^^ You must be joking- The London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames is one of the poshest boroughs in da hood- as someone who hails from Sutton and Cheam, I feel qualified to comment.

Meanwhile on topic- I came here in 2001 with my other half, and we're still here as jobbing teachers.

Experiences mixing in Thai circles as farang-farang couples

They find us a bit odd, but they put up with us very nicely.

How the man finds people reacting to him when they find out he isn't with a Thai partner
Sadly the girls don't necessarily want to jump into bed with me :(

Any issues that you have experienced that you can directly apportion to your farang/farang status
Any positives that you have experienced that you can directly apportion to your farang/farang status

The farang card works for all card carrying members.

Thanks for the reply Culicine.. I'm a Brit.  To me it just seems that the USQ course looks to have some exciting content.  The British uni.s need to market their s*** better tbh.. I've been reading around this topic on different sites for a while, and for me as a 10 year, unqualified teacher, prospects aren't looking so great right now.Posted Image

honestly, how difficult can it be?  My five year old has mastered it. why cant you?

Because it a totally foreign concept to most westerners. How many westerners can squat like asians do every day? Not many. Then while squatting and maintaining your balance, you have to squeeze out a mud turtle. Hell, most westerners have problems evacuating the mud turtle while sitting down, much less while squatting and maintaining their balance. That's having to concentrate on three things at one time and in this day and age where most people have the attention span of a gnat, that's asking a lot. So, at this point the novice squat toilet user who has just pinched a loaf, still squatting and not falling in the bowl, now has to balance a water bowl while pouring water down his crack while flicking dingleberries with his left had. Now that's four things he has to do at one time. Squat, balance, pour and flick all at the same time. Surely here is where the poor farang looses it, slips, falls in the bowl, then posts a thread on TV asking just how to use a squat toilet. Posted Image

Add to the above 'doing it all on a moving train' and you have a sure recipe for disaster (as can be witnessed from time to time).Posted Image

I see my role as a teacher primarily as giving them the tools they need to learn, facilitator, coach and mentor.

It usually takes several tens of hours before even some of the Thai students figure out how to take responsibility for their own learning, and some never do.

I would also never trust a doctor that couldn't feel free to answer "I don't know, I'll have to look that up" or even "looks like I was wrong".

(Sorry to bold your post), but I'm not sure Thailand is ready for someone of your calibre/ ability.

Speaking as a foreign teacher, it doesn't ever worry me to have to check a fact or spelling, or even have them pointed out by students on the odd occasion: (As I say to them- everyone makes mistakes and they help us to learn.  Luckily not being teachers they don't know the difference between a mistake and an error) :D   I think it is definitely detrimental to Thai education that this attitude isn't more common amongst my Thai colleagues.
