#5318758 Thai Economy Rebounds Strongly From Flood Crisis

if the numbers are true then its somewhat impressive that there was a rebound. however most of that is rice income which is unaffected once flood waters recede. the stats above say gdp growth between Q1 2010 and Q1 2012 was only 0.2%. so the flood knocked out ALL other growth even in unaffected regions?

this is an optimistic sounding article but the stats show a different story. and so does the baht exchange rate.

Al Jazerra also did a very positive prime time news story a day ago with the same good news statistics and a live interview with the PM in English.  It seems the only doomsayers about the Thai economy are the anti Red posters from Thai Visa.  The rest should show up momentarily.

Do the editors feel that it is more important to note the traffic congestion caused by fleeing guests and employees than to cite the number of injuries and/or deaths? Was the manager suffering from smoke inhalation the only injury? That would be great, but doubtful.

#5280167 Alert: North Thailand Warned Of Heavy Rain And Flash Flooding

This would not have happened 20 years or so ago but massive deforestation has increased the run off so that water (more of it) just gets to lower ground more quickly.

I hope he gets it. A powerful orator, a tireless worker and a upholder of democracy. Oh yeah, and it will really piss off the opposition/ frothers.

And it will help fuc_k up the country too. I'm sure you and the other red neck fascist wannabes will be delighted with that.

Another nail in his mother's coffin...

Good of you to bring this up, some 300 yellow shirt followers of Prem went to a little old ladies house, in the middle of nowwhere, to pressure her about her son.
That's pretty heavy intimidation, is it not ??

A 90 year old assailed by 300 people in her house.

You seem to be approving of it, the way you post.

#5258865 Geological Faults In The West And North Could Rock Bangkok, Quake Expert Warns

Posted kennalder on 2012-04-29 10:05:46

Mineral Resources Department chief Nitat Poovatanakul insisted that Phuket would not sink. And Tri said it would take a massive quake, of 20 magnitude for this to happen, which was almost wholly unlikely.
Once again demonstrating just how mathematically challenged this population is. The largest quake ever recorded was the Chile quake of 1960 at 9.5. If you look at the energy released by an earthquake in terms of the number of nuclear bombs then according to the USSG website.
6=.79 nuclear bombs
7=25 nuclear bombs
8=790 nuclear bombs

9=25,000 nuclear bombs

each integer on the scale means about 32 times as much energy released.

I don't know how to do the calculations but I'm guessing that a quake of 20 under Phuket would not sink the island, but would probably put it into an orbit somewhere between Mars and Uranus.

Yeah, I'd love to see how they'd react if farang started reinterpreting the meanings of Thai words to fit their own image needs.  On the subject of how Thais use English, I get such a kick out of their audacity to reinterpret the actual sounds of English letters based on their own obscure calculations.  A perfect example is the high-end hair salon Chalachol, pronounced Cholakon (also Phaholyothin Rd).  So according to their logic, the consonant "L", using general English pronunciation rules with the other letters, has TWO possible sounds?!  You have to give them credit: they really, really do have b*lls.

Maybe we can also talk about all the words the english language borrowed from other language and gave them a different meaning from the original one ...

Regarding the article, we have here an other great piece of reporting from The Nation. A friend of us is so ashamed to work for the Nation that she told her friends and family she works as a pole dancer in a gogo  ...
