Anybody here know how to suspend service on a post-paid/monthly DTAC account -- yet keep the number for use when I return?
I'll be travelling for 6-9 months, and want to make sure the number linked to my phone doesn't die. Is there an official suspension of service that DTAC (or anyone else) provides? I had thought to switch my number to a new pre-paid company/price plan, since "topping up" validity is pretty straight forward on a pre-paid SIM and I could do so for a year.
But I guess this is overkill of there's a similar way to extend/protect my post-paid/monthly service. Any ideas?

What Time Is The Vientiane / Nong Khai Border Open?
2010-09-24 13:02:04
I got my "car passport" book and plan to drive to Laos at the Vientiane / Nong Khai border crossing next week, and wonder what times the border is open. Also, how long should I plan on to cross in a personal vehicle - considering all the forms that need to be filled out at & Lao visa to be applied for?
Where Do Isaan-Dwellers Go For Non-O Visas?

Anybody know if the Thai Embassy in Vientiane, Laos is giving out Non-O visas? Anybody tried this lately? The embassy website gives instructions for applying for Tourist visas and Non-B's, but has no mention of Non-O's at all on their site.
Where do Isaan dwellers generally go for a Non-O visa in the region?

What'S The Cheapest Place To Get A 90-Day Non-O For Us North Thailanders? Laos?
2010-09-11 22:39:29
I'm on a 1-year Non-O visa volunteering with an NGO in the Northern region. Or at least I thought I was. Turns out the visa expired a few days ago. #{:content:}amp;@*
So now I'm looking for a place to head to to apply for a new 90-day Non-immigrant O visa. And I'm thinking that there's got to be a better way than the requisite trip to Penang, which is what the local expat crowd seems to do if they're needing a non-O visa.
So, what about Vientiane, Laos? I was there once a few years back. Decent town. Laid back atmosphere. Good people. But is the Thai Embassy still giving out Non-O visas? The embassy website mentions Tourist visas and Non-B's, but has no mention of Non-O's at all on their site. ThaiVisa doesn't have much mention of successful Non-O attempts in Laos. And although I've found a few blogs via Google of folks mentioning they went to Vientiane specifically for a non-O, none of the stories are very recent (i.e in the past year).
Anybody here tried for a Non-O in Laos in the past year or so?
Is it worth going and attempting if not many have tried this before?

Any Way To Remove Scratches From The Inside Of A Laminated Windshield?
2010-07-02 11:14:08
I scratched the inside of my Toyota's laminated windshield taking old registration and insurance stickers off. At first I tried peeling them off. Then I used petrol/gasoline to dissolve the glue, but the stupid adhesive wouldn't come off. So then I tried a plastic scraper. Still wasn't working.
This is when the genius in me came out and realized we have a great sponge with a course side for scrubbing pots and plans.
I swear that I never knew the inside of windshields we're laminated. But I found out quickly after a few large circular scrubs over the area where the old adhesive was. The good news is that the combo of dish soap and a pot scrubber works wonders. The down side is that I have nasty hazy scratches in all up the side of my windshield.
Anybody here know of a way to get scratches like this out short of replacing the glass itself?
