In Topic: Canine Gene Testing Prior To Breeding.

2012-03-10 09:55:16

Hi,
Genetic testing is one aspect of screening before breeding but there are a lot of other factors that are of the same importance. Such as temperament and breed standard adherence. There will always be an element of chance in any breeding program. I looked into the lists provided and it would end up very expensive to do all these tests. Would make purebred dogs cost so much that it probably promote "mutt" breeding instead. Good luck. I just face a limited number of studs available for my bitch. May have to import soem frozen semen at the moment of plan a trip abroad when time comes for her.

Glad to see you have gound a "big" whippet. My friend has just taken his sister. I picked her up in Pattaya and brought her to Bangkok: never made a sound and slept on the back seat with my whippet. Very well behaved....for the moment!
1 more male left. for a forever special home.

In Topic: Feline Questions - Bladder Problem For "Stray " Cat

2012-02-05 09:36:30

Hi, Incontinence, the way you are describing the puddles he leaves behind. Could be due to a spine injury near the base of the tail. It can affect the nerves that control the bladder sphyncter or the anus too.
Any problems with his tail? or scar seen near the back end? Any sign of limping? Sometimes the cat almost gets run over by a car but only the tail goes under the tyre and the cat pulls the tail away and damages the nerve roots at the spine. So he does not know that he is dripping urine: no pain.
Can diagnose with some Xays of the pelvic area but it wo;t fix the problem.
When he leave a puddle use a white tissue to check if there is any blood in the urine. If so: there could also be an infection (cystitis).
Just a few thaughts. Hard to diagnose without seeing the cat.

In Topic: Cocky Losing Feathers ?

Sometimes feather plucking can also be diet related. TRy supplementing his diet with some chicken bones (watch so they don;t go off). In nature these birds will eat insects that they come across while picking at bark on trees. They are not a meat eater but sometimes lack protein and will resort to their feathers. You can also use dog chewy sticks (the ones with chicken wraps).
Eating fruit they also come across grubs and some people offer them meal worms as a treat.
if it is the beginning of PFBDS, then it is not good news....they go bald ovetime: check on the feet and beak: they should look slghlty covered in powder: if they are very shiny .The bird has probaly PFBDS.
