I'd stay away from Ali Baba on Le Thanh Ton...the place was worthless in 2006...go up the street to the Lotteria and get a burger and chips instead...

nice rendang at the malaysian restaurant on Mac Dinh Chi in district 1 across the street from the City View apartments...

Alibaba hasn't been located on Le Thanh Ton for several years.  That location is now an A&EM Hotel.  Their new location is on Mac Thi Boi.  Was OK before, but it's not anymore.

I tried going to Saigon Indian, but the staff wouldn't even come over to seat my wife and I, so we left.  Will have to give it another shot.

I prefer Tandoor.  The owner is always there and will make special orders that aren't on the menu if you ask him.  Always busy too with Indian customers.

Where is Tandoor located?    Thanks.

It's on Hai Ba Trung across from the Park Hyatt (next door to the KFC).

"Ah, guys....It's not Saigon for quite a while now...it's Ho Chi Minh City. Not that I care, but you won't win any prizes with the locals by still calling it Saigon."

Not sure where you get your information, but many of the locals do still call it Saigon.

"If I travel to Saigon...

Is a taxi the only way to travel from the airport to my hotel in the middle of the city?

I'd rather take a bus... as taxis may just try to cheat me and/or take me to another hotel."

The 152 bus will take you to D1 (Pham Ngu Lao) for around 50,000VND.

I like the modern conveniences of the train system, subway, expressways that BKK has to offer.  Also much better options for outbound flights.  The people in Saigon overall are quite friendly.  Housing can be quite expensive if your in one of the expat enclaves.  Plenty of good places to eat and have a few drinks in Saigon, but it seems like it's always under construction and the road/streets suck.  I hate that it takes 4.5 hours to drive 200km to a decent beach.  It's getting better, but it will take some time.  I still prefer BKK over Saigon.
