In Topic: British Citizenship

2012-01-30 08:12:06

My husband received his British Citizenship by descent just a year ago. He qualified by his mother who was born in England in 1905. Because it was his mother I am sure it was simpler as there was no question of parentage. The rules of citizenship by descent have changed in the last 18 months and has made it easier for some to now claim citizenship.

All he had to supply as I recall was his mothers birth certificate (which we ordered and received from the UK and his birth certificate from the US. Of course there was a lot of paperwork to fill out as well as the cost of filing.

At first it seemed like they were requesting a lot more information until I read more closely and discovered that it was a multiple choice depending upon the circumstances. We did not have to supply any of the information about relatives other than his mother as that is who he was qualifed to claim citizenship through.

I will say that the Embassy in Bangkok was very helpful when we went in for the interview and they looked over all our paperwork and made sure that it was adequate. It took less than 4 weeks for approval and then he applied for his British Passport and it arrived in about 3 weeks.

Hopefully this information is somewhat helpfull.

In Topic: Eva Good Prices For Next Year

I tried to book a flight to US for May and kept getting flights unavailable, contact EVA. I called Bangkok and they told me they would only book 3 months ahead because of price changes. I ask about the "book up to 365 days in advance" that the website quotes and she just ignored the question, and told me to check after the new year.

In Topic: Money Tt From Uk - Thailand Ayahuthya Bank

When I was banking with Ayudhya (not sure if this is the same bank you are referring to) I would telephone my bank in New Zealand at 7:00am requesting a telegraphic transfer and by 9:30am I would receive a call from head office in Bangkok asking if I would accept the exchange rate. It is probably the best service we have received in Thailand. The rest of their banking procedures left a lot to be desired though and eventually we changed banks.

In Topic: Contract Written In English

I know this is slightly off topic but Sunbelt Asia mentioned a will and having the Court appointing an executor. I have already had my will translated into Thai and will have it certified at MFA. What bothers me is having a court appoint an executor. I have already nominated and executor for my will and would not like the court to make that decision after I am dead. Is it mandatory if you have already stated in your will who is to be the executor?

Sorry it this is off topic and it can be moved or deleted in required.
