#5334088 Wrong Policies Could Lead To National Crisis: Thai Editorial

The actual World Bank summary didn't state "populist schemes" or anything like it - it listed 4 points - http://www.worldbank...ngs-on-thailand - Its point about investment in recovery was very positive and that it should boost confidence. Another which was "inflation " of 3.5% and another was rice exports would slow as the result of high rice prices.

No where was it evident that the World Bank referred to "populist schemes" spending should be curtailed, but yet The Nation chose to word its editorial as such and distort the World Bank statement.

Man, you are missing the anti-Yingluck narrative on TV...facts don't matter....the important thing is to rail against everything Shinawatra....if it's a feel good piece say, about a blind lady recovering her sight, you have write on TV that Yingluck, ordered to by Thaksin, blinded her by throwing acid in her face...it's a sort of nasty cult religion....

#5307924 Chalerm Promises Protection For Actress Harassed By Red-Shirts

Posted marquess on 2012-05-17 13:09:47

Visualise the following if you can, during the recent heat wave it was around 39c upstairs in my house and 35c downstairs the AC was broken, sleeping even with the aid of a ceiling fan was nearly impossible. Now imagine if you are an old man with throat cancer in a room with 40 other people packed like a Sardine, in stifling heat, hellish conditions-- then you die because of a lack of good medical care. How can anyone who calls themselves a human being not sympathise with that man and his family. The actress has the right to free speech but I think she needs to be a be more sensitive and try and imagine if she were the old man. We will all have to die I hope none of use have to die like that.

"...To the red shirts, Thaksin and Yingluck have already caved in. The fighting against the establishment over the past years, which claimed many lives among them, came to naught. Thaksin simply used them as his stepladder to power..."

This of course was obvious from day one.
Now Thaksin has opened Pandora's little Red Box
and is finding them hard to put back in it.
This too was totally predictable from day one.

It may be obvious to you now but for a long time the line of the usual suspects was that the red shirts had no meaningful agenda and were simply to a lesser or greater degree unwitting agents of Thaksin's ambition. Now even the most reactionary factions don't claim this nonsense to be true. Can we expect an admission of error from the motley band of reactionaries? Don't hold your breath.

Incidentally I also find it ironic that the PAD admirers have adopted the Pandora's box image in respect of Thaksin and the reds.I pointed this out and used the image years ago.Thaksin is not an admirable person and his significance is his catalytic effect. The box has been opened (by Thaksin) and Thai politics has changed forever., and not in a way that unelected elites, the corrupt generals, monopolist businesses and the frightened and myopic middle class are going to find very comfortable

#5279552 UK Experts Praise Thai Authorities' Flood Response; Urge More Co-Ordinati...

Posted geriatrickid on 2012-05-07 09:46:11

The role of the CMOs and  the efforts of the provincial teams was never covered by the  press in Thailand. These men and women worked around the clock, often going for days with no sleep and limited food. The people doing the work came from the public health sector. These  were the nurses, support staff  and physicians that receive a fraction of the  pay and benefits at the private hospitals. Yet, on their shoulders lay the safety of the nation. Vaccinations, wound cleanings, relocation of critical care patients and the suppression of deadly diarrhea in the child population made up their days, all of it done without any acknowledgment from the angry critics in TVF.

After a flood of this size and length, thousands could have been expected to die as typhoid, pulmonary infections and diarrhea took hold. In some areas, it was a close call, but the MoH held the line. It is wonderful that the Ministry and all of its associated personnel get some credit for a job well done.

Abhisit is a bigger criminal than Thaksin ever was.  Who cares what he says?  He is nothing more than a smug elitist liar.

And you base your accusations on what facts? Do you understand the meaning of "criminal"? It is someone who has been convicted of committing a crime. Thaksin is a criminal and a fugitive one as well as he does not have the courage to face his sentence. Abhisit is neither charged with nor convicted of any crime.
Were you blabbering in your beeer?
Abhisit is not charged yet.
"Criminal"?
Go check out the 2 year prison sentence from the Assets Scrutinty Commitee. Thaksin had no right of appeal.
No international arrest warrant ever issued for Thaksin.
You rightwingers are unbelievable. Is that why you're here?

Thaksin DID have a right of appeal.  He chose not to.

#5193441 Learning English Language In Thailand: Hype Or Necessity?

Thais must learn english.

I have been saying this for the past 10 years and they are still dragging there feet on this issue.

The old ' thais don't need to speak english as there native language is thai which makes them unique ' doesn't hold water.
This is a load of rubbish as all nationalities need to learn english even if it's just basic english, as long as you can communicate effectively.

The world over uses english as the #1 international language through every day business dealings and general communication.

How can school leavers ever apply or even be considered for a position in another country if he or she cannot speak english ?

Tourism revenue accounts for some 80% of thai income .... so with this revenue being such a large chunk of the countries income ... wouldn't it be a priority to ensure the population and especially those working in the tourism industry can speak english ?

How can the country move forward when the younger generation cannot understand any english ?

If Thailand doe's not make english mandatory for school student and include it in the curriculum it will be left behind.

It will continue to become know for it's lack of motivation, planning and development for the young and it will continue to be 50 years behind the times.

Cut and copy from above:  "How can school leavers ever apply or even be considered for a position in another country if he or she cannot speak english ?"

Just last month my Thai son and his wife had some old school friends come to the house. There was a discussion about ASEAN 2015.

One lady (always seems to get thinks backwards and always cops a lot of flak from the others in this group) asked whether people from other ASEAN countries can apply for jobs in Thailand (post 2015). Answer Yes. Her next response was 'that's not fair to Thai people'.

Next comment in the discussion 'So if that's not fair to Thais then Thais should not allowed to apply for jobs in other ASEAN countries", The lady mentioned then responds 'but Thai people should be allowed to try'.

Next comment: 'How could you work in Singapore, you can't speak any English'.  Her response: 'But the Singapore company should make all their staff learn Thai language'. Response from another person 'So your suggesting that all Singapore companies should make their employees learn Thai just in case suddenly there is a Thai employee in the Singapore office?'   Silence......... then, 'But Singapore people like to come to Thailand for shopping'.

And more...
