#5191907 Britain to introduce legislation to monitor internet use

The big question is WHY are governments doing this? I can only think of two possibilities, one is to prevent Islamic terrorism, or more worryingly to break up resistance to mass immigration. The other is concerning cyber-crime, hacking etc. Whatever, either by happenstance or design there are good reasons why governments are doing this, though I don't approve for myself Posted Image and this was a small part of my reason for being here.
To prevent Islamic terrorism? Or more worryingly to break up resistance to mass immigration? Oh dear. Could you just remind me, what was the latest abhorrent terrorist attack in Europe? Could it be in Scandinavia? By a nutter who held similar views to the ones you are expressing? Not an Islamist? But a white supremacist? Who clearly held similar views to you?
The old Etonian fools who are now running the UK are fast becoming a laughing stock, even amongst the Tory Party! They are rapidly becoming a figure of fun, making up stupid policies on the hoof in a desperate attempt to appease their masters in the USA. And relying on people like you on internet forums around the world to try and give credibility to these laughable attempts to scare the populace into giving up their hard fought rights to free speech. I believe the politically correct expression is, 'Useful idiot'. How does it feel?

#3895130 Living In London Afer Living In Bangkok

I don't mean to sound awful, but I think this question resonates best with two groups, group (1) - retirees that have the finances / pensions etc from a career in the West and are looking for the quiet life, not very materialistic in their needs etc, and group (2) - Less wealthy young males, who don't have the best of things in the UK anyway, limited job prospects here or there and living here is genuinely better at that level.

For sucessfull and wealthy expats it is not all that here anymore. There are limted education choices for kids - assuming that you wish your kids to receive the same quality of (private) education that you benefited from. Home ownership and the rule of law is better in the UK. A super car here costs upwards of 10 million baht vs 1 - 2 mil in the UK. But groups 1 & 2 above aren't in to the cars anyway as group 1 has grown out of them and group 2 could never have had one anyway, so this point has no relevance for most. Neither group 1 or 2 is likley to have child dependants - again, a big factor in the OP's question in terms of releveance.

Property, we can't own a big house here (freehold) and a condo that a 30 - 40 year high flyer woudl live in in the West is expensive here, circa 25 - 30 ++ mil cash. No mortgages, so cash only. Again, groups 1 & 2 above, can in group 1 buy a good condo (with a lifetimes savings) or rent, and group 2 can rent from THB 20 to 50k and even at the lower end it beats a council flat in Peckham..

So what's missing? the wealthy younger set with a caree in th eprofessions is almost non exsitent here - unlike Hong Kong or SIngapore where wealthy younger expats flourish, and groups 1 & 2 are almost non existent.

Now you may have your answer.

Very perceptive post.I'm afraid that 99% of the time those who describe the UK as a hel_l hole or similar are second tier types - financially, socially, educationally (council house in Peckham types is a rather unkind way to describe them, but where the cap fits....).I suppose we are stuck here in Thailand with these slack jawed resentful proles - whose needs are satisfied by beer, soccer on UBC and similarly down market Thai "wives".How do we get rid of these parasites? I'm hoping for a further deterioration in the Sterling/baht exchange rate so they are forced to move off somewhere else.Think of it - Pattaya for example free of these tattoo ugly drunks.Bliss!

But I'm sure if you're a Thai hater, you will find fault in this and many other things that Thais do.

You're right there.

It seems that Thai people can't  do any right,  hoardes of Farangs travel thousands of miles to come  here, meet a Thai woman, marry a Thai women, live in Thailand, leave their home countries, leave their well paying jobs, leave their families, wife and kids to settle in Thailand, then complain about the Visa system, complain about the fact they cannot own a house, complain about Thai drivers who are driving in Thailand and are so inferior to them, in fact, they think Farangs can do everything better than Thai people, yet they left their Farang Family, their Farang Job, their Farang Kids, their Farang House and Farang roads ....etc etc etc Posted Image.

Then they blame Thailand.

And Farangs think Farangs are smart.   Posted Image

#3888002 Why Do Westerners Choose Thailand Over The Phillipines?

Posted bonobo on 2010-09-17 08:00:52

I am in Manila now, getting ready to return to Thailand this afternoon.

Here was my yesterday:

Got up in my nice-ish hotel in Makati, one of the few clean places in Manila.

Joined the traffic to go to a factory about 25 km away.

Watch two young street kids make a break through traffic after evidently stealing something form the SM Mall.

Watched a cop chase them down and shoot one in the back right in front of me.

Got a little further before sitting in traffic for 45 minutes without moving.

Made it to the factory after almost three hours.

Had pork fat and tofu for lunch.  Tried not to make too many expressions of distaste.

Waited for customs to release my shipment (6 days after promised)

Finally left the factory at 9:00 PM.

As the sit-down  restaurants were closed went into a KFC.  Had to break through a cordon of pawing street kids and walked past a heavily armed guard at teh door.  Had a very lousy Zinger sandwich.

Made to to my hotel at 11:30.  Was still hungry so I went to Greenbelt, a very upscale mall with open restaurants.  Had a very good Spanish meal, but as I was leaving, was propositioned by a rather road-weary prostitute while still in the mall.

Went back to my room and watched television--one thing far better than in Thaiand.

Despite the TV and the Spanish food, the Philippines does not hold a candle to Thailand, in my humble opinion.

Whats The Strangest Thing You've Ever Seen Here? It must be the army killing Red-shirts; because it is NOT possible at all, as the army are instructed NOT to shoot using REAL bullets.
