Wonder deals at domestic fair

May 8, 2012 by Paphada Apimonton
Filed under News, Thailand

BANGKOK, 8 May 2012: Tourism Authority of Thailand partners with tourism associations to sell discounted packages to South Thailand that should boost bookings during the low season.  All the packages are geared to the domestic market and go on sale at the Wonderful Thailand, Wonderful World 2012 fair, 10 to 13 May, at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. Two other smaller shows on diving and golfing are included in the fair.
TAT deputy governor for domestic marketing, Thawatchai Arunyik, said that TAT has partnered with several associations to promote tourism in the south under the concept of “Travel to the South with Tour Operators” (Tiew Tai Gab Tour).

Destinations featured change by the month. They are:
Satun, Krabi and Phuket provinces in June;
Patthalung and Songkhla provinces, July;
Chumphon and Ranong provinces, August;
Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces, September.

TAT hopes the packages will illustrate that southern destinations are safe, following car bomb incidents in Songkhla and a series of earthquake tremours in Phuket, that spooked domestic travellers in late March.
Partners are: Association of Domestic Travel; Association of Thai Tour Operators; Thai Tourism Promotion Association and Ecotourism and Adventure Association.

Wonderful Thailand, Wonderful World 2012 has two specialised events on golf and diving on the sidelines.
Thailand Dive Expo will showcase products and services related to diving such as diving courses, diving trips and underwater photography equipment. Thailand Golf Expo will feature over 40 golf courses and golf resorts and 70% discounts on golf equipment.

According to NCC Exhibition Organiser said the four-day event should attract 250,000 consumers and should generate spending of Bt500 million, mainly on travel products, but the two side shows also sell equipment.
Last year, all three events attracted 190,000 visitors and generated Bt400 million in sales.

Ac Dehumidifier Mode - Any Good? Any Savings?

2012-04-19 10:29:30

This is the first time I've spent April here in Thailand since becoming a homeowner.  It's HOT!  I find we are running the AC a lot more than we usually do.  In our former small condo, running the AC most of the day was no biggie.  In a large house, it's a biggie!

I've noticed a mode on the AC called Dehumidifier.  I've done some research on it and know it reduces the humidity, thus making it feel cooler even though it's not cooling.  But my question is, how much energy do you really save?  I can't seem to find any stats on this.

I've been testing it the past few days and it helps a fair amount.  Especially if you do this in conjunction with a fan blowing on you.  What I was previously doing was to run the AC for 30 minutes or so, then turn it off for 45-60 minutes.  Worked OK, but a pain in terms of turning on and off and on and off....

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!!!!

Minimum Price Of Houses In Kl May Double For Foreigners

The Star reported that Kuala Lumpur’s government may rise the minimum floor prices of houses foreigners are allowed to buy to RM 1 million (US$ 158,469) from the current price of RM 500,000 (US$163,095), in an effort to control the rise in property prices.

Sources said the decision was “in the pipeline” and the implementation would be made by the economic planning unit (EPU) under the Prime Minister’s Department currently headed by Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

I'm guessing one of the numbers above is wrong???  Should be about 326,000 RM?

Great Concert At Hard Rock - Hugo

2012-03-27 09:49:37

Thanks to Raro for organizing this last night.  I've never heard of Hugo before, but he was fantastic...very unique style.  The cover band before him was really good also.  As usual, the Hard Rock has some really good cover bands....playing great rock and roll.

The place was packed...and Raro got us a front row table.  Thanks!!!  Obviously Hugo's well known to the Thai crowd as everybody was singing along to his more popular songs.  Great fun.

Good to see Leo and crew from Leo's Blues Bar.  And great to see Bert at Tropical Bert's along with a few Thaivisa members.  The kebab sandwich was great!

A few years ago we saw Taxi at the Hard Rock also.  It's a great venue for those who have not been before.  Thought I would post this for those looking for a good entertainment alternative.
