 2009 MotoGP and it was wet and freezing (July).

My wife didn't speak to me for ages (actually that ain't a bad thing sometimes).

I will be watching the races on the tv, sat here in the Tropics,,,,far more user friendly than a cold north England.

This is a great article on the whole Rossi Ducati saga.
Well worth the read if your an avid fan, and explains a lot of the challenges he faces.
Personally I think once he comes off contract end of season, he'll either retire, of maybe get a ride on a factory Yamaha.
Honda wouldn't have him back I think.

http://www.motomatte...smosedici_.html

That was a good read, it will be interesting to see what will happen.
I wrote to Ducatti and told them to get the mafia to steal this Honda and copy it but they never replyed.:D

Great qualifying. Looks as if everyone was in evreyones way in Motogp, really impressed with Cal and if he keeps it up he will surely win a full factory contract next year with Spies contract up at the end of this year. I can't work out whats going on with Spies, well couldn't until the last minutes when he got a good time in.
Nasty fall for Colin Edwards wasn't it? Slammed bang onto the shoulder.....ouch.

Moto2 - great to see Scott Redding right up there and I'm anticipating a podium. If only he can make it stick.

Not seen any WSBK qualifying, only one race is being shown here in Singapore, for some reason.

Will be flicking channels later, much to delight of my wife.

pedestrianise it at festival times....

Makes sense to me. It should be combined with banning all parking along Beach Rd at all times, including the vehicle rental places.

Personally I would also ban all private cars and large buses inside 3rd Rd at all times, or charge them 2000B to enter the area.
As I would expect from a Cheap Charlie non car owner. What should those car owners living inside your exclusion zone do?
Hey lets Ban Baht Busses from the area instead then loads of room for us car drivers.

Free Tip No.1
Have big signs before Dolphin Roundabout (say at Sukhumvit near North Pattaya Rd and also all along North Pattaya Rd and Naklua Rd) warning motorists of part closure on Beach Rd and therefore to use alternate routes.

As for police being unhappy, does anyone care?
