Tot Phone Co. Finally Gives Phone Bill Credit For Outage During Flood

During the flood in late 2011 one of my two TOT phone lines/numbers didn't work for at least several weeks (maybe a month) due to flood waters in my moobaan....we checked both lines each time were would come back to the house for a few hours to check on flood damage...one line was always dead, but the other working fine...I guess the line that continued to work stayed about the water at the moobaan junction box point

When we got back into our western Bangkok home in early Dec 11 the one phone line still didn't work...I expect the junction boxes in the moobaan were still water logged from being under water for around a month...we called this phone line problem into TOT and it got fixed in about two days. After the flood water went down and we started getting mail again which included utility bills such as our TOT bills we went into a nearby TOT Service Center at our Lotus in late Dec or early Jan (I think it was late Dec) and applied for a credit due to phone line outage...we applied for a month's worth for the one phone line.   Only took a few minutes for the TOT customer service rep to fill out the one page credit form and make a copy of the Thai wife's Thai ID card to attached to it.   For you folks with TOT lines you know your monthly bill is B107/month assuming you don't make any outbound calls.

When we got our Jan and Feb bills no credit has been given and we checked with the service center again about the credit status and they said it just takes time "if approved."   At that time, the Thai wife and I just forgot about...figured the credit would never come through...not worth expending any more time on it since it was only a B107 credit.   But lo and behold when we got our two bills today for our two TOT phone lines each bill had a B107 credit on it....TOT had apparently given us credit not only for the one phone line which we applied for the credit but also gave us a B107 credit on both phone lines...that is, including the one phone line/separate phone number that continued to work throughout the flooding.

Amazing Thailand...I actually got a credit from a semi-governmental Thai company--the TOT phone company!!   But it did take 4 to 5 months for the credit to complete it processing/be given.   I expect TOT may have had to get the Prime Minister to approve the credit. Where To Buy Gfci Outlets

2012-04-28 15:10:46

After looking in several HomePro's, Global House, HomeMart, etc., in/around Bangkok over several months I haven't been able to find any GFCI outlets like shown below.   I can find RCBO's to plug into your main circuit box and have installed 2 Square D RCBOs for my two water heaters, but I can't find any GFCI outlets.

Anyone know where a person can buy such GFCI outlets in/around Bangkok regardless of brand (i.e., you have bought or seen them at store XYZ).   Thanks.

When Engineers Go To Hell

2012-03-09 10:05:29

An engineer dies and  reports to the Pearly Gates.

Saint Peter checks his dossier and, not seeing his name there, accidentally sends him to Hell.

It doesn't take long before the engineer becomes rather dissatisfied with the  level of comfort in Hell.

He soon begins to design and build improvements. Shortly thereafter, Hell has air conditioning, flush toilets and escalators. Needless to say, the  engineer is a pretty popular guy.

One day, God calls Satan and says with a sneer: "So, how are things in  Hell?"

Satan replies: "Hey, things are going great. We've got air conditioning, flush toilets, and escalators. And there's no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next."

"What!" God exclaims: "You've got an engineer? That's a  mistake - he should never have been sent to Hell. send him to me."

"Not a chance," Satan replies: "I like having an engineer on  the staff, and I'm keeping him!"

God insists: "Send him back or I'll sue."

Satan laughs uproariously and answers: "Yeah, right. And where are you  going to get a lawyer?"

Spell Chiecking On The New Thaivisa Forum Editor

2012-01-31 19:36:27

Before the ThaiVisa upgrade I had no problems in using the forum editor/word processor to write posts but after the upgrade the editor is slow, backspacing and forward spacing is slow and really jumpie, and when doing spell check the corrected word does not completely remove & replace the incorrectly spelled word...many times it kinda inserts the correctly spelled word in the middle of the incorrectly spelled word ending up with a longer incorrectly spelled word.   This may be caused by the new ThaiVisa editor being slower--and least on my computer...it was now slow before the upgrade.

I use Win7/IE9 running on a Dual Core CPU and have a 20Mb internet connection,  and my spell checker is lastest version of "ieSpell" which worked just fine with ThaiVisa editor before the upgrade.   Also, I use to have a spell check icon in the upper right hand corner of the ThaiVisa editor which I could start the spell check from but it's gone on the new editor; now I need to do the right click thing and start ieSpell that way which ain't not big thing...just wish I could get the spell check function working properly again with the new ThaiVisa editor/word processor...and the editor wasn't slow.

The New 2012 Ford -- Buy American

2012-01-11 21:43:13

Subject: The New 2012 Ford - BUY AMERICAN

Renault and Ford have joined forces to create the perfect small car for women.

Mixing the Renault 'Clio' and the Ford 'Taurus' they have designed the 'Clitaurus'. It comes in pink, and the average male car thief won't be able to find it - let alone turn it on - even if someone tells him where it is and how to do it.

Rumor has it though, that it leaks transmission fluid once a month, and can be a real bitch to start in the morning! Some have reported that on cold winter mornings, when you really need it, you can't get it to turn over.

New models are initially fun to own, but very costly to maintain, and horribly expensive to get rid of. Used models may initially appear to have curb appeal and a low price, but eventually have an increased appetite for fuel, and the curb weight typically increases with age.

Manufacturers are baffled as to how the size of the trunk increases, but say that the paint may just make it LOOK bigger.

This model is not expected to reach collector status. Most owners find it is best to lease one, and replace it each year.
