Some embassies issue a letter of authenticity for their new passports, if asked. The Uk embassy does not. You must keep the receipt. When I last did mine, about 8 years ago, the receipt was a faded bit of paper very similar to a 7-11 receipt and my immigration office, then at Nong Khai, wanted to see it. Moving the extension-to-stay stamp over was a matter of filling in a simple form, and it was free too!

Jiu-jitsu, thanks very much, works like a charm.
I used the Software Restriction Policy to disallow ipmgui.exe and avnotify.exe and haven't had a pop-up since. Thanks again.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CanonBJ\IJPrinter\CNMWINDOWS\Canon MP280 series Printer\LanguageModules
In this directory there are lots of directories with names like "0409" "041E". These are the language codes for the languages supported by your Canon printer. You can delete all the directories in there EXCEPT those two. 0409 is the English language and 041E is the Thai language. The names of the 3 .dll files in each directory is the same, so the calling program doesn't have to be different per language. My Canon printer came up in Thai so I copied the three .dll files from directory 0409, the English language one, into 041E diectory, the Thai language one. I had already renamed the existing ones in 041E just in case it didn't work. But it did. My printer still thinks it's calling the Thai language routines, but it's actually calling the English language ones.

Lopburi3 is quite right. The British Embassy do not provide a letter asking immigration to transfer the various stamps. When I renewed my British passport, some 8 years ago, I was asked for the receipt that the embassy sent with the passport. It only looks like a scrap of paper similar to a 7-11 receipt, but that's what immigration wanted to see.
