To all readers, yes so the girl was messing around, what else is new? We are in Thailand and it happens with most girls (and guys). No need to stab them or get upset. Just walk away and try the next one. If farangs kill every Thai that cheats on them there will be very few Thais left for dating farangs.
So don't go bashing the girl and remember most farangs also cheat on their Thai partner.

The Yellow movement and its wider support comes from within the educated, professional, socially and politically active Thai middle class.
The Red Movement was seen by someone as a chance to achieve his own aims - money poured in, the ranks of its supporters swelled and the election result achieved - Now that the political party it brought into power is perceived as walking away from promises it made to its support base and the aims and objectives of the Red movement a reaction is occurring - Dissent.
That dissent, the political discourse within the Red movement is coming from the educated, professional, socially and politically active Thai middle class who support that movement.
It is the educated, professional, socially and politically active Thai middle class who will determine the direction this country takes. They increasingly control the political and social discourse regardless of their income or the car they drive/don't drive.

What people are interested in is how many Thais are able to afford what we in America call a middle class lifestyle (I don't know what you call that in on your island). Achievement of a middle class lifestyle is seen as the primary goal for most people and what we try to orientate our society towards producing.
......
How many Thais are able to afford a middle class lifestyle (or whatever your island calls it)? I don't think anyone really cares how many middle class Thais exist under the British definition of the word, as it's largely a useless term
The definition of middle class I have given is not British or one from any island you seem to believe belongs to me - It is the international definition of Middle Class.
The United States has a class of people who precisely fit the international definition of middle class, Thailand has a class of people that fit this international class of people.
In Thailand, the US, Europe any nation you wish to choose this Middle Class of people exist - Regardless of their income they are educated, socially and politically active, vociferous and work in the professions that give them access to shape our societies.
The US creed of meritocracy, that any man can become anything is challenged by the existence of this Middle Class, because it is by enlarge the Middle Class (and their children) who get the opportunities - Accepting this truth does not sit well with the idea from Log Cabin to Oval Office.
You can admire wealth, you can place it on a pedestal and tell us is is the only useful measure of social value if you wish - but the people shaping the political and social discourse in the US are the American Middle Class. Not people defined by money (it is not their money that shapes the debate) it is their education, social and political activism, vociferous advocating and access to the levers of society through the jobs they do.
The only argument I hear from America's wealthy is why have they not got more of that wealth. And as we both know the demographic and the social debate has changed. It's not dollars that are chaining that debate its aspirations and values.

I haven't had a puff since I was 14, a good few decades ago... I don't like pot, I've seen lots of guys ruin their lives over it by becoming barely functioning idiots... living in filthy share houses, eating badly, having a hard time holding down a job, and just being 'wasters'... I don't buy into the 'legalise it' argument because of those things, but suggesting someone should face prison time or massive fines for pot use is ridiculous...
Fools here suggesting he faces 10 years for a joint, in a country where undoubtedly most of the same guys are buying sex from economic slaves, drinking and driving, living here when not entitled to by manipulating the Visa system, disrespecting everyone they meet...
In a country where murder goes unpunished and often rewarded, you let the 'lawmakers' and police tell you what is right and wrong??? Use your own brain for once!!!
Hope the subject of the OP got out of it OK... $600 is a fair amount to pay for a bit of a smoke...
To the rest of the hang em high brigade, "let he who is without sin..."

I think you are reading what you want to read from other posters. My interpretation of the thread is that the majority of the posters think the guy is an idiot for doing something in Thailand which has been globally recognised as a no-no.
This is the laws of the country and not individual recommends. If the guy decides to ignore the multitude of warnings that have been issued regarding drug abuse in this country, and is arrogant enough to use a well known falang area to purchase illegal substance, then I agree with the majority that he deserves what he gets.
The dangers of drug use v alcohol don't enter into this, it is all about the laws of the country. The guy is in his early 20's; let him put this down to experience and enjoy the rest of his life. Just hope he does a bit of research in the next country he visits. Malaysia and Singapore spring to mind................

I kind of see your point here , but can also see why some(..them.. ) may infer a sense of elitism from your implications.
ps I have a degree and a Post Office savings account
I was employed by a PR company based in Spain for over 35 years, most of my assignments where within South East Asia. I was on legal contracts to work in South East Asia and in Thailand.
Have now fully retired on a generous pension and a healthy bank account, can live with peace of mind in Thailand 100% legal with no concerns or the need to look over my shoulder to see who is watching me. I can walk into Immigration once a year for my visa extension and all done within 20 minutes. I am by no means rich, but do believe I did everything the right way and for this reason I feel quite proud of myself, so I’m blowing my own trumpet here.
If on my travels and I happen to meet other ex-pats that have the need to run over the borders every 5 minutes, work in bars paying the police beer money so as to convince them they’re not really there, struggling to keep they’re Thai girl friends from the underclass’s of Thai society content and happy, hoping to find any job, doing anything to support themselves here, than I have to ask myself, do I truly want to become involved and socialise with them? And the answer is no. Why? Because I don`t need to.
Call it elitism, snobbery or what you like, but the worst that can happen is that those sorts wont like me. So what, I certainly would not lose any sleep over that, plus I know there are plenty more living in similar situations as myself in Thailand and will think the same way. So I am being straight and up front with you regarding how it really is. Some may respect that and some may not, either way it makes no difference to me.
